This WEEKEND WELCOME TO OUR PARISH for Masses with our community Fr. Michael Boehm, Vicar for Priests for the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Fr. Mike was ordained in 1994 and lives with Fr. Kevin Schroeder, who now serves as Pastor of St. Michael’s Parish (Shrewsbury). As a seminarian in 2005 Fr. Schroeder lived here and helped with our transition. I will return on October 27th after spending some time with friends in New York City continuing the celebration of our 40th anniversary.

I learned that children are still enrolling in this program

and that volunteers are still needed.

It provides tutoring, mentoring, and homework help in reading, math,

writing, and spelling enrichment—with a meal and evening activities!

All striving to show God’s love and provide practical help for children to succeed in their education and lives.

Give them a call if you’d like to know more about enrolling or

volunteering for the greater good of our community!

SAVE THE DATE, Saturday, DEC. 6 It’s just about that time again! We are having a Breakfast with Santa at Holy Name of Jesus for the children of our parishes and school.

It’s a wonderful community event that is fun for all ages! We will have a wonderful breakfast, a Santa store where you can buy gifts, games, face painting, raffles, crafts for the kids, Christmas songs, pictures…we have it all! Pro-ceeds go to help send our youth group to Washington DC to MARCH FOR PROLIFE!! Are you tired of clutter in your house? We all have it…things we thought we wanted but we don’t, or things someone gave us but we don’t really need. Some of these things are still in the box or have been used just once and are in great condition so we don’t want to throw them out! Well, here is a way to put those things to use...guilt free! Our youth group will be collecting usable, new or nearly new items like mugs, decorations, jewelry, puzzles, Christmas stuff, etc. to sell in our Santa store so we can send our youth to the ProLife trip.

SUPER-VITAMIN C

Abundant in many fruits and vegetables, vitamin C is easy to pump into your diet. But don’t take it for granted. This antioxidant contributes to healthy teeth and gums, iron absorption and wound healing –and helps prevent: GALLSTONES: Low blood levels of vitamin C have been linked with higher levels of cholesterol in the gallbladder-and cholesterol buildup contributes to painful gallstones. CATARACTS: Vitamin A isn’t the only antioxidant that saves your sight. Long-term use of vitamin C supplements can greatly reduce risk of cataracts. HEART DISEASE: Vitamin C helps prevent LDL from forming and blood vessels from constricting-and cutting off blood supply to the heart. Vitamin C may also boost the antioxidant effects of another heart helper, vitamin E. HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE: Vitamin C can help to maintain normal blood pressure. HOW MUCH TO TAKE? The recommended daily allowance for Vitamin is 60 Mg. Peace and Hope, S. Rose, SSND, RN

Dear Parishioners, We are getting ready to begin our preparation for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist with our second graders. If you know of any parents or guardians who are interested in these sacraments for their children and whose chil-dren do not attend Christ Light, please have them call school (314-741-0400) and ask for me. May God bless you for all you do to support our school!

Are you concerned, confused, curious about Medicare, Medicare suppliments, Social Security, etc, etc, etc.???? Please plan on attending an in-service to be given by Tom Lohmann on Thursday, November 13th at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Center. Tom gave a presentation a few years ago and those who attended found him very helpful.

Communion of Saints Devotion

The month of November has traditionally been a time when the Church celebrated the Communion of Saints, prays for those who have died, and prepares to welcome the one St. Francis called “Sister Death”. In keeping with this tradition, we will once again be creating Communion of Saints devotional areas, on which we will honor, not only some recognized saints of the Church but our own loved ones who have gone before us. We are inviting families to share with us a photograph (in a frame if possible) of loved ones who have died. We will display these in our devotional area along with the relics of saints. In order to design the devotional space, we ask that all photographs be turned into the Parish Office or brought to the sacristy in the church by October 26th. Al photos will be returned in December. Thank you to all who brought

their frozen Soup, Stew and Chili this past weekend! Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Come, enjoy meeting and conversing with folks who share an enthusiasm for their Austrian/Hungarian heritage. Burgenland is one of the 9 states of Austria and borders Hungary. Many Aus-trian and Hungarian immigrants came to St. Louis in the early 1900’s from this region. If you have an-cestors from any of the villages in the Burgenland area this gathering is for you! Bring photos, family trees, memorabilia, favorite family recipes, even a dish to share if you like ~ or just yourself! For more information, and to let us know you plan to attend, contact Theresa McWilliams by email; [email protected] Erzählen Sie Ihren Freunden! (Tell your friends!)

October 20, 2014

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I want to inform you that an allegation of the sexual abuse of a minor in the 1980s has been made against the Reverend John J. Ghio. Having consulted with the Promoter of Justice, the Vicar for Priests, and the Review Board of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, and to ensure the integrity of the process, I have suspended Father Ghio’s priestly fac-ulties until a canonical process is concluded.

Father Ghio’s priestly assignments in the Archdiocese of St. Louis were as follows:

June 1980 Associate, St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish, Riverview Gardens June 1982 Associate, St. John the Baptist Parish, St. Louis May 1983 Associate, St. Joseph Parish, Manchester June 1986 Associate, St. Angela Merici Parish, Florissant May 1989 Associate, Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, University City May 1991 Pastor, St. Joseph Parish, Farmington Nov. 1995 Pastor, St. John the Baptist Parish, St. Louis June 2000 Pastor, St. Peter Parish, St. Charles June 2008 Senior Associate Pastor, Assumption Parish, Mattese June 2011 Retired, priest in residence, Annunciation Parish, Webster Groves

Presently, Father Ghio continues to be retired from active ministry and resides in a monitored environment.

Anyone who wishes to make a report of the sexual abuse of a minor by any priest, deacon or employee of the Archdiocese of St. Louis may contact Deacon Phil Hengen, Director of Child and Youth Protection, Archdiocese of St. Louis, at 314.792.7704 or [email protected]. Reports may also be made to civil authori-ties or to the Missouri Division of Social Services Child Abuse Hotline at 800.392.3738 for allegations involving a person who is currently under the age of 18. Allegations involving a person who is now an adult, but was abused as a mi-nor, may be made to Deacon Hengen or to the civil authorities.

Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Robert J. Carlson Archbishop of St. Louis
