On Friday, April 21, 2017, the fourth graders participated in Pioneer Day. To culminate their unit on Pioneer Life and Westward Expansion, the fourth graders were invited to dress as the pioneers did and complete engineering challenges and participate in pioneer crafts and games. These STEM experiences challenged the fourth graders to use their critical thinking skills, scientific & mathematical minds, and creativity.
They included building covered wagons and rafts to ford a river, letter punching to design their very own leather bands, making Button Spinners, and playing Rolling Hoops & Marbles. Using craft materials and household recyclables, the students had a great time building and testing, and playing like the pioneers did in the mid-1800s. To conclude Pioneer Day, the fourth graders made johnnycakes and churned butter with our dedicated parent volunteers. They also tried “Pioneer (Vinegar) Lemonade. When they weren’t cooking, the fourth-grade historians filmed their historic pioneer journals. Look out for their written historical fiction pioneer journals on the hallway bulletin board. We are proud of our engaged, responsible fourth grade learners.
THANK YOU
to all of the fourth-grade parents for donating
funds to provide for the
necessary materials. A SPECIAL THANKS to the following volunteers who facilitated our stations: Tammy Redsun (our chair), Amanda Spencer,
Lisa Johnson, Julie & John Widmer, Jennifer Webster, Alan & Kaye Jackson, Beth Caldwell, Joan Ruud, and Renee Dorval.
The fourth graders APPRECIATE ALL OF YOU!

SCHEDULE
CHANGE
This week at Holy Family we are celebrating Spirit Week. As many of you know, spirit week involves dressing up to a different theme
every day. So far, we have had pajama day and character day. Today is Hawaiian day and tomorrow is Back to the Past.
Friday, we are dressing in a crazy way. It has been a blast so far. Make sure to remind your child
to dress their best and have fun! Leadership has worked very hard to think of
exciting activities for each day.
Thank you for a great Spirit Week!
