SUNDAY’S REFLECTION: Almsgiving, Prayer, Fasting, and Temptation As we begin our season of fasting, prayer, and almsgiving, the reading from Deuteronomy reminds us of our duty of almsgiving, that we “set [our offerings] before the Lord, [our] God, [and] shall bow down in [God’s] presence” (Deuteronomy 26:10). The reading from Romans refers us to our prayer, reminding us that “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart . . . For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:8, 13). These are com-forting words, and encourage us to ask God for what we need and to aid us in our prayer. Finally, the Gospel of Luke shows us a fasting Jesus, who was tempted as we are, and who knows what it means to be human. Someone once said that temptation arises when you’re tired and weary, and the devil comes along and makes a perfectly reasonable suggestion. Jesus shows us that, with his help, we too can overcome our temptations, reasonable as they may sound.

REST IN GOD’S ETERNAL LOVE & PEACE:

STATIONS OF THE CROSS DURING LENT Dear Ministry Leaders and participants,

As you know, we conduct a Stations of the Cross service every Friday during Lent at 6:30pm in English. We have been doing this for many years, and would like to try something different this year. We would like to offer you and those in your ministry the opportunity to lead one or more of those Friday evening services. The Friday dates are March 15, 22 & 29, April 5 & 12.

Our needs are simple. We are looking for one, two or three people to lead each service. Speaking into a microphone is involved. All materials will be provided. If you would like to be creative and try something new or different, let’s discuss it.

If you would like to lead a service or if you have questions, please send Deacon Phil an email at [email protected]. Feel free to forward this to someone you think may be interested in participating. Thank you in advance. May God bless you and your ministries.

February 25, 2019

D earest Holy Spirit Church Family, With a heavy heart, we announce a change in assignment of our beloved

Father Saul Alba-Infante. This unexpected three way change causes great sadness especially when we do not have time to say farewell. Below is the notification from Msgr. Stephen Doktorczyk, Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia:

Thank you all for your cooperation and understanding ... concerning transfers that are deemed opportune to occur before the normal July 1 date. The urgency is due to various factors, including the unexpected change in the status of some of our priest.. effective Monday, March 4th, 2019.

Fr. Saúl Alba-Infante from Parochial Vicar at Holy Spirit Parish in Fountain Valley to Parochial Vicar at St. Pius the Fifth Parish in Buena Park.

Fr. Wayne Adajar from Parochial Vicar at San Antonio de Padua del Cañon Parish in Anaheim Hills to Parochial Vicar at Holy Spirit Parish in Fountain Valley.

Fr. Venancio L. Amidar from Parochial Vicar at Holy Family Church in Seal Beach to Parochial Vicar at San Antonio de Padua del Cañon Parish in Anaheim Hills.

Know of my prayers and support for all of you during this time of transition.

As a priest, we are called to be selfless and obedient to our Bishop. We thank Father Saul for responding generously to the greater needs of our Diocese. Please join me in thanking him and bidding him farewell. May Jesus, through the intercession of our Lady of Grace, bless and grant Fr. Saul holiness and happiness as he continues to serve God’s people in our Diocese. He will be missed by all. On that note, please join me in welcoming home Father Wayne Adajar. He served as our Parochial Vicar at Holy Spirit Church from 2007-2010. Father Wayne enjoys playing golf and basketball, and he loves adobo. He was an all-star player in our Priests vs. Seminarian basketball game. He was known for his short and precise homily so if you don’t pay close attention, you will miss the gospel message for the week. Welcome back Fr. Wayne.

In Christ Jesus, Reverend Joseph Tran, Administrator
