    The diesel C R-V stands head and shoulders above the

    com petition in the key area for corporate custom ers running

    costs and BIK liability. If the plan w orks, it will certainly m ake

    the C R-V the U Ks best-selling 4x4.

    So sm ooth is this new engine, driving the H onda is like surfing

    on a w ave of double cream . At idle its virtually silent and utterly

    vibration free.

    hated diesels. H ated them so m uch he w anted

    to sw ap all the b ad features for good one s.

    H e w anted som ething very po w erful. Yet very

    qu iet. And very clean . Truth is, he w anted to

    create a co m pletely new type of diesel, w ith

    perform ance to m atch. Sm ooth and refined

    B uilding on ou r exp ertise pioneering our i-VTEC

    engine, w e use d a revo lutionary sem i-solid

    casting techn iqu e to create an alum inium

    2.2 litre turbo d iesel engine. The casting proc ess

    i-CTD i diesel. W ith our revolution ary sem i-solid casting process

    w eve created a 2.2 litre alum inium turbo d iesel engine that is ligh t

    and super strong. And very pow erful.

    The i-CTD is class-lead ing 4 2.2 m pg (com bined cycle m anu al)

    m akes it superb for high-m ileage drivers. It also delivers an equally

    class-lead ing 3 40 N m of m axim um torque at just 2,000 rpm .

    VS A, wh ich com es standard on E xecutive

    tim es: accelerating, cornering or avoiding

    haza rds. If a w hee l skids, VS A ap plies

    brakeforce to the w hee l and redu ces

    en gine po w er until traction is regained.

    O versteer or un dersteer, VS A

    autom atically corrects you r steering .

    So you alw ays stay on course.

    Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)

    So m etim es you need to brake hard in

    an em ergency. If you d o, AB S stops

    you go ing into a skid. Even at high

    spee ds on w et, icy o r loose surfaces.

    The system gently pum ps the brakes,

    so you r w hee ls d ont lock. G iving you

    total control w hen you n eed it m ost.

    ISOFix

    C hildren are a p riority for you and u s.

    ISO Fix child-seat fixings are acknow ledged

    to be the safest in the w orld. Th ats w hy

    w e fitted them in the C R -V. The system

    has m ountings co nnected to the chassis

    at the co re of the C R -V. The se easy-

    to-reach con nections m ake the system

    extrem ely strong and secure. And ve ry

    sim ple to use.

    Electronic Brakeforce

    Distribution (EBD)

    C arry a hea vy load lugg age o r

    passeng ers and your brakes need

    ad ditional help to com pensate for the

    extra w eight. EB D w orks w ith A B S to

    assess how m uch w eight is needed

    throughout the CR-V. Then it autom atically

    adjusts the b rakeforce applied to front

    and rear w heels. Delivering m axim um

    brake pow er w here you need it m ost.

    Airbag

    Th e C R -Vs m ultiple airbags g ive

    Se nsors deploy curtain airbag s on b oth

    sides of the C R-V in the un likely event

    Torque Torque is a twisting or

    rotational force. For exam ple, w hen you

    use a spanner to tighten a bolt, you are

    actually ap plying torqu e to turn the bo lt.

    The further out you hold the spanner, the

    m ore torque you apply. Low rev torque is

    the ab ility of an engine to develop strong

    respo nse (rotational force), and hence,

    acceleration from low er revs and speeds.

    As sp eed rises, torque b eco m es less

    im po rtant than po w er for m aintaining

    high speeds.

    Variable turbocharger Turbochargers

    use rotors to p ressurise the air going

    into the cylind ers. This increases the airs

    oxyg en de nsity, im proving co m bu stion

    and producing m ore po w er.

    Th e turbocharger fitted to the i-C TD i

    engine has variable no zzles, which b oost

    the airflow acco rding to how hard you

    press the accelerator the m ore you p ut

    your foo t dow n, the m ore the a irflow

    is increased . This produ ces instant,

    sm oo th acceleration , virtually elim inating

    the problem of turbo lag.

    Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA)

    Vehicle S tability Assist helps you m aintain

    co ntrol du ring cornering , acceleration

    Variable Timing Control (VTC)

    changes in your speed to optim ise airflow

    efficiently at all tim es. A s you inc rease

    spe ed, VT C lets the engine su ck in air

    m ore q uickly. This m ean s the cylind ers

    air/fuel m ix is op tim ised for im proved

    torque and perform ance, with 90 % of

    torqu e available at just 3,000 rpm .

    Variable Valve Timing and Lift

    Electronic Control (VTEC)

    Variab le Valve Tim ing and Lift Electron ic

    C ontrol varies the am ou nt of valve lift

    and the duration of valve opening during

    the intake stroke of each eng ine cylinder.

    The effect is op tim ised com bustion over

    changing engine speeds w ith the result

    of redu ced fuel con sum ption an d

    em issions as w ell as increased engine

    perform ance.

    eng ines have a reservoir of high ly

    pressu rised fuel close to the cylind er

    form s a finer m ist, so burns m ore

    efficiently. Th is m ake s the engine m ore

    Drive-by-Wire The a dd ition of drive-

    by-w ire throttle across the range ensures

    a sm oother and m ore instantaneous

    resp onse to acceleration pedal inputs,

    particularly w hen the C R -V is pu lling

    aw ay from standstill.

    Electronic Brake-force Distribution

    (EBD)Electronic Brake-force D istribution

    w orks in tandem w ith A B S, analysing

    w eightd istribu tion around the car and

    autom atically adjusting the braking force

    applied to front and rear w hee ls.

    Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR)

    op eration of the C R -Vs seatbelts in

    Autom atic S eat Belt. It is a system

    Stand ards O rganisation Fix. It is the new

    standa rd for installing child seats into a

    car. ISO Fix is a system w hich w eve fitted

    as stand ard to the tw o outer rear seats.

    It creates a rigid link between the child

    seat and the car to provide extra so lidity

    in the e vent of an em ergency.

    An a dd ition al bene fit is the ease and

    speed w ith which an ISO Fix seat can be

    fitted into the C R -V.

    Power Pow er is a m easurem ent of

    how fast work can be done.

    Roll-Over Sensor In the unlikely event

    of a rollover specially design ed sensors

    can he lp m inim ise dam age a nd injury

    by activating the oc cupant protection

    system s. The curtain airbags w ill deploy

    if the system detects that the car is rolling

    over sidew ays.

    Supplemental Restraint Systems

    (SRS)Airbag s are know n as the

    Su pplem ental Re straint System s (SRS )

    and are not a substitute for the use of

    seatbelts. In an im pact, sensors in the

    vehicle detect the sudden deceleration.

    If the crash is severe enou gh electricity

    flow s to the inflator and causes ign ition

    of the gas ge nerator. Th e inflating airbag

    splits open the trim cover. The airbag

    then rapidly un folds and inflates in front

    of the occupant. These steps take p lace

    in a fraction of a second.
