The audience at the 2013 Houghton Lake Community Schools Christmas Band Concert were welcomed by the high school band with its memorized rendition of “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” Dec. 19. The concert, which also featured the Jazz Band, the
sixth grade band and the seventh and eighth grade combined band, was directed by David Kolmodin. Providing narration was the Rev. Bryan Thompson.

MOST WONDERFUL
BELLS TRIOIn a special feature, members of the seventh and eighth grade com-bined band (from left to right) Sydney Gandolfi, Henry Wallison and Austin Schultz perform “Fe-liz Navidad.” Schultz came on stage first and began playing, then urged Wallison and then Gandolfi to join him. (CHP)
Saxophone player Calvin Fancher and the rest of the Jazz Band performed “Frosty the Snowman,” ac-companied by Mr. David Kolmodin on trumpet. The
band also performed “Rudolph the Red-nosed Rein-deer” and “White Christmas.” (CHP)
JAZZING UP FROSTY
First graders from Roscommon Elementary sing for the residents at Hilltop Manor Health Care Center, Roscommon, Dec. 17. Mrs. Tammy Chmielewski di-rected the children, who were from Mrs. Shannon House’s and Mrs. Sue Mires’ classes, in the singing of “Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer,” “O, Christmas
Tree” and other holiday songs. They also passed out handmade Christmas cards to residents. Their other performances were at the Roscommon Community Center and The Brook of Roscommon.

HOLIDAY VISIT
GIRL SCOUTS ‘OPEN HEARTS’ AT CHRISTMASWith funds from cookie sale ef-forts, members of the Junior Girl Scout Troop 925 of Houghton Lake “opened their hearts” and spon-sored a family this Christmas. On Dec. 6, the girls troop leader Lori Sajdak and Pam Kauffman took the girls shopping to purchase clothes and toys for three children. According to the leader, the girls “had fun picking out the items: and then later wrapped the gifts for the children. “It was awesome to see how giving the girls were and [how it] made them so happy,” Sajdak said. Pictured with some of the gifts they purchased and wrapped are (left to right) Madi-son Roll, Lucy Haggart, Rachel Sajdak and Jade Kauffman. Not pictured are Macy Bisballe, Ale-sia Rochon, Elaina Britvec, Alexis Landon and Sydney Affholder. (Courtesy photo)
