mHealth: Niger NICe Project (Niger Integrated Child Health Services), in collaboration with the Niger Ministry of Health, is rolling out an integrated Community Case Management (iCCM) program among rural community health workers (CHWs) in Niger, West Africa. This WHO-funded mHealth solution will be deployed to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the iCCM program and provide CHWs with a supportive guidance tool for their newly learned curative roles. The solution will lead CHWs through a diagnosis and decision making process using response- triggered decision tree algorithms to ensure adherence to standardized protocols, improving diagnosis and treatment outcomes. Automated referral initiation and tracking will be built in to facilitate transfer between community and health facilities. Automatic reminders will be scheduled for child follow-up to alert CHWs to take action at the critical follow-up times. Multimedia will be integrated for targeted counseling to improve caregiver behaviors and improve adherence to treatment. Data collected will be used for real-time monitoring through automatic generation of reports, reminders, and alerts to supervisors and supply chain (for inventory management and stock alters). mHealth: Niger

NICe Project will provide prompt and appropriate treatment closer to households, expanding the access to antibiotics, anti-malarials, and oral rehydration salts (ORS) plus zinc with the aim of reducing child mortality of children 2-59 months old in Dogondoutchi, Dosso, Boboye, and Keita medical districts of Niger.

GIS functionality will be incorporated to capture GPS coordinates to support the ability to track the field movement of CHWs and visually allow WV and the MOH to understand areas being serviced and those that need more attention. The data collected will allow the mapping of health related vulnerability through heat map analytics. It is the intention that the translation of the GPS points for full geospatial analysis will be addressed starting in Year 3 of the program, considering the cost-effectiveness of the approach with an eye on sustainability beyond the lifecycle of the project.
