3D Television3DTV TVs - two separate

images and display them simultaneously

Send one image to your left eye and the other to your right

This makes it difficult for the eyes to focus

The image mixture appears as if it has depth

What is a Hologram? A 3D imaged formed by interference of light beams form a

laser or other light source

One is shined on the object one bypasses the object

The two meet and interfere on a piece of holographic film

Interference pattern etched onto a piece of holographic film.

When a laser is shined back onto the holographic film, it translates the interference pattern back into a 3D image

Mark IIStephen Benton began

wok on the Mark II in 1989

Acusto-optic modulation (AOM); laser, transducer, transparent surface.

Sound waves stretch the transparent surface changing how the light passes though it.

expensive material, tellurium dioxide in crystal form

Daniel Smalley

Benton died in 2003 and his assistant becomes head of research team

Uses a similar concept to AOM

Much smaller surface; chip the size of a microscope slide

Lithium Niobate

Waveguides, more efficient use of light
