Wayside Youth News
We are currently in the holy season of Lent. We use the season of Lent to prepare,
reflect on ourselves, and repent. Many Christians “give up” something for Lent, helping
us rid ourselves of distractions and our own selfish desires. Others decide instead to
take on something new, like daily devotions, prayer time, or even “purging” their
homes and closets of the excess “stuff” we all seem to build up. By participating in
these Lenten practices, we are trying to live and love as more faithful disciples of Jesus.
“Misfits Series”
Being a teenager today is not easy. It has never been easy. However, in the modern
day of social media, it is harder than ever. The media seems to have more influence
on young people than parents and other Christian adults, especially when it comes to
Christianity and Christian morals.
Most teenagers want to “fit in”. It can be extremely hard to be a Christian and hold
those values in a world that reject’s them.
Just as it was difficult in Bible times to be a Christian, it is difficult now. It was so hard to
be a Christian, that one of Jesus’ followers, a close friend, sold him out. Jesus was
crucified for many reasons, but also because it was HARD to be a MISFIT.
In this series, based on the scripture from the Message Bible--1st Corinthians 4:10: “We
are the Messiah’s misfits”; we will learn that it is OKAY to be a misfit. We were not put on
this earth to fit in. We were put here to further the Kingdom of God, to be not of this
world, and to be a misfit.
We will use this time to read relevant scripture and come up with tools to help us walk
through the teenage years keeping Jesus first.
This series begins on March 6th and will end during Youth Sunday, April 10th.
Speaking of Youth Sunday, we will be having a rehearsal for that Sunday on Saturday,
April 9th at 3pm.
After worship on Youth Sunday, April 10th, we will be having a fundraiser lunch to begin
fundraising for our Mission Trip to Cuba.

Thank You!
I was so humbled to be the recipient of the Marie Graves award. We are serving the
children who need God’s help to make their lives better. You, the family of Wayside,
are God’s hands in this mission! It was a lovely evening that will live in my most
precious of memories. Thank you for all who came and those who spoke. I am truly
grateful for such an outpouring of love!

Safety Corner for March 2016
Slips, Trips, and Falls
Reminder: Winter is still here, so take the precautions listed below.
Reduce Wet or Slippery Surfaces:
Beware of liquids where you walk, especially in rainy or snowy weather.
Sidewalks and the lack of sidewalks. (If at all possible clean your sidewalks so it can reduce the risk of someone falling.)
Rocky Terrain Floors in general
Avoid creating obstacles in aisles and walkways: Injuries can result from trips caused by clutter in walking areas, entrance ways, and
stairwells. Keep workshop areas, passageways, and other areas of your home clean and orderly. Avoid stringing power cords, TV/internet cables, or other items in normal passage
ways. Conduct periodic inspections for slips, and trip hazards. (Throw rugs, etc.)
Maintain proper lighting in all areas of your home, inside and out. Keep areas around the light switches clear and accessible.
Repair fixtures, switches, and cords immediately if they malfunction. Wear proper Footwear:
The footwear we wear can play a big part in preventing spills. Soles that are slick will not give you proper traction needed to prevent a slip or fall.
Shoe laces need to be the proper length for the type of footwear you wear and need to be properly tied.
Wear appropriate footwear for the task you are doing. Take your time, look ahead and down while walking.
Be alert to your surroundings.

Four Leaf Clover
A Nature Parable by Preacher Dan Gault
Have you ever been on your knees looking for
a four leaf clover? Most white clover has three
leaves. Once in a while you find a four leaf
clover. Some people believe that finding a
four leaf clover is good luck, but - finding a five
leaf clover brings bad luck!
The dictionary tells us that “luck” is: fate, good
fortune, or something that happens to a person
by chance.
Should the Christian rely on luck or chance?
The Bible tells us that we “live by faith”, in
1 Corinthians 5:7, Faith is not luck. We should
be on our knees praying to God, not looking for
luck.
“I am not ashamed, because I know whom I
have believed and am convinced that He is
able to guard what I have entrusted to Him for
that day. ~2 Timothy 1:12

A Lenten Message
During this season of Lent, meditate on the words of Jesus. When he was on the cross
He said, “It is Finished.” (John 19:30). Enter into a deeper relationship with Jesus as you
immerse yourself in His amazing Grace and Love.
“God made us alive with Christ, for He forgave all our sins.” (Colossians 2:13) What
Jesus wants for us is to receive afresh His forgiveness and His gift of righteousness.
Come boldly to Jesus, enjoy His presence and draw on His strength and wisdom each
day. We will find Jesus living the overcoming life in and through us by His Spirit
because Christ in us is our hope of Glory.
