The Religious Ed office will be closing for the summer (July and August). Classes will re-sume in September. We will need the following so we can order enough materials. Completed registration form along with baptismal certificate for any child wishing to attend First Communion classes. Completed registration form with baptismal certificate for any one freshman and older wishing to be confirmed this coming year. We will have interviews for both when classes start up again. Registration forms available in the Church. If you have an interest in helping pass on our faith, please contact me. We cannot fully serve the parish without the help of volunteers. Formed will be a component of our classes this fall. If you have not already signed up, please do so now so you can become familiar with it when classes start. Registering for FORMED is easier than ever:

Go to formed.org/signup; In the search box key in our zip code (97459) and select Holy Redeemer from the provided dropdown menu Register with your name and email address. Check your email Inbox for a link to start watching FORMED. I will continue to send weekly emails throughout the summer with my personal reflections on upcoming liturgy as well as the children’s liturgy materials as long as we have internet access. Blessings, Jim and Ann, Religious Ed office

Dear Parish Family, The readings for this week show us that God wants nothing but life and goodness for us, if only we will let Him rescue us. The first reading explains that God desires life for us, not death. The second reading tells us that God desires abundance for all his children. And in the Gospel, Jesus brings a young girl back to life and heals a woman who has been suffering for years. For me personally, this week’s Gospel theme screams of restoration. Restoring us back into the people God created us to be. I came to this church over 40 years ago as a broken vessel. A product of a home filled with abandonment, alcoholism, physical and mental abuse, and divorce. Recently married to Ann and with a newborn child seriously ill, we had no other place to turn. Ann was raised in a Catholic home but had left the church. I had visited various other Christian churches mainly seeking refuge from pain. We showed up at Holy Redeemer parish in 1980 searching for some sort of peace. We sat in the back of the church for 11 years while God slowly began to heal me. In the Gospel reading, Jesus tells Jairus, “Do not be afraid; just have faith.” That is the same message Jesus sent me in the back of the church so many years ago. At first, I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t know how to trust. And then I didn’t want to believe it. I had been let down too many times. But every week I would watch regular folks like us, some rich, some poor, some young, some not so young, come to Mass to offer their lives to God. And those people reached out to us. They made us feel welcomed. And I slowly began to trust. And the healing began. Not just for me, but for my wife as well. It didn’t happen overnight, but I began to recog-nize a gift that God was offering me. And that gift was faith. Faith in Jesus. I joined the Church 12 years after we first showed up (the same amount of years the woman in the Gospel story struggled). Now this next part may be hard to understand unless you have experienced it, but while my relationship with Jesus was growing, I still struggled with God the Father. Because of my experiences my brain could not connect loving and father in the same thought. I had to go to the Father through what I called the Jesus filter. I would look at the Father through the eyes of His Son. And through that, I slowly began to trust God the Father. When Jesus tells the household of Jairus “The child is not dead but asleep” he could have been speaking of me. And maybe he could be speaking about some of you. Just like the hemorrhaging woman, we just have to reach out a little bit. She came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak….She approached in fear and trembling. She fell before Jesus and told him the whole truth. And Jesus said to her, “Daughter, your faith has saved you. Go in peace and be cured of your affliction.” Lord, give us faith to reach out and touch you so we may continue to be healed. Amen. Blessings , Jim & Ann DeLong
