THE JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY
FROM THE PASTOR…
With Lent just around the corner, we are about to begin the parish phase of the annual diocesan Catholic Charity Appeal. Most of you have probably already received a letter from the bishop with a donation card that you may have returned directly to the diocese with your
pledge or donation. I thank you for your donation. In prayerfully considering how much we are able to contribute to the Appeal, I believe it is important for us to know where the money goes and how it is used throughout the state. Next weekend we will welcome Mr. John J. Barry who is the Secretary for Catholic Charities and Social Ministry for our Diocese. He oversees and is directly involved in many of the agencies that are funded by the Catholic Charity Appeal and he will give us an insight into the most important ways that our donations support those in need of assistance or pastoral care. Along with his brief presentation, we will do the in-pew solicitation. There will be envelopes available in the pews for you to make your pledge or one-time gift to the Appeal. Our parish goal again this year is $145,000.00. Last year we fell short of the goal. However, I am confident that if every family in our parish made some donation according to their ability to give, we would have no problem surpassing our goal. Every donation is important and makes a difference. If you did not give last year, please consider contributing to this year’s Appeal. If you did give last year, thank you for your generosity and please let us count on your continued support. Most of us at Holy Apostles live comfortably and have been blessed in many ways. Let us be mindful of those who struggle or who turn to the Church for pastoral needs. Our generosity is a powerful sign of our gratitude for God’s goodness to us. Msgr. Theroux

Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time ~ January 31, 2016
Catholic School (Grades K-8) Tuition Assistance Program Requirements
The underlying premise of the Catholic School Tuition Assistance Program is that financial assistance is based on need. In order to insure objectivity, the Diocesan Catholic School Office’s policy requires that parents complete a financial aid application form that may be obtained from the Catholic school the child attends or plans to attend next year. The deadline for submitting applications is mid-February. In addition, a letter requesting consideration for assistance must be submitted to Msgr. Theroux as soon as possible but no later than the end of April.
A second premise of the Catholic School Tuition Assistance Program is that it is meant to assist those families who are actively involved in the practice of the faith and in the life of their respective parish. Irrespective of the financial need, the following policies must be followed in order to be considered for financial assistance.
--Families requesting assistance must follow church law on fulfilling the "Sunday" obligation to attend Mass. If the child lives with two parents who are Catholic, both parents must attend. It should also be by way of exception that a family attends Mass in a parish other than Holy Apostles.
--At least one parent must be involved in a parish program/ministry.
--Families must be regular contributors to the parish budget using the weekly envelopes or through Faith Direct.
Youth & Young Adult Survey (for Ages 12 – 29) Are you a young Catholic between the ages of 12-29? If so, the Diocese of Providence needs your help. We know that 85% of young Catholics stop practicing their faith within 10 years of receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation and we want to do something about it. We need to find fresh, new ways to keep young Catholics, Catholic! Please help us by going to www.catholicyouthri.com and clicking on Youth & Young Adult Survey. Be sure to share this link with your friends and family so that they can help too! Be a part of the solution….Your opinion matters! This is your chance. Parents and grandparents spread the word.
FALL FESTIVAL 2016 We’re happy to announce that the fall festival will be making its return this year on Friday, September 16th through Sunday, September 18th.
Planning is underway and once again we’re excited about the food, festivities, entertainment and amusement rides that we’ll have during the festival.
As always, the success of the festival will depend on the number of parishioners who will volunteer their time and talent before, during and after the three day event. There are lots of opportunities for you to get involved. In particular, the Festival committee is in need of additional members. If you’re interested please attend our next Fall Festival meeting on Monday, February 8th at 6:30pm here in the church. Your support and prayers are greatly appreciated! Feel free to contact Manny Silva at 401-580-5182 or [email protected] if you have any questions.

As we begin a new liturgical season, we find it the perfect time to invite new members to our choir family. We rehearse on Thursday evenings from 7pm to 9pm and sing at the 9:30am Mass and special liturgies and feast days. Please consider sharing your voice. As Saint Augustine said, “He who sings, prays twice!” And not to mention, good seating, great parties and prime parking.
