  • February 14, 2016 FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT

    DEAR PARISHIONERS and VISITORS:

With the first Sunday of Lent, wehave a special step in the Rite ofChristian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). This is the way that our church familyreceives new adult members.

There are two types of people in RCIA: those who seek to be baptized at Easter or those who havealready been baptized with another Christian group and now wantto make the home for their faith in the Catholic church.

Both types of people are invited to the Enrollment of their Namesat a special Mass. This means that the Church recognizes theirreadiness for the sacraments of initiation. On their part theyexpress their will to receive these sacraments.

What follows in the coming weeks is a time of purification andenlightenment. This preparation includes prayers called scrutiniesat Sunday Mass which ask for God’s special help for them to turnfrom sin.

Please keep the dear people in the RCIA program in your prayers. Their journey of faith reminds us of God’s call to each Catholicfor ongoing conversion of mind and heart.

    Fr. Galvon

    Lenten Prayer for Spiritual Renewal

Lord, during this Lenten Season, nourish me

with Your Word of life and make me one

with You in love and prayer.

Fill my heart with Your love and keep me

faithful to the Gospel of Christ.

Give me the grace to rise above my human

    weakness.

Give me new life by Your Sacraments,

    especially the Mass.

Father, our source of life, I reach out with

joy to grasp Your hand; let me walk more

    readily in Your ways.

Guide me in Your gentle mercy, for left to

myself I cannot do Your Will.

Father of love, source of all blessings,

help me to pass from my old life of sin to the

    new life of grace.

Prepare me for the glory of Your Kingdom.

I ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ,

Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You

and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever.

    Amen.

Thanks, Longoria family, for yourdedicated and joyful service to ourcathedral, and to the Hispaniccommunity in our church. May Godbless you abundantly!

    STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION

The second reading from Saint Paul to the Romans is afavorite of those involved in the ministry of evangelization. There are no “secret” disciples of the Lord. Those whoexercise good stewardship of their faith realize that publiclyidentifying themselves as followers of Christ has acleansing effect on their lives. Openly confessing Christmakes them more conscious of how they live their dailylives. Are we content to privatize our faith or are we goodstewards of a faith that we share, make public, andregularly identify as a life in Christ? w w w .catholicstew ardship.org
