Holidays & New Year Opening Times
During the Christmas period, the office will be open as normal. However, we will be allowing our staff to have a well earned break
between the 23rd December and the 1st January (inc).
Our usual on call service will continue to run throughout the holiday period.
As the holidays drawer closer
Time flies… no sooner do we have Happy
New Year, Easter, EID, Halloween, Bonfire
Night and here we are again at the close of
the year.
We continue to be at the forefront of
Education Recruitment in Yorkshire, fulfilling
1000’s of requirements on a Short/Long term
& Permanent basis and supporting Primary,
Secondary, SEND & FE settings throughout
the Region.
We are really proud to be the first Employment
Business to achieve “Child Friendly
Ambassador” status with the local authority.
As a business, referrals from school leaders
and candidates continues to be our best
source of new business opportunities and
candidates. Your valued feedback is amazing
and it’s good to know that you acknowledge
we go that extra mile to get you the right team
member or ideal role.
The “Collective Six”, our multi service offering,
is delivering real results and economies of
scale to schools. Please speak to your key
account contact for further details.
All that remains is to thank our amazing
teaching and support staff for your hard work
and our loyal clients for your business

Christmas 2017 Newsletter
Thank you to all our new
and current partners
2017 brought new partnerships with
Child Friendly Leeds, Candlelighters,
Feefo and the Health & Wellbeing
Service (read more on page 2). Our
2016 partnerships with Temple Newsam
Learning Partnership Trust, Active
Schools Leeds, Ahead Partnership and
Leeds City Council, go from strength to
strength and will continue to do so over
2018.
Thank you to all of you for your
ongoing support.
Charity & Community Support
2017 has been very ’eventful’ for the Academic Appointments family.
We have been invited to help out at many charity and community events
including school sports days, fairs and charity collections!
We take our corporate social responsibility extremely seriously so al-
ways do whatever we can to help raise a few quid here and there.
In the year 2017 we raised a total of £966.15 for charity, financed
two local food bank collections, donated numerous raffle prizes
and supported at a number of school events including sports
day, school fairs and open evenings.
Charity Partnership
September was the start of our Charity Partnership with
Candlelighters and we are delighted to say we have
already raised a whopping £267 in just three months!
Child friendly leeds ambassador
In November we announced we had been successful in
our application to become Ambassadors for Child Friendly
Leeds! Our pledge is to uphold the '12 Wishes' made by
children and young people of Leeds with a particular focus
on 'Wish Number 6; Children and young people are treated
fairly and respected'.
We are extremely delighted to be part of the aim to make
Leeds a better place for everyone growing up and
particularly to address the issues and challenges that can prevent children and young
people realising their potential.
Academic Appointments take our corporate social responsibility seriously so it made
perfect sense to become an Ambassador and do whatever we can to support our
community.
Farewell for Now…
This month we say a sad but happy farewell to our
Primary Coordinator - Melissa, as she begins her
maternity leave but don’t panic, she’ll be back!
Melissa, we wish you the very best with your new
baby and cannot wait to meet he/she when they get
here!
Colleague Council
In August we launched the newest addition to our events
list. Colleague Council invites our candidates to have
their say! Each term the topic changes and attendees
are sent an agenda and copy of the minutes. So far we
have discussed ‘Our online presence’ and ‘Customer
Service’.
The next one will be held on Thursday the 21st
December in our board room and aimed at CPD,
followed by our Christmas social event ‘Mince pie and a
Mingle’ - All are welcome!
Doncaster office birthday!
In September the Doncaster office turned “one” and to celebrate, three
members of the management team; Pete Riley (MD), Matthew Walkley
(Sales Manager) and Danni Johnson (Marketing Manager), delivered party
bags, baked goodies and birthday cards to
schools across Doncaster!
Thank you to all who have helped us achieve this
huge milestone in what we know will be the first of
many!
The office wouldn't exist without the support of our
schools and candidates! Thank you!
Candidate of the Term Winner
This year we have actually awarded 6 candidates with our Candidate of the Term award!
In July to support National Supply Teachers week, we asked schools across Yorkshire to
nominate a candidate for their hard work and determination, and decided rather than one
winner, this term we’d have four - one from each sector! Congratulations to all our Candidate
of the Term winners! You are all well-deserved winners and ambassadors for Academic
Appointments!
This terms’ winner was Kellie-Taylor White, one of Academic Appointments Special Needs
Teachers.
Kellie was nominated by Headteacher Tony Phillips at The Priory Centre:
“Without a second’s hesitation Kellie-Taylor
White. Since the day Kellie has started with us
she has been a ball of enthusiasm and energy,
she has risen to the challenge of teaching in a
difficult scenario with extremely challenging
students and hasn't wavered. She has taken on
a whole curriculum area and has delivered to
an exceptional standard. She weathered an
OFSTED inspection with humour and grace
and didn't shy away from having them see what
she did in the classroom, (She could have done
as a supply member of staff). She is always
looking for ways to improve her own practice,
and the contributes time and thought to whole
school issues, she listens to advice and
guidance in what is a new environment to her,
takes it on board and actions it effectively. She
has a positive work ethic, often being among
the first in ensuring she is set for the day. The
net effect is I have a highly effective teacher in
a classroom delivering high quality teaching
and learning. She is a real asset to our team.”
Academic Appointments would like to thank all the schools for their nominations and for
taking part in ‘Candidate of the Term’, and of course to Kellie and the rest of the nominees
for all the hard work and dedication!
2017 has been a very busy year in the Academic
Appointments team!

learning how to share - bless!

the second time in January when his fiancé Megan gave birth
to the beautiful Ella on the 31st. Excited big brother Archie

Helens Church, followed by a small reception at Denton Hall.
ENGAGEMENT EXCITEMENT
Scott, Secondary Consultant, whisked his partner Gemma off for a
surprise weekend in Dublin! Little did she know it was also starting
with a surprise proposal! Scott set the scene in the kitchen of their
new home and managed to lure Gemma in the room by pretending he
had burnt his hand on the iron. Poor Gemma rushed to his aid but was
greeted by her favourite song playing and Scott down on one knee!
Old romantic! Despite the shock and confusion Gemma said YES!
Easter Card Competition Winner
The winning design was by Rebecca, aged 17 from North West
SILC Benton Park. Liam, our Senior SEND Consultant and Alisha,

was extremely happy that she had won - well done Rebecca!
We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to our
schools and pupils who took part in our competition.

An Exciting New Chapter has Begun
As some of you may have seen in the media, in May 2017 Academic
Appointments received investment from new partners - Solingen.
This partnership marks the start of a new exciting chapter in
Academic Appointments’ 12-year history, one which will see
extensive opportunities for all involved.
There will be no big changes, we will remain the same Academic
Appointments we have been since 2004, the only thing you will
notice is that we’ll get even better at what we do, and quicker.
Working with Solingen will enable Academic Appointments to take on
ambitious growth plans to add further service offers and create new
opportunities.
Mo Parkin will remain in the business. Mo has put her heart and soul
into everything we do here at Academic Appointments and so we felt
it was important to let everyone know that as much as she is entitled
to rest, she has no intention of going anywhere. Mo will take on a
new role as our Executive Chairperson, she will work alongside the
management team to provide support and guidance and who knows
she may even fill the odd booking so you may just get a call.
Pete Riley has been promoted to Managing Director, a positive
decision which everyone in the business supports. Pete is an
experienced Primary Chair of Governors, many of you who operate
in the West Leeds cluster or Leeds Schools forum will know him.
With this knowledge and his dedication to Education, he is well-
placed to lead the team into the
future.
We hope you will join us in
congratulating Mo on her
success of the last 12 years
and continue to support her,
Pete and all the team at
Academic Appointments in this
exciting development phase.
New Recruits & Promotions
2017 has welcomed four new recruits to Academic Appointments and seen the
award of three well-deserved promotions! Congratulations to all!
Kerry is our newest recruit having only just joined the SEND team
here at Academic Appointments in October 2017. Having a
background in volunteering with children in care and a real
passion for working with young people, combined with two years
of recruitment experience, she is ready and waiting to help our
SEND specialists find their next position.
When she’s not at work, Kerry keeps herself busy by going to the
gym and is interested in travel, having worked on a cruise ship a
few years ago.

The first agency to use Feefo! Feefo is an independent online review system which allows our schools and supply
staff to complete reviews generated by Feefo and not us. The reviews are then live on
our website for all to see! Yes it is risky but we are confident the Academic
Appointments team provide an excellent service and after all how can we improve if
we don’t know where to start.
Academic Appointments have given me
back my confidence and appreciation of
teaching. Thanks must go especially to
Olivia and the SEND team for opening
doors that I never would’ve gone through in
the past. All of you are amazing. Thank
you.
Thank you to Liz, Melissa, Liam, Olivia and the rest of the team at Academic Appointments. I
always felt I was valued, appreciated and was part of a team. I can’t wait to start my
permanent role within my school. However, I will never forget the valuable experience gained
from working with such a professional agency. Highly recommended.
Definitely recommend. Lauren was
amazing. I would 100% recommend her
and this company. Lauren made moving
jobs so easy. She found me a position that
suits me, negotiated my pay and was
genuinely helpful and lovely during the
entire process.
Highly Recommend - Academic Appointments are a pleasure to work with! They make life
easier by getting to know the schools needs and matching the supply teachers to suit.
Excellent personal service, trustworthy, honest and value for money. Highly recommend!
Standard of teachers tasked with
our bookings is always high. Our
contact Julia consistently
exceeds our expectations
ensuring candidates are a good
fit for our school.
