HOLIDAYS 2018
CONNECTIONS HOLIDAYS 2018 3GRANDCENTRALTERMINAL .COM2
EMMA LEE PUERTO Pep Head Usher Position, Metro-North Railroad
How long have you worked here? I’ve been with Metro-North for one year.
What’s your favorite part about working at Grand Central? I love seeing how many people travel here from all over the world. The Terminal is such a beautiful place, and I love what I do because of it.
What’s the most popular question people ask you? “Where’s the Apple Store?”
What’s the strangest question someone has asked you? “In which direction do the trains go?”
Do you have a favorite movie that was filmed here? Definitely The Commuter, starring Liam Neeson!
Where do you like to grab a bite in the Terminal? Doughnut Plant
What’s your favorite Grand Central tip? If you’re meeting someone at Grand Central, tell them to meet you at the clock. It’s the easiest way to find someone when the Terminal gets busy. I also tell a lot of people that Grand Central Terminal and Grand Central Station are not the same place — there tends to be a lot of confusion around that.
What’s the most touching thing you’ve seen happen at Grand Central? Seeing children walk through the Terminal with their parents is an amazing thing. I love watching their eyes light up!
DIONELLE REYES Assistant Store Manager, M•A•C Cosmetics
How long have you worked here? I’ve been working in the makeup industry for nine years and with M•A•C for over five.
How many makeup consultations do you have each day? Usually one every hour! Women come in for lessons on how to apply certain products or request a makeover for a special event.
What’s your favorite item in the store? I’m obsessed with our new lipstick, Powder KISS. The colors have a matte finish, but they feel super hydrating and cool on your lips! I also love the M•A•C Matte Fix+ setting spray, which I use before applying my makeup to keep my face looking fresh all day.
What do you wish people knew about M•A•C’s Grand Central location? We offer 10-minute complimentary makeup demos, which are great for customers who want to try new products or get a quick makeover from our talented makeup artists.
What do you love most about working at Grand Central? I get to meet so many people here, from New York commuters to tourists from all over the world.
JAMES HARRINGTON Deputy Director — Grand Central Terminal Special Projects, Metro-North Railroad
How long have you worked with the MTA? I’ve been with the MTA since 2008 and with Metro-North for nine years.
What Capital Improvements are you currently overseeing at Grand Central? My office is managing East Side Access’ (ESA) construction activities.
What is the East Side Access Project, and why is it important? ESA is a $10.2 billion project that involves building a new Long Island Rail Road service—an 8-track terminal and pedestrian concourse below Grand Central. This project will create an easier and shorter commute for over 160,000 people that travel from Long Island and Queens to the East Side of Manhattan each day.
What do you love most about working here? As an architect with a deep interest in railroad history, I’m truly honored to work at Grand Central. It’s a remarkable facility and arguably one of the most magnificent public spaces in the world.
Where do you like to eat/drink in the Terminal? Grand Central Oyster Bar & Restaurant, hands down. The New England Clam Chowder is my favorite.
Whether you’re grabbing a cocktail, shopping, or taking a train, you’ll discover it’s the people that make Grand Central so special.
THE PEOPLE of GRAND CENTRAL
PETER BRAUN Executive Administrator, The Glass Haus, Holiday Fair Vendor
What kinds of products do you sell? The Glass Haus brings a group of exceptional artists together to keep the tradition of glass artistry alive. We create glass pieces that make beautiful gifts and artwork, including stained glass, wall hangings, glass animals, and more.
How many years have you participated in Grand Central’s Holiday Fair? This is our 14th year; time flies! We are so grateful to our loyal customers and honored that Grand Central has given us this opportunity.
What do you love most about the Holiday Fair? I love making people smile and seeing shoppers completely immersed in the experience of the Fair. It’s enchanting to be in Vanderbilt Hall under the warm glow of century-old chandeliers, smelling coffee, warm pastries, and chocolates, and allowing the history of this place to wash over you.
How is this Fair different from others you’ve participated in? There’s a sense of community here, which helps us provide the best customer service to the thousands of shoppers that pass through.
Where do you like to eat/drink at Grand Central? I go to Zaro’s Bakery every morning, and I like to have lunch at either Café Spice, Eata Pita, or La Chula. It’s also really convenient having Agern and Great Northern Food Hall so close to the Fair!
