PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS:Kim Davis, Jesse Perez, both of the City of Hondo

Attendance: 18 Rotarians, Guests were County Judge Chris Schuchart, Debra Cook & Angie Bendele w/Angel’s Crossing, Steven Santana w/MV Times, Erik Remmert w/SGRR; Speaker Rep. Andrew Murr and staff Kel-lie Early, Regan Elmer & Brooke Bohlen; prospective members Kim Davis, Jessie Perez.Diane reminded everyone of a ribbon cutting this afternoon, and, of the Bluebonnet CAC golf tournament this weekend; Jean, as Chair of our Club’s Golf Tournament, announced the tournament to be held October 3.Committee Service Co-Chair Cynthia Prieto invited Ms. Bendele & Ms. Cook of Angel’s Crossing forward to accept a Club check in the amount of $150; the donation will assist in the purchase of 180 backpacks for foster children.State Rep. from District 53 Andrew Murr was introduced by Bob Peden who gave an extensive bio (can be found on house.state.tx.us/members), noting that Rep. Murr belongs to various clubs, including Junction Rotary Club. Murr gave a summary of what had transpired with the Texas Legislature, noting there are 181 members who meet for 140 days, Jan.-June every odd year, and during that time for the current session 11,356 bills had been filed, with 21% going to the governor’s desk to become law. On a personal basis, he gets to the office early in order to study, make phone calls, ask questions & do research, and wel-comes questions, comments & advice. He spoke of education, highway fund-ing, veterans (Hazlewood Act), border security, appraisal values ramping up in larger cities and potential effect to rural areas, oil and gas slowdown, the federal water act, and elaborated on the bills he has sponsored and/or co-sponsored (listed on his site) and their effect on Texans. For info regarding the Nov. 3rd 2015 Constitutional Amendments, visit votetexas.gov. He spoke of the State Budget, giving the amounts allocated to various projects, along with appropria-tions requests and budgets through 2017 as well as surplus and cuts - may be found at gov.Texas.gov/budget - you can then select the year of your interest. As an item of interest to our local area, he also sponsored bills congratulat-ing the D’Hanis High School girls’ basketball team on their successful season, Hondo High School FFA Homesite and Land Judging teams on their champion-ship win at the National Land and Range Judging Contest, as well as the Hondo High School Parliamentary Procedure team on taking first-place honors at the 2015 Business Professionals of America State Leadership Conference.(A repeat visit to our Club would certainly be welcome) ~ Till Next Time - Be A Gift to the World ~ The POT continues to grow. We collect Plastic Bags (any size from any store) for use by the Medina County Nutri-tion Center (to package Meals On Wheels delivered by volunteers each week)* We A-L-L have Ink Cartridges which can be collected for use by schools & churches(in Hondo, you may take your used cartridge to the Castroville Computers of Hondo store on 18th Street where they will be picked up periodically by a Rotarian for delivery to Hondo HS, where Sally Bader, BPA sponsor, uses them for that organization.)* Do you know that Soup Cans and Cereal Boxes have Reward Points which can also be collected for use by schools & churches to get a bit of financial support - takes about 20 seconds (Interact is going to start a project for their school so please contrib-ute and we’ll make sure the kids get the credit!)
