Thank you to John Mikita, Damiane Muller
and the Transit Graphics team for the outstanding work.
As I said last Sunday, Holy Spirit Parish is so blessed to have so many talented people. In
the age of IT we are blessed to have people who very generously shared their ability for
many years which continues to benefit us all.
Most exciting at this time is the launching of the Holy Spirit ‘Pocket Parish’ App. As Parish
Priest, I wish to congratulate and thank John Mikita for so generously giving so much
time and effort to something the Parish believes will over time be a very positive
investment. Such a professional product could not be made possible financially without
John’s very generous offer. The patience, enthusiasm and continued positive vibes John
has shown from day one not only show cases John expertise in this field, but also
displays a great witness to one who has a dedicated love for his Parish.
Thank you John; the greatest complement we can continue to give you can come in
downloading ‘Pocket Parish’ App onto to
our phones as our simplest and closest way
of keeping up with Parish news!

saint of the week - 23 November
Saint Clement I, Pope and Martyr Clement I died at the end of the first century and is generally recognised as St Peter’s third successor (as bishop of Rome) after St Linus and St Cletus. He is best known for a lengthy letter he wrote to the Church in Corinth about 95 AD, rebuking the Corinthians because they had dismissed their presbyters. Evidently, the factionalism in Corinth that Paul condemned had not died away. Clement’s letter was such a beautiful appeal that in many churches it was read along with the Scriptures. The letter is the first instance we have of the See of Peter
claiming authority over other churches and is one of the earliest texts about the role of bishops and deacons. Clement was martyred during the persecution of Domitian in 97 CE.

CLERGY RETREAT
Fr Mark and Fr Jiss will be away on Clergy retreat from
18 - 22 November. We ask that you pray for them over this time.
Lord, As our Archbishop, Priests and Deacons gather at Galong this coming week we pray that you refresh and renew them in their vocational commitment.
May their hearts be open to the guiding presence of your Holy Spirit, and may they be nourished through prayer and reflection so that they can continue to serve with love the
people of our Archdiocese. We pray this in Jesus’ name.

A gospel Reflection
We began the church year with a gospel much like this one speaking of wars and
calamities but with the reassurance also that ‘when these signs begin to happen,
stand erect and raise your heads because your redemption is at hand’.
Again Jesus gives us comfort in the middle of prophecies of wars, earthquakes,
famines, and plaques when, in today’s gospel, he tells the disciples, ‘Do not be
terrified.’ Although the material world may be passing away, there is a firm
foundation underfoot, the compassionate care of God the Father, Son, and the Holy
Spirit.

One Sunday at Mass as the priest was giving his homily, a little baby in the front row suddenly started crying loudly. The mother did her best to pacify the child but nothing worked. So finally she got up and started to walk down the aisle to take the baby into the cry room. The priest stopped his preaching, and very compassionately called out to the mother, "That's OK! You don't have to leave. The child isn't disturbing me." The young woman turned around and said, "No, pardon me Father, but you're disturbing my child!"
Let God Tell You Who You Are!
‘His mother called his name Jabez.’ 1 Chronicles 4:9 NKJV
The name Jabez means ‘pain and trouble’. Can you imagine walking into
a room and hearing someone say, ‘Here comes trouble,’ or someone
describing you as ‘a pain’? And what’s more, his mother labelled Jabez
that way the day he was born because she ‘gave birth to him in pain.’ (1
Chronicles 4:9 NIV)
But Jabez refused to let that name define him. Instead of looking back
at his past and listening to his critics, he turned to God and prayed:
‘“Oh, that You would bless me indeed and enlarge my border, and that
Your hand might be with me, and that You would keep me from harm,
that it might not pain me!” And God granted him what he requested.’
The label on the outside of a bottle tells you what’s on the inside. And
when you let others label you, invariably they make your world too
small. And once you accept the label they place on you, you start to
believe that’s who you are and that you’ll never amount to anything
more than that. No, only God can tell you who you are! So do what
Jabez did—go directly to the source: God. He created you. He
redeemed you. He calls you. He equips you. He empowers you. He
rewards you.
So when people try to limit you by putting labels on you, God steps in
and says, ‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your
name; you are Mine.’ (Isaiah 43:1 NKJV) The truth is that God loves and
accepts you, and His approval trumps everybody else’s disapproval!
