What You in the WORD Was the Flood Global? The Genesis Flood was global—the mountains were covered, the Ark was huge, and fossils are found all over the earth. Consider the following: God said it covered the whole world in Genesis 7—it “prevailed” over the earth. God said all the mountains were covered; how could that happen in a local flood? Noah would not have had to build an Ark at all, much less the one the size of this one; he could have just walked away. e animals and birds would have fled from Noah (to escape the coming flood), not come to him. e rock layers we see today are the result of a catastrophic Flood over the entire world. e Flood provided perfect conditions for animals and plants to be killed and quickly covered in order to become fossils. Fossils are found all around the world. e covenant God made promises that there will never be another global flood. It would not make sense if that meant local floods. But there are still more than 200 stories about a global flood recorded all over the world. ese stories are all very much like what the Bible tells us about the Flood of Noah’s day. So, I’m thinking, if there was never a global Flood, where would these sto- ries have come from? And why would they all be similar? Suppose you are watching TV with some friends and you hear that there have never been any global fl oods—it just wouldn’t be possible. What would you say?

I don’t think that is right! I believe the Bible. It talks a lot about Noah’s Flood and God tells us that all the air-breathing animals and people who were not on the Ark were killed by the global Flood. The Bible says that the waters covered the hills and the mountains at the time and the Flood lasted over a year. It was not just a local fl ood—and it really did happen!
