HOLDEN LANE PRIMARY NEWS Working Together, Learning for LifeFriday 22nd March 2019 Miss Clare Thomas—Headteacher Tel: 01782 234890 Email: [email protected] HOLDEN LANE VISIT THE HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT On Monday, the Head Boy and Head Girl, the Deputy Head Boy and Deputy Head Girl, along with the School Council representatives from Year 2 to Year 6, visited London by invitation of Ruth Smeeth MP. The children travelled to London by train, they then experienced the London Underground and finally arrived to meet Ruth Smeeth MP at the Houses of Parliament. The children were given a guided tour of the Palace of Westminster. They found out about the political life of the United Kingdom and learnt about its incredible history and traditions. The children were invited into the House of Commons and the House of Lords, they visited the MembersLobby and the great Westminster Hall. They finished the tour with a questions and answers session with Ruth and debated topics including Brexit, the decisions of the Prime Minister and current issues in Stoke on Trent. The children then took in some of the London sites. They visited Trafalgar Square, watched the Changing of the Guard at Horse GuardsParade and visited Buckingham Palace. Their busy day came to an end with a cruise on the River Thames. This enabled them to see and learn about the London bridges, the Tower of London, the Shard, the Tate Gallery, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, Westminster Abbey and Saint Pauls Cathedral, to name a few! The children were an absolute credit to the school throughout the day and made us all very, very proud! A huge thank you to Miss Pellington, Mrs Pellington and Mrs Reece for their organisation and support throughout the visit. Your support is greatly appreciated. Thank you also to Ruth Smeeth MP for inviting us to meet her in her amazing place of work. WELL DONE TO EVERYONE WHO TOOK PART ~ WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU ALL! VOLUNTEERS IN SCHOOL We would like to thank all of the parents and carers who are currently volunteering in our school. Additional adults joining us in school and getting involved in supporting the children is greatly encouraged and makes a huge difference. If you would like to volunteer in school, please see Mrs Reece for more details. YEAR 1 CLASS ASSEMBLY Families of our Year 1 class are warmly invited to join us for their class assembly on Wednesday 27th March at 9.10am. We hope that you will come along to share their special assembly to celebrate the importance of friendship . We look forward to seeing you and thank you for your continued support. SAFETY ON THE SCHOOL GROUNDS ~ BIKES AND SCOOTERS Please could we remind all parents and families that in the interest of Health and Safety, it is our policy that bicycles and scooters are not ridden on the school grounds at the start and end of the school day. We would be very grateful if you would ask your child to push their bike or scooter until they have left the school grounds. Our priority is that everyone who visits our school is kept safe at all times. Thank you for your co-operation and support.

HOLDEN LANE VISIT THE HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT

On Monday, the Head Boy and Head Girl, the Deputy Head Boy and Deputy Head Girl, along with the School Council representatives from Year 2 to Year 6, visited London by invitation of Ruth Smeeth MP.

PARENT CONSULTATION EVENING

Parent Consultation Evening will take place on Wednesday 3rd April from 3.30pm to 7pm. This is an opportunity for you to come into school to discuss your child’s progress and

development areas. We will be operating the usual appointment system to enable parents

time with their child’s teachers.

We hope that all parents will attend.

Letters were sent out on Tuesday.

FAMILIES LUNCH INVITATION!

The next “Stay for Lunch” days will take place on:

Tuesday 9th April for Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.

Thursday 11th April for Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6.

We hope that you will come along and join us for lunch.

Letters have been sent out this week.

JOIN OUR FAMILY FORUM!

We continue to look for enthusiastic parents and carers to join our group. We very much value the

importance of parent partnership and would like to develop a group of dedicated parents with excellent ideas for developing Holden Lane.

The next Family Forum meeting will take place on Wednesday 8th May at 2.15pm.

Please come along, everyone is welcome to work together to make our school the best it can be!

Please sign in at the main office and join us for cake, coffee and a chat!

LOCAL COMMUNITY DROP-IN

The next Local Community Drop-in session will take place on Wednesday 3rd April from 1pm to 5pm in the school Meeting Room with representatives

from a range of services ~ all available to listen to your thoughts and concerns or

to offer advice and guidance.

Please come along and join us for coffee and biscuits.

We look forward to seeing you.

NON– UNIFORM CHARITY FUNDRAISER

We are inviting children to come to school in non-uniform on Friday 12th April.

We would request that each child makes a small donation towards our school charity. Our children have chosen to support Animal Lifeline. We hope

that every child will get involved. Thank you for helping others through our school

charity fundraising.

YEAR 2 CLASS ASSEMBLY

Families of our Year 2 class are warmly invited to join us for their class assembly on

Wednesday 10th April at 9.10am.

We hope that you will come along to share their special assembly to celebrate the coming of Spring and the celebration of Easter.
