The results were: "CoQ10 was effective in suppressing gingival inflammation." In an additional study, Dr. T. Matsumura and Dr. Karl Folkers performed a double blind trial of CoQ10 versus regular periodontal treatments for advanced periodontitis. 24 subjects suffering from severe periodontal disease which had not responded to extensive flossing and brushing were studied. 13 subjects received 50 mg of CoQ10, while 11 received placebos. 9 of the 13 CoQ10 patients made dramatic improvements. Only 3 of the 11 placebo recipients displayed minor improvement. In 4 of the CoQ10 patients, symptoms of periodontitis completely disappeared within 8 weeks. "The therapeutic improvement with CoQ10 was better both by the number of improved patients and the degree of improvement," reported the doctors. CoQ10 is a miracle nutrient, and you should be taking it for daily health maintenance, if not for the health of your gums. While, studies show improvement with even small dosages of less than 100mg of CoQ10, a therapeutic dosage of 150mg while you are still showing symptoms of periodontal disease is advised. Once the gums have healed, the dosage can be reduced to around 50-100mg. The most effective CoQ10 was found to be in softgel form. Note: Since CoQ10 is a fat soluble nutrient, it's important to take it with a high-quality essential fatty acid (EFA) supplement, such as flax oil or virgin coconut oil, to improve uptake. Holistic Dental Care for Healthy Teeth

The teeth are essentially bones and supplements and herbs that

treat the skeleton and the joints make good choices for long-term

tooth health. Supplements and certain botanicals effectively heal

inflammations and help strengthen teeth naturally ...

Quite a few options are listed below. You don't have to apply them

all - pick those that are best suited for your purposes and are

easiest (and least expensive) to implement ...

Vitamin C: Teeth are held in the gums by connective tissue, and

formation of connective tissue needs vitamin C. About 4 grams of

vitamin C daily is required to prevent receding gums and the

formation of pockets between the teeth and gums.

Gums can be reconnected to the teeth by adding 1 tsp ascorbic

acid with aluminum-free baking soda (i.e., Bob's Red Mill

Baking Soda) in 1 inch of water. Let it fizz and then dilute to 1/2 to

1 cup with water, then drinking. The resulting sodium ascorbate is

non-acid, very pure and a thousand times more soluble than

vitamin C. Sodium ascorbate is more effective in building

connective tissue and antibody structures and more effective in

killing some viruses and bacteria than ascorbic acid. (Ref.: Dental

CoQ10: Researchers at Osaka University Faculty of Dentistry in

Japan gave eight patients with moderately or severely inflamed

gums 60 mg of CoQ10 a day for eight weeks - without any other

treatments being provided. The results were: "CoQ10 was

effective in suppressing gingival inflammation." In an additional

used diligently several times a day, was able to reduce plaque by 50 percent and reduced gum pockets by 1 to 2

mm.

Gum Packs: In serious cases of gum disease, nightly gum packs - made from a combination of turmeric, aloe,

willow bark, vitamin E, and powdered alum rolled in gauze and tucked into the corners of the mouth - have shown

great effectiveness.

Hydrogen peroxide is alkaline and bubbles and foams as it destroys the bacteria. If there are pockets

between the teeth and gums, the foaming action of the hydrogen peroxide helps to clean them out. It also cleans

the tongue. For oral use, you can dilute the 3% hydrogen peroxide with up to 10 parts water.

Black Walnut is an anti-parasitical, antiseptic, antiviral and astringent that helps to support healthy gums. The

natural abrasive properties of Black Walnut Powder effectively removes dental plaque and its anti-inflammatory

powers soothe swollen gums. To get rid of a mouth sore try taking some liquid Black Walnut into your mouth and

swishing it around. Then follow this procedure with your normal tooth brushing (to prevent discoloration of your

teeth). In most cases, the sore will go away in less than a day.

Powdered White Oak Bark - historically used for bleeding gums and to tighten gum tissue around loose teeth.

Also relieves tooth infections. ...Dr. Moffat reported in an article a patient with bleeding, infected gums, including

pus coming out of the gums. The patient's dentist recommended gum surgery. However, the patient healed his

gum inflammation in two months using white oak bark powder. There are various ways to use it ...

Make a strong tea of White Oak bark and swish around mouth and gums for at least one minute, 3 times

daily

Use in a mouth wash (2 droppers of White Oak Bark tincture to 1 ounce of purified water) - pull through

your teeth and swish around for a minute or two

Sprinkle finely powdered White Oak bark on your toothbrush; gently brushing your teeth and the

gumline.

Make a paste of White Oak Bark and water and place on the affected area.

Oil of Oregano: Dental plaque and gum disease can be prevented with the oral application of oregano oil

because of its anti-bacterial properties. Swish one or two drops in your mouth, or put a drop on your toothbrush

when cleaning your teeth.

Goldenseal powder placed on the tooth or adjacent tooth tissue may help heal or minimize gum disease

symptoms.

Bilberry fruit and hawthorn berry stabilize collagen, thus strengthening the gum tissue.

Plantain is an astringent, soothing and anti-inflammatory plant that pulls toxins out of the body. Grind or mince a

fresh plantain plant and placing it on and around the infected area. Fresh plantain is best. Dried plantain is less

effective. This paste should be replaced frequently and can be left on overnight. Many report that this cured their

infected tooth often overnight.

Myrrh gum powder has been reported to clear up long-standing gum infection. It is one of the best treatments

for mouth ulcers, gingivitis and bleeding or spongy gums. This is due to its antiseptic, astringent, anti-inflammatory

and antiphlogistic properties.

Sage, taken as a mouthwash, helps with throat infections, dental abscesses, infected gums and mouth ulcers

Turmeric: Turmeric capsules and nightly packs of a paste made of turmeric powder, licorice root and vitamin E

Massage sore and inflammed gums with eucalyptus essential oil

The Ayurvedic herb "amla" supports the healing and development of connective tissue. Dr. Vasant Lad suggests

this herb in his book "Yoga of Herbs" (Lotus, 1986). Amla works well as a mouth rinse, or one to two grams per

day can be taken orally in capsules for long-term benefit to the teeth and gums.

Dr. Schultz Tooth and Gum Formula is a powerful liquid formulation of various herbs which are effective in

cases of receding gums, rotting teeth, as well as diseased dental bone. The botanicals in that formula serve to

reduce inflammation, stop bleeding gums, and tighten the surrounding gum tissue so as to prevent plaque and

debris from reaching below the gum line.

Ingredients:

* 10 oz Echinacea Tincture

* ¼ cup Tea tree oil

* 4 oz Bayberry tincture

* 2 oz Oak Gall (or 3x oak bark) tincture

* 2 Tablespoons Cayenne tincture

* 2.5 dropperfuls Peppermint oil

* 2.5 dropperfuls Clove oil

You can also purchase the ingredients separately and mix together yourself. Best added to your water pik - place

4 to 6 full droppers of the formula into a water pick reservoir along with warm water. Alternatively, you can add 2

full droppers to 2 ounces of water and rinse your mouth thoroughly by swishing and straining the solution through

your teeth. This formula can also be massaged directly, full strength, into the gums using a cotton swab; or add a

drop or two to your toothbrush. If done daily you should notice gum bleeding halts within 1 week.
