QUESTION OF THE WEEK: What is my mission? What is God calling me to do? How

can I fulfill my mission?

Three figures in today’s reading choose to place their trust in God, each after appear-

ing reluctant to do so. Ahaz, the king of Judah, disingenuously protests his unworthi-

ness in making a request of the LORD when actually he fears that he will need to ac-

cept the sign. Paul now calls himself “a slave of Christ Jesus,” but had formerly per-

secuted Christians (Romans 1:1). Finally, Joseph was ready to divorce Mary until the

angel of the Lord counseled him otherwise. Each chose to place his trust in God

once God gave him a sign. As God is truly with us, do we have faith in the signs God

gives us?

Sometimes the opposite of faith is fear. Judah feared its hostile neighbors and Ahaz

feared he would lose his power. Mary was found with child and Joseph feared a mar-

riage to an unfaithful wife. Each overcame their fear through faith in God’s promises.

Through the angel Gabriel, God revealed Mary’s mission to her. She was to bear the

Son of God: Jesus, the Messiah. Mary consented, “May it be done to me according to

your word” (Luke 1:38). Through the angel of the Lord, God revealed Joseph's mis-

sion to him. He was to take Mary into his home. Joseph “did as the angel of the Lord

commanded him and took his wife into his home” (Matthew 1:24). Jesus had a mis-

sion as well, revealed in his very name: to save the people from their sins. Like Mary

and Joseph, Jesus accepted his mission. For this, we are filled with joy.

Earth, Good Will Toward Men.”

BECOMING THE BEST DISCIPLE:

The quote for this week that also appears on the

whiteboard in the entry of the church is:

“Unto us a child is born

A Savior Christ the Lord.”

Take time this week to sit quietly, or perhaps as you

drive to your destination, to reflect on that question.

REMEMBER TO LISTEN FOR GOD’S RESPONSE.

K-6th grades: 4:15-5:30

7-12 grades: 7-8 p.m.

Classes will resume January 8. Have a blessed Christmas

season.

The SPCW would like to thank everyone who brought

cookies to this year’s Cookie Walk. Also thank you to

those who worked and those who came to the Cook-

ie Walk making it, once again, a success. As always,

it is very much appreciated.

December 10, 2019 Corpus Christi Council Minutes

The CCC meeting was held Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019 at the Holy Trinity church hall with Father David, Jean M., Bob B.,

Scott H., Lynda B., Joe R., and Alice L. in attendance. The meeting was called to order by Bob B. at 7:00 p.m. and Fa-

ther David lead us with the Our Father. Bob reported that the web site updating was still in process. Jean moved and

Joe seconded the minutes were approved as written. Member read them on-line. In the future, paper copies are no

longer needed to be brought to the meeting, emails are sufficient.. —The accessibility study was first on the agenda:

Jean said she has talked with Judy and a lot of talk of fixes is going on just need to get things going like bars in the

bathroom etc., sidewalk is fixed to the south and two more handicapped signs were put in, we discussed if they would

want the parking made blue but decided against as street is rocked. —St. Patrick’s church restrooms are not handi-

capped accessible in the men’s room so it was decided to put a unisex handicapped sign on the women’s restroom

for women and both genders of handicapped guests. Men not handicapped would still use the men’s room. It was

also suggested we have a diaper station installed in the ladies restrooms at the church and the parish center, this will

solve two requirements on the survey. Other items discussed was installing an elevator, bathroom upstairs in the

church and a chair lift on the steps no action was taken on these. —Grounds keeping update: Mathisen’s got the

trees removed and trimmed, sidewalk will be done this spring. Jimmy Gomez will be taking care of snow removal this

year and Scott Hansen will be doing the skid loader parking snow removal. Exira was not sure but thought all was

same as last year.

JANUARY 26, 2020 will be our next parish event. Mass will be cancelled in Exira on this Sunday and we will all meet

for mass in Audubon at 10:30 after mass we will go to the parish center for a potluck dinner. Chicken and smoked

pork will be provided as well as tableware and drinks, others attending will be asked to bring side dishes such as veg-

gies, salads, desserts etc. There will be a signup sheet in the back of both parishes so we have some idea as to how

much food to order. After our meal Father David will be giving a presentation on his homeland. Paul Thomas has

agreed to help Father with his power point show. The youth will also be helping with the mass. Please watch the bul-

letin for details.

Future events discussed include a bowling and pizza family night at the REC in Audubon sometime in February or

March. A family softball game night sometime this summer in Exira. —January we will be putting out Time and Talent

sheets to make sure all that want to be helping and participating at church are accounted for. Everyone will be asked

to fill one out during mass at both parishes. —New business: Jean reported that Benediction Mass in Exira is going

well. Father would like to see one Wednesday of the month instead of Religious Education class the kids plan and

participate in the Mass of that night. All students would sit with their class and Father would take the opportunity to

explain different parts of the Mass each month. He would like to see the kids more involved and hope to enhance

their faith formation.

Group sharing: Holy Trinity soup supper is coming up on Sunday January 12th. Father will be having eye surgery on

Thursday 12/ 12 in Omaha. Father is pleased with how home visits are going, he will continue when the weather is

better. Some of the group attended the Our Saviour’s community choir night on the first Sunday of Advent and said it

was an awesome evening of beautiful music and great food.

Joe motioned and Lynda seconded meeting adjourned at 8:18. Father finished the meeting with prayer.

The CCC invites your feedback please contact any of us and we will take your concerns back to the group. Father Da-

vid, Bob Blomme, Jean Madsen, Scott Hansen, Lynda Best, Joe Rasmussen and Alice Lauridsen.
