The World Expo provides a platform for the global community to share ideas, innovations and technologies with a strong connection to the Sustainable Development Goals. The theme of the Expo 2020 Dubai is ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’, a concept that is built around three pillars of ‘Mobility’, ‘Sustainability’, and ‘Opportunity’.

The Expo is a chance to work together to build on the important growing global consensus regarding the Sustainable Development Goals. These goals create a framework for a more effective way of partnering to create a better future. Through solutions that bring together governments, businesses and knowledge institutions alike.

The Dutch pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai - located in the thematic Sustainability District - is an opportunity to showcase the innovative and sustainable solutions the Netherlands can provide in the areas of water, energy and food and specifically the links that connect them.

Dutch participationIn 2018 the Netherlands’ exports of goods and services to the Gulf region amounted to more than €14 billion, and imports to €7.7 billion. UAE companies have shown a growing interest in exploring opportunities in the Netherlands.

Economic ties between the Netherlands, the UAE, and the rest of the Gulf region are strong. One in which trade and scientific exchange have always played an important role.

Expo 2020 Dubai offers exciting opportunities to deepen these longstanding ties. To help drive positive change, and to showcase innovative solutions integrating water, energy and food. Therefore, in February 2017, the Dutch government decided that the Netherlands will take part in the World Expo 2020 Dubai.

Ecological footprintConstruction materials will be rented locally, eliminating the need to produce in the region or ship them from Europe. The interior, too, will consist only of rented materials. When the pavilion is dismantled, all materials will be returned or repurposed at a new destination in the UAE, so as to minimise its ecological footprint. Circular climate systemThe Dutch pavilion features a circular climate system – a biotope, essentially – which provides visitors (tourists and businesspeople alike) with an intense sensory experience. The pavilion’s unique design gives visitors a powerful sense of the connection between water, energy and food. The Netherlands is also setting a sustainable example in terms of the building itself.

The business lounge of the Dutch Pavilion has a multi-functional setup to cater the different needs of a variety of guests. Do you want to bring your clients or partners to a unique place for a meeting? Come to our pavilion, we will guide you through our spectacular biotope and its show areas. Afterwards, you can either have a more informal meeting in our business lounge or make use of our curved board room where more formal meetings can take place for a maximum of 16 people.

Expo is about celebration! And that’s where the Dutch come in. It is therefore of course possible to celebrate your successes in a more informal and joyful way after regular opening ours. After the pavilion closes its doors for regular visitors at 22PM, the business lounge and post-show area will be transformed into the ‘Dutch Dance Pavilion!’
