The author's intention was to apply tex
tual criticism to some Heraclitean fragments: ?Was ich hier vorlege ist eine
Reihe von Einzeluntersuchungen. Die
Folge ist ziemlich willk?rlich. Das
Schwergewicht liegt auf dem philologischen Aspekt der behandelten Texte

Das Gesamtbild des Philosophen Hera

Absicht? (Vorwort). The result of the book is, however, a
totally rewritten Heraclitus. After em
ploying heavy scholarly artillery, the
author was able to offer a bizarre text of
Heraclitus, more obscure than the extant
one. Through wild emendations and vio
lent alterations of the transmitted text,
the author has succeeded in leaving be
hind Heinrich Gomperz (Diels' nemesis)and others. Here are a few samples of the
new techne.
