DEAR HOLY FAMILY PARISHIONERS: This Sunday, the 4th Sunday of Easter, is the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. It is an opportunity to call our Church to prayer for more vocations & for an enrich-ment of vocations presently. One of the most obvious vocations to pray for is that of the priesthood & religious life. How our Church longs for more priests & sisters! If we look at the last 50 years or so, the numbers of both of them have declined. What used to be parishes with several priests are now one priest parishes or ones without a resident pastor. In the school there were religious sisters in most, if not every. classroom. Now, a sister in a Catholic school is a rarity. Catholic hospitals don’t have many sisters on staff. We are in need of more men to consider priesthood & women to consider the consecrated religious life. Another vocation that we need to pray for is marriage. We see the beauty of love enfleshed in those couples who profess their love through sacred vows. Their commit-ment to each other is a strong example of the oneness that Christ has for His Church. A third vocation is that of the single life. Our prayers need to include all those people who have chosen to live as single persons. They are encouraged to live commit-ted lives of chastity & faith, as are those in the other two above-mentioned vocations. Thank you to Deacon Michael who will be ordained a priest on May 27 & to our new deacon Rob Johnson, just ordained a deacon weeks ago. Thank you to Sisters Mary Jerome & Janet for their religious profession. Thank you to all you married & single people for your witness. Pray each day for vocations. ----FATHER JOE ---------------------------------------------------------------------
