Becoming a Catholic Christian
The parish has a year-round/on-going process to assist adults in becoming Catholic. It also has a special program for older unbaptized children. Both can start any time. Call Deacon George (868-2310) for further information
Sacrament of Marriage
Engaged couples begin preparation for the Sacrament of Marriage at least 6 months before their wedding. Please remember—a wedding date will not be scheduled until the assessment of their readiness for the Sacrament of Marriage has been completed. Contact the rectory for more information. Weddings are not scheduled during the Season of Lent. Anointing of the Sick
The sacrament is for those having surgery, the seriously ill, the chronically ill, and those near death. If you know in advance that you are going to the hospital, call one of the priests to arrange for anointing at home or church. In addition the sacrament is celebrated at church on the first Saturday of the month after evening Mass and on the third Sunday of the month after 8:00 Mass. It may be repeated as needed.

I’m happy to welcome to our parish again this weekend a group of Catholic men who gather here because of their faith. I’m grateful for our Men’s Club continuing to organize this event. With these men we all have much to remember, to look forward to, and to thank God for in our lives. May the life of St. Joseph and the lives of these men help us to remember that letting God give direction to your life expands your capacity for loving others which al-ways leads you someplace good.

A Two-Minute Daily Spiritual Exercise Learning Not to Put Limits on God WE ALL HAVE DAYS WHEN OUR FAITH IS WEAK. Days when we’re tempted to limit what God can do for us and through us. For example, we give up trying to change a bad situation because of too much opposition. We give up trying to connect with someone who seems distant. We give up trying to make a difference because change is taking too long. We all need encouragement.
The following spiritual exercise might be a good way to discover and deeply remember the “indomitable Spirit of God” in your life. An investment of just two minutes each day will lead you - and through you many others - to a full-ness of life and indomitable spirit of care for others.
First, quiet down, within yourself and around you. Then simply ask God to be with you and to guide your thoughts on these questions about your day:
What happened in my life today? Remember the simple facts and events so easily forgotten in the busyness of our days.
How did I feel as my day went on? Go a bit deeper than the facts and recall one or two of your stronger emotions.
Where was God during my day today? Let God remind you of the persons, ideas, memories, objects, or anything that was a part of your day and meant to be a sign to you of God’s presence and power.
Take just two minutes everyday for this exercise. Your faith will be strong in the sureness - no matter what may happen in your life - that God is with you. Also, teach this exercise to your children early in life and our Church will be strong in faith.

Most of us have heard of Pay Day or Title loans. These loans prey on those who can least afford it. Interest rates on these loans can be upwards of 400%. These loans are not regulated under legal usury laws. It is very probable that someone you know has been harmed by these exorbitant interest rates. After all Masses on January 14th and the 15th in the community center, you will have the opportunity to sign a petition on the Missouri Pay Day Loan Restriction. Please take the time to sign the petition to make your congressman aware of your disagreement on Pay Day/Title Loans.

Hello! My name is Martha Johnson, and I am a member of Sacred Heart Church in Florissant. I am also a member of a Singles Again, a Catholic organization that helps people heal mentally, socially, and spiritually from the pain of loosing a spouse through death or divorce. We are holding a Steps to Wholeness Workshop, which is in conjunction with The Catholics Come Home Program underway. This program is to help people work through the pain of loosing a spouse from either divorce or death, and will begin on Friday, January 20th at All Saints church in St. Peters, MO. Hospitals, because they are going paperless, are no longer listing the parishes of patients. Although the common cold can make an appearance any time during the year, the winter months have been known as cold and flu season. And surveys and statistics show that the incidents of colds and influenza tend to spike from December through February. Many people believe that colds and flu are the result of cold weather, but the medical and al-ternative medicine communities have their own opinions regarding how people catch colds or the flu. One doctor even states,” The cold and flu are transmitted by respiratory droplets from one person to another.” An herbalist recommends Vitamin D3 sup-plements because the cold weather keeps people indoors and they are unable to get vitamin D from sun exposure, which boosts our immune systems. She also says that Vitamin D3 is the easiest to ab-sorb and can take the place of sunlight exposure. Many who practice medicine believe that exposure to cold weather does not cause colds or flu, but if the virus has already entered the body, being cold or fatigued can decrease a persons im-munity. Those who practice alternative medicine believe that vitamin supplements are the key to re-maining healthy. Adults in the workplace, as well as children in school are pressured to have good attendance. This just sets us up to encourage bad behavior. We send our children back to school to soon and ex-pose other children or we, ourselves go to work when we feel ill because we don’t want to have a poor attendance record. According to the medical population, most colds and flu have a duration of 7-10 days. Adults and children are highly encouraged to stay home when they are sick, at least during the worst part of the illness. Once symptoms have noticeably im-proved and the temperature is returning to normal, it is considered safe to return to school or work. Other recommendations to prevent spreading a cold or flu would be to wash hands frequently and not touch the nose and mouth. Over the counter medications usually work in helping a person get over a cold or the flu, but worsening symptoms may require antibiotics prescribed from your doc-tor. BLOOD DRIVE AT HOLY NAME OF JESUS
Please join Holy Name of Jesus and MVRBC in saving lives. A blood drive will be held at HNJ Community Center on Tues-day, January 17th, 2012 from 3pm—7pm. Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center will be providing the clinical collection of the drive. If you are a first time donor, you must be 18 years of age and bring identification. The upper age for donating blood is limitless. If you would like to donate but don’t know if you can, come and talk to one of the staff members and they can help you. Mass for Healing A Mass for healing will be celebrated at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta parish church, located at 1050 Smith Ave, Ferguson, MO., on Wednesday, January 25th at 7pm. During the celebration, FR. Rosy and a number of other prayer teams will pray over every-one who seeks prayer for healing. While on earth, Jesus taught, healed and delivered. He commissioned all the baptized to do the same. Please come with your need, to pray for someone, else or as intercessor for those who are being prayed with.

For Divorced and Separated Catholics Desiring a Sacramental Marriage Quick-Start Annulment Program IF YOU DESIRE THE SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE as a divorced or separated Catholic and want to better understand what you may need to do in order to receive this Sacrament, take some time to think and pray about attending one of the Quick-Start sessions listed below. If you find taking this first step difficult, you may want to talk with a family member or friend and ask for their support. I would also encourage parish members to invite and encourage their friends and family to take advantage of this opportunity.
Any one of these sessions will give you a brief overview of the Sacrament of Marriage with an explanation of the annulment process. You will receive personal assistance from a member of our Church who has helped others with this process. If you are ready, you can even begin any application process that may be required.

Our Church’s greatest concerns are to provide you with information about the annulment process, to give attention to your questions, and to offer pastoral support. Come to any session. Registration is not required.
In order to experience the greatest possible benefit from attending one of these sessions, please bring your marriage history including the date and location of any marriage and divorce as well as the name and address of your former spouse.
