When I open HomeCOST Estimator, why does a menu called "HomeCOST" appear in Excel's menu bar?
In order to make our system as easy to use as possible, we added functions to the familiar existing interface, namely the Excel menu bar. The HomeCOST menu item shall be there only when you are using the HomeCost.xls file. When you leave, it will disappear from the Excel menu bar.
Click on "Create New Estimate" from Excel's HomeCOST menu. This will activate the HomeCOST wizard.
When you select your city from the "City" page of the wizard, HomeCOST will apply th city index (factor) to the construction costs.
Open the "City" worksheet by clicking on the tab. Then edit the index (factor). Use only numerics.
Select a city that you believe is close in terms of costs. Alternatively, you can edit an existing entry or add your city to the list (See below).
Insert a blank row where your city should appear. Then, add the information. Use a factor similar to a comparable city (See HomeCOST Help for more on adding data to lists).
How can I add and customize data in HomeCOST data sheets?
To add, insert a blank row where your data should appear. To edit, simply change the data by overwriting it (See HomeCOST Help for more on adding data to lists).
Click on "Show HomeCOST Help" from Excel's HomeCOST menu. You can also email CPR International, Inc. at [email protected] for your questions.
These are additional items that can be incorporated in the estimate. You can make multiple selections.
These are upgraded features from standard features that are already in the estimate. Therefore, upgrade prices are add-on differentials (and sometimes deductions indicating downgrades).
These are the average costs for the indicated work product. Starting from these, HomeCOST Estimator develops total costs depending on your wizard selections.
What are Building and Basement worksheet entries?
Construction costs vary depending on the size of a building. HomeCOST uses factors that are applicable for different floor areas.
When you click on the "Finish" button of the wizard, HomeCOST estimator will automatically create the estimate report.
Why did the report appear in a different Excel file?
HomeCOST creates the report in a new Excel file so that you can save the report in a different name.
Why are additional item quantities are indicated as 1(one) in the report?
Because HomeCOST does not know your takeoff quantities. These are highlighted green in the report. It is important to edit each additional item entry and change the quantity to the correct amount.
Yes, you can. However, because there are built-in formulas, be careful not to erase or overwrite them.
How can I print the estimate report? Simply use Excel's File > Print function.

After creating the report, can I change the parameters?
You can change areas, but not the qualitative parameters such as Quality of Construction, etc. To do that, you have to run the HomeCOST Wizard again.
After the estimate report is created, how can I go back to HomeCOST Estimator file?
(For Trial edition of HomeCOST Estimator only) Click on HomeCOST menu then click on "Enter Authorization Code" submenu. Enter the code provided.
The system will cease to function. Even if you download the trial version again, it will not function.
(For Trial version of HomeCOST Estimator only or to register additional copies) Click on "Register Online" submenu From Excel's HomeCOST menu. Make sure that you have an Internet connection available. Using a credit card, make the payment and immediately download the registered edition from the Register Now site.
(For Trial edition of HomeCOST Estimator only or to register additional copies) Click on the OrderForm tab to open the Order worksheet. Fill out, print and mail with a check or Money Order. When received, we will call or email your Authorization Code.

I'm using the Trial version successfully. Why should I pay to register HomeCOST Estimator anyway?
The Trial edition works for 7 days after which it will be disabled. At any time, you can purchase the Authorization Code which will remove the time limitation.
