Aim
There are two aims of the our project
To wirelessly control any of the AC appliances in a home , granting an easy access to the user with the help of smartphones.
A continous energy efficient control.
Objective
To develop energy and cost effective smart homes with
manual control from Android smartphones.
Introduction
With the promotion of Android as a Smart Phone Operating System by Google Inc, SmartPhones are becoming more and more popular around the world.
SmartPhones are more than just Phones, they’re now the main Human Interaction Devices and users thus want to control/accomplish most of their tasks from their Smart Phones rather than conventional ways.
Energy prices are rising every, instead of creating energy we can focus on their efficient utilization.
Smart Phone Microcontroller Boards Arduino Board :-Arduino is an open source computing platform based on a simple input/output board and a development environment that implements the Processing Language. A Bluetooth module connected to the Microcontroller board. Xbee modules. The triacs and optocouplers that drive the electrical appliances. A 16x2 char LCD display. A Real Time Clock (DS1307). A Temperature sensor (LM35) A Light Dependent Resistor.
Hardware Requirements
• Zigbee is a cost effective, power efficient , slow rate and an easy to
learn and use standard adopted widely. Xbee by Digi based on zigbee
further simplifies the task of wireless transmission.
• Arduino can be easily interfaced with xbee, also the Arduino
Programming language is easy to learn and use.
• Android is the world’s most widely used smartphone OS and can be
easliy moulded for various application. It being an open source OS, we
can easliy develop apps for it.
Why Zigbee??.. Why Arduino??..Why Andorid??
Methodology
1. The appliances can be controlled by sending either by speaking to the voice recognition system or can be controlled by using the application developed for android.
2. The data is sent to the microcontroller by bluetooth inbuit in the mobile phone. The bluetooth module recieves this and gives it to the microcontroller.
3. The microcontroller then sends this data to the recieving mircocontroller by using xbee wireless modules. The microcontroller at the appliance side processes it and take the corresponding action.
4. For continous energy efficiency the recieving microcontroller also has various sensors attached to it. The data from these sensors is used to controll the appliances for reducing power consumption.
APPLICATION
To wireless control any of the domestic appliances in our homes.
Can be extended to industries for intelligent control.
Can be used for wireless irrigation control.
Can be used to minimize the power consumption.
Increased individual safety due to the use of wireless technology.
future Scope Implement measures for home security.
Energy efficiency can be improved by use of Digital Image Recognition Techniques.
Gesture based wireless control.
Upgrading the connectivity to Ethernet.
