Calendar of IntercessionsPassiontide to Trinity 2015
Welcome to the this edition of the prayer diary, which takes us through to Trinity Sunday. It’s a shorter edition that the last, as I shift the pattern from one relating to calendar months into one based on the Church’s year. I’ve also, on request, added the names of the incumbents of parishes – accurate at the time of print.
Sunday entries are designed to look at some of the bigger pictures in our diocese – sometimes geographical (deaneries, archdeaconries, link dioceses) sometimes issues or activities (spirituality network, beginning of Lent). These are followed through the week by daily prayers from all over the diocese. You’ll notice the band of colour down the side changes through the year, as we move through the seasons of the Church. In the Sunday entries I have included a lectionary suggestion. This is not always exhaustive, but gives a starting place.
Some days have a name below them. These are the names of people down the centuries who are champions of the faith and who we remember on these days. Occasionally days will have the note ‘ember day’ – these are days set aside by the church to pray for vocations, for labourers at the harvest. The Anglican Communion encompasses a rich array of countries (165!) and cultures. This Anglican Diary enables us to feel connected in prayer to Archbishops, Bishops and our fellow Christians all over the globe. The Porvoo cycle of prayer, listed on Sundays, connects us to that body of Christians across Europe with whom the Church of England is in full Communion. Finally, we’ve left space in the daily entries for you to note any prayer requests that have been made to you or your parish, or any special interests you want to remember in your prayers.
Please contact Lindsay with any comments or suggestions – [email protected] or 01634 814439. She will also be pleased to provide large print copies to any who would find that helpful.

Holy WeekThe events of the last days of Jesus’ life form the core of the Gospel narratives and the whole of our faith. By walking with Our Lord from the Joyful Entry through the events of the Last Supper and on into the arrest, death and resurrection of Jesus we can enter deeply into the mysteries of his giving of himself, and of the restoration of the Children of God.By their nature, then, these days can be highly emotive, especially for communities where tensions run high – hence the prayers of the Anglican Communion for the peace of Jerusalem. Pray that our participation in these holy days may be solemn and joyful, without recrimination or defensiveness.Pray for our relationships with people of other faiths, particularly our sister Abrahamic faiths, that by our love we may witness to that greater love.

Easter DayIsaiah 25.6-9Psalm 118.1-2, 14-24Acts 10.34-43John 20.1-18
We have walked with our Lord through the days of his Passion. We have placed ourselves into that story – the pain of betrayal, the injustice of a fixed trial, the humiliation of mockery, the jeers of the crowd, the agony of nails, the loneliness of abandonment, the silence of death, the darkness of the tomb. We have waited by that tomb, and now we emerge into the brightness of Easter Day.
Today we shout ‘Alleluia’ and we give thanks:- That Life and Light are never quenched;- That fear and death cannot enslave us;- That hope is renewed for all creation;- That life renewed is offered to all;- That forgiveness flows for all who would turn;- That injustice and pain are transformed and healed.
And today we pray:- That the living Lord Jesus walk with us each day;- That lives be transformed through the life-giving power of
God;- That we show forth God’s love in word and deed;- That the face of creation be renewed by the grace of God;- That we be united with all who proclaim the resurrection of
Jesus;- That our lives take the shape of the risen Christ.
Lord of all life and power, who through the mighty resurrection of your Sonovercame the old order of sin and deathto make all things new in him:grant that we, being dead to sinand alive to you in Jesus Christ, may reign with him in glory;Prayer Requests:

Rochester ArchdeaconryThere has been a spate of vacancies in Medway in the last year which have proven difficult to fill, but we are grateful to God for good progress at the start of 2015. Please pray for the new incumbents moving into Medway and for God’s provision for places still in a vacancy, especially the benefice of Frindsbury with Upnor and Chattenden.
Building has already begun on the Ebbsfleet Garden City, which will transform the shape of the Archdeaconry, adding tens of thousands of new occupants to the Gravesend area. Please pray for wisdom and discernment in how to engage with this and other potential new developments like Lodge Hill near Strood, that we may build good relationships and forge a fruitful and lasting ministry.
We are thinking through how to refresh our engagement with Chatham town centre and ask specifically for vision to guide us in making assured, lasting decisions.
Please pray also for the Bishop of Rochester Academy as it seeks a new Principal to lead it later in 2015.

Challenging PovertyChristians are already in relationship with the poor because they are in relationship with Jesus Christ who identifies himself with the poor. Poverty can have devastating effects on human life and flourishing, but at the same time, some choose poverty as part of their spiritual journey for the blessing Jesus promises. Pray for those parishes and schools working to relieve poverty, and give thanks for the blessings and joy brought through these relationships. Pray that we will be enriched through this work, as well as drawing people towards life in all its fullness.

Rochester Deanery Our deanery has a rich historic and literary heritage and this is celebrated with events such as the Dickens Festival. The deanery is, in the main, densely populated and includes extensive areas of housing estates, some of which are Victorian. In fact of our parishes is the poorest in the diocese, so the effects of social deprivation are never far from our church doors. This presents particular challenges for some of our churches but also gives us the opportunity to reach out and meet needs. A good example of this is the Magpie Centre. Please pray for this venture as plans come to fruition. We also have prisons and the Wisdom Hospice is situated in our deanery. Prayer is needed for the Prison Chaplains and those who are imprisoned. Prayers too for all at the hospice, the patients, staff, volunteers and those local clergy who minister there on a regular basis. We celebrate the appointment of two new incumbents who are soon to join the deanery. They are Joel Love (Rochester Parish) and Barry Linney (St. Stephen's). Pray for them as they move into the area and begin the next stage of their ministries.Pray for Mission in Chatham Town Centre, where there is a Bishop's Mission Order planned.
