Some things to know about teen dating: One in three adolescents in the US is a victim of physical, sexual, emotional or verbal abuse from a dating partner. Girls and young women between the ages of 16 and 24 experience the highest rate of intimate partner violence --
almost triple the national average. Nearly 1.5 million high school students nationwide experience physical abuse from a dating
partner in a single year.
Signs your teen may be in an abusive relationship His/her partner gets very jealous They are constantly texting or calling their partner They have to report everywhere they go and who they are with They have unexplainable bruises, scratches or other injuries Your teen gives up things they cherished Their demeanor changes (aggressive, withdrawn, acting out) They don’t tell you much about their relationship; even when you ask questions. Sudden changes in clothes or make-up Avoid friends Responds immediately to text messages or answers their phone even when they are busy

JUNIOR HONOR CHOIR Three students from Holgate attended South Dakota’s Junior Honor
Choir in Rapid City this year. Students auditioned with a CD in Oc-
tober. They have been rehearsing their music since they found out
they were selected for the group in November. Students from Sim-
mons Middle and Central High School travelled with the Holgate
students (Mallory Beckler, Aubrey Clark, and Dillon Swanson) to
the choir event that ended with a concert at Old Dakota Middle
School on Saturday, January 25, 2014. The two choirs are made up
of almost 200 students from all over the state of South Dakota. Typi-
cally around 500 students audition, so making it into the choir is an
accomplishment for those students.
