LYCEUM ELEVATOR REPLACEMENT Work is underway to replace the elevator in the Lyceum and will continue for several weeks. The elevator will be out of service periodically; entrance to the Parish Office will be via the Lyceum double doors. We apologize for any inconvenience, but the end result will be wonderful. Please let us know if you have any questions.
HOOLEY THANKS! Go raibh maith agat (thanks in Gaelic) to everyone who made our Third Annual St. Patrick’s Irish Hooley such a wonderful evening last Saturday, March 10. That includes each of you who attended, helping us raise about $8,000 for those in need at Christ House. Special thanks to Terry Riley, Pat Troy and all of our Ancient Order of Hibernians for their hard work. A huge thank you to our generous sponsors: Barnes Vanze Architects Inc., David Florenzo, Faith Direct, George Lynch, Infinity Technologies, Kate Pacious Landscaping, Kim Sackett, M3T Corporation, McLaughlin Ryder Investments, Tech Painting and Tim Cotnoir. Many thanks to our enter-tainers: Pat Garvey, the Boyle School of Irish Dance, and fiddlers The Thistle and the Rose. Thanks, also, to John Lilly of our parish staff for coordinating many of the details. It was a great joy to welcome Bishop Burbidge back to our Hooley for the second year in a row. His presence is becoming (we hope) a wonderful annual tradition!
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE TROYS! Long-time St. Mary parishioners Bernadette and Pat Troy are being honored this year as Grand Marshals for the annual Old Town Alexandria St. Patrick’s Parade. The Troys have lived in Old Town and operated businesses here for many years. Pat founded the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 1982. He also founded and is the moving force behind our parish Ancient Order of Hibernians group. Comhghairdeas (congratulations) to Bernadette and Pat. God bless them! The parade was planned for March 3 but was cancelled due to the recent dangerous wind storm. It is now scheduled for 1:30 p.m. today, Sunday, March 18. Although the parade route along King Street is not in our immediate area, it may complicate access to and from Masses today. Do your best!
SOLEMNITY OF ST. JOSEPH & PAPAL ANNIVERSARY
Monday, March 19, we celebrate the Solemnity of St. Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Foster- Father of the Son of God. It is also the anniversary of the inauguration of Pope Francis in St. Peter’s Square in 2013. An estimated 200,000 people attended, including official delegations from 132 states and religious groups. In his homily that day, Pope Francis encouraged everyone to care for the earth and for each other as Joseph cared for Mary.
St. Joseph, Mainstay of Families and Protector of Holy Church, pray for us.

FROM YOUR ST. VINCENT de PAUL SOCIETY Louis, his wife and five kids, and Miriam, her husband and three kids, are both recent immigrants from countries in which Catholicism is a small minority. From very differ-ent cultures, their Catholicism binds them to us as only our faith can. As devoted parents facing the same struggles to provide a better life for their kids as many of our immigrant ancestors did, they are looking to us to help them become self-sufficient. Help us help them realize that dream through your Lenten prayers, as a volunteer or by contributing to our Sustainment Fund via checks written to SVdP. Checks can be placed in the Poor Box or dropped off at the Parish Office. Contact Jim Larocco at [email protected] for more information.
Happy St. Patrick's Day! The Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) is America’s oldest Irish Catholic Fraternal Organization, founded in 1836 on the princi-ples of Friendship, Unity and Christian Chari-ty. We invite all practicing Catholic men (16 or older) of Irish heritage to seek admittance by joining us on the third Monday of each month upstairs at Murphy’s Grand Irish Pub on King Street in Old Town. Doors open at 6:45 p.m., meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. Our next meeting is on Monday, March 19. For more information, contact Terry Riley at [email protected] or 703.861.5826.

NEW BASILICA ROSARY A beautiful, limited-edition Basilica Ro-sary has been created in honor of the historic naming of St. Mary as a Minor Basilica on January 14, 2018. It is availa-ble for a donation of $70 or more to the Basilica Foundation, which supports im-provements and preservation of the Ba-silica. Specially crafted by the renowned firm Ghirelli of Rome, the rosary reflects our Basilica’s distinctive architectural appointments. The crucifix replicates the large crucifix in our sanctuary and the Our Father beads bear the image of the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary near our taber-nacle.
