• On-Line Math Help available for Grades 7-10 students taking Mathematics in our Board.

• Partnership of the Independent Learning Centre (ILC), the Ministry of Education, and the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board

• Began in 2007-08 as pilot project in two Hamilton boards

• Thirty-one English-language district school boards are now involved

• What is the Independent Learning Centre (ILC)?o The ILC is an educational organization run through TV Ontario and is

designated as an official distance education provider by the Ontario Ministry of Education

• Will the ILC have access to a student’s personal information?o NO. Individual students and/or school boards will not be identified to

the ILC. After students register, they will be known to the ILC as their Username and Password only

• Who are the tutors who will be assisting students?o The tutors are Ontario certified mathematics teachers from the 32

school boards that are participating in the Homework Help project.

• Where can one obtain a student’s OEN number?o The OEN is on the student’s timetableo It is NOT their student numbero Can also obtain from Guidance Department or Teacher

• Why would a student go to Homework Help when they could just “Google” it?o Homework Help provides a safe, reliable resource

provided by the ILC, through the Ministry of Education, with Ontario teachers.

o Each student keeps recorded chat session in own locker

• Is it safe to give one’s e-mail address?o Absolutely, this is a completely safe and secure

environment. The ILC uses the same security platform as the banking industry.

o The benefit of giving one’s e-mail address is that Homework Help will be able to:• Assist in retrieving username or password• Inform students about key times during the

school year, exams, EQAO, and upcoming events.
