A.P.R.E.’s Report For the week before the festival, around the corridors, class rooms and pavilion, students practised dancing in preparation for the festival and as a result, I can’t get out of my head the words of a song: And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance! In my opinion, life without dance is hardly worth living! There are people who dance every dance and there are people who watch from the sideline. You have only to look at those on the dance floor to see the fun, hear the laughter and know that for a time their cares are far away and all that is, is the dance! I have found that it is hard to look sad when dancing. We have only to recall the faces of our children from last Sunday. At times, it is easier to sit on the sideline, because then there is no risk of looking silly and there is no chance of not being in step and there is no threat of developing aching muscles. And of course, there is always the excuse: But I can’t dance!! It is easy to justify non-involvement because we are too busy to get out on the dance floor and venture out of our comfort zone. But, if we don’t join in the dance, then we run the risk of missing out on meeting some fascinating people on the dance floor, of learning new steps to master and we run the risk of never finding out that we can dance after all! Everyone can! It is tempting to remain within the confines of our limits, but then how are we ever going to learn new steps or teach others the steps we know? So, wouldn’t it be fantastic if through the coming week, we could dance with our God, The Lord of the Dance - a great partner and One who knows all the steps. This is my last communiqué for a couple of weeks, as I am heading overseas to Rome and then aboard a boat heading from Amsterdam to Budapest. No doubt, there will be ‘dancing!’ Take care of yourselves until I see you again. May God be with you! Patty McCourt

Pastoral Care Corner
Dear Parents Science of Happiness is the title of an article written by Georgi Slade, a health care practitioner. I thought it was worth passing on, for ourselves and our children. “Many books and articles give us different remedies for happiness. There are now scientific studies on Positive Psychology and “the science of happiness”. Traditionally psychologists have focused on ‘what makes people unhappy’. Now there are some who are focusing on ‘what makes people happy’. Much has been written about the fact that money does not increase our happiness, that as long as we have enough to enable us to be comfortably fed, clothed and housed, having a lot more will not increase our happiness. The emerging areas of consensus are that there are 7 Habits of Happy People. I don’t think there will be much to surprise us in these results, but it never hurts to remind ourselves of their importance. 1. Relationships – people who have one or more close friendships are happier. It doesn’t seem to matter if we have a large network of close relationships or not. What seems to make a difference is if and how often we co-operate in activities and share our personal feelings with a friend or relative. 2. Caring – people who volunteer or simply care for others on a consistent basis seem to be happier and less depressed. Although ‘caring’ can involve organised volunteering, it can be as simple as reaching out to anyone who looks lonely or has a current need. Thank you to all our festival volunteers! 3. Exercise- regular exercise has been associated with improved mental well-being and a lower incidence of depression – this has been proved clinically. 4. Flow (accomplishment) - if we are involved in trying to reach a goal, or a challenging activity that is within our range of skills we may experience a joyful state called ‘flow’. 5. Spiritual engagement and meaning – studies demonstrate a close link between spiritual and religious practice and happiness. 6. Strengths and Virtues – studies in the new area of Positive Psychology show that the happiest people are those that have discovered their unique strengths (such as persistence and critical thinking) and virtues (such as humanity or justice) and use those strengths and virtues for a purpose greater than their own goals 7. Positive thinking - Optimism and gratitude: of all the areas studied, gratitude has perhaps received the most attention. Grateful people have been shown to have greater positive emotion, a greater sense of belonging, and a lower incidence of depression and stress. A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort! Herm Albright Have a happy day! God bless Sr Anne. CONGRATULATIONS to Matthew Devlin who has been selected in the Met North Cross Country team. He will join others at the event at Bald Hills next Tuesday.

think you will all agree it was a wondewondewondewonderful rful rful rful
day, day, day, day, and the Festival overall was a great
success, but we would NOTNOTNOTNOT have been able to
do it without your helpyour helpyour helpyour help. We know many of you
helped on multiple stalls, so your valuable time
given is much appreciated.
It was really incredible to see how much
support there is at Holy Cross, by the sheer
volume of baking that was done, the number of
people who volunteered to help, and also the
fact that people would just come up and say
‘how are you going? Do you need a hand?’ It is
wonderful to be part of such a caring and
supportive school community.
Can you please ensure this gratitude is
extended to your family, friends and
neighbours, as I know many of these also
supported the stall, and the Festival.
ALLALLALLALL of your individual contributions of help,
have been immensely appreciated.
Till next year……..
Kelly and Karen
To All Sweet Bakers and
Jam Makers,
We were overwhelmed by the support shown by the Holy Cross Community in providing stock for the Sweets and Jam Stall. Thank you to all that baked, cooked, packaged and served on the day to make the Stall a success. You were so kind to donate your valuable time, expertise and resources to our School. Once again the quality and quantity of sweets and jams was a highlight of the Holy Cross Festival. Please pass on our appreciation to the many extended family members who also were kind enough to provide their loved family recipes. We are so grateful and feel privileged to be associated with such a spirited Community. Kindest Regards, Toni Williamson and Alisa Bradley Moore
THANK YOU NOTE FROM THE HIGH TEA

A very special thank you to all the volunteers
and donors that helped to make the High Tea

helpers on the day and setting up the day before.
We would like to thank Kelly Whittle, Bridget
Piper, Loretta Mammarella, Madonna
Eyndhoven, Jane Vincent, Leanne Warfield,
Nicole Rowell, Suzie Smith, Jeanette Morrison,
Bijal Tiru, Janice Cutajar, and Sharon Kellett.
Most importantly our very special grandmas
Glenda Pradella, who also donated the fabulous
flowers on each table, and Elaine Baker, who
baked spare scones as well as manning the
Sewing Stall.
Dee Chester, Cassy Baker and Nicole Rowell
are also gratefully appreciated for donating
fabulous treats for us to serve on the High Tea
Stall.
We also had lots of generous donors. Thank you
to Carmen Cameron and Merle Harrington
(Dahlia’s great-grandma) for donating fabric and
trims for the sewing stall. The High Tea Stall
looked fabulous on the day thanks to the
beautiful bunting made by Madonna Eyndhoven.
Thanks to Maria Moscelle for organising a
Coles voucher to purchase ingredients. We also
had wonderful craft and sewing donations from
Linda Toich, Elaine Baker, Kelly Whittle, Harry
Moore’s Nanna & Rex and Marie Hanley’s
Nanna. Also, we would like to thank Maddie
Barbour for helping with clean up on Monday.
Thank you to everyone who bought a ticket in
our High Tea Stall raffle. The winners have all
been contacted.
A special thanks to Dahlia Vogel’s father Paul
and Harry Moore’s father Edward for their
financial contribution to the running of the High
Tea Stall.
Love from Sharon and Britt.
The Egan family and Dawn`s Parents would like to
thank Teachers and Dawn`s friends and all the
Parents that helped us and gave us so much
support when my Husband collapsed at the cross
country at Shaw Sports, we will never forget your
kindness and prayers for him, I think this was one
of the most stressful days I can remember, you
all made it easier to get through but Joe is out of
hospital and is improving, we love coming to the
grandchildren`s sports events and hopefully this
will not happen again. Holy Cross is one of the
nicest schools I have ever been to and we always
enjoy all the sports that the boys do, so once
again a very heartfelt thank you.
