WHY ARE PEOPLE HOMELESS?

The reason people become homeless is varied. The most common is financial difficulty and lack of affordable housing, but other reasons include:

Adult or children escaping domestic violenceLoss of primary incomeEvictionMental illnessNatural disasterHome foreclosure

Who Are The Homeless?

A person is considered homeless if they “lack a fixed, regular, and adequate night time residence.” These types of people are varied:

• 38% are families• 23% are former members of the U.S. military• 25% are children under the age of 18• 30% are victims of domestic violence• As much as 20%-25% suffered from domestic violence • 62% are members of a minority group
