With a rich history dating back to 1760, the Lacons name and ales have been synonymous with brewing in East Anglia and beyond for centuries.
Today, we stand proud by opening our first new public house in 50 years.
Under the watchful eye of experiencedNorfolk hostelry operator Henry Watt, the Honingham Buck comes alive as a community pub for today!
Perfectly poured pints of our multi award winning craft ales are servedalongside an inspired, honest and quality menu of local fayre from our county.
So... if you enjoy great beer, delicious food and a good ol’ yarn with friends or family, then you will feel at home in this chocolate box pub.

The Honingham Buck
‘I am still reeling with delight at the soaring majesty of Norfolk.’

The picturesque village of Honingham stands just eight miles west from the fine city of Norwich, Norfolk.
Dating back to 1789, The Buck has stood in the the heart of the village for over two centuries.
First registered as The Bell to Landlady Elizabeth Harris it was then renamed The Buck in 1792, when Landlord John Buck took charge. He was reputed to be a notorious smuggler, according to Parson Woodforde’s diaries.
Other former Landlords have also included James Young and William
Grand who tended 10’s of acres of farmland as well as the pub and the now defunct brewery Watney Mann during the early twentieth century.
During World War II, the pub becamea 2nd home to passing airman from the local RAF base at Attlebridge, which was later sold on to Norfolkbusinessman Bernard Matthews
Today, after extensive restoration, the Honingham Buck offers a vast menu of home cooked fayre from some of the region’s top Chefs, alongside our award winning ales.
History of our Pub
At its heart, our community pub for today is no different than is has always been:
“a place which offers beer and food. Serving a group of people living in the same place or those having particular
interests in common and it should belong to and connect with this
present time or age.” However today’s definition reaches further afield than just the village’s boundaries. Our community extends to those that share our common interests and travel from throughout
the county to visit us as they becomemembers of The Honingham Buck community.
Simplicity lies at our heart, we simply need to ensure our pub provides:
“the best beer and drinks, food that is simple, relevant to the community
and of excellent quality. Served in surroundings that respect the pub’s
heritage and deliver today’s standard by warm hearted souls who are both
passionate and professional.”

A familiar feature on Great Yarmouth’s skyline, Lacons remained one of theregion’s most loved breweries until itwas slowly consumed by a national brewer during the 1960’s.
A casualty of the corporate world,the Lacons name drifted into the darkness like a spent candle, albeit for its iconic falcon emblem that remained emblazoned in the brickwork of many of its former Public Houses.
Thankfully, all was not lost and Lacons eventually returned home in 2013, a stones throw away from the town’s golden sands.
Today, under the watchful eye of acclaimed brewer Wil Wood, ouraward winning ales, still crafted with original Lacons yeast flow freely once again in licenced premises throughout the flat lands of Norfolk and beyond.

Permanent Ales
Boasting a heritage that spans over two and a half centuries, Lacons hand crafted ales are made with the finest hops, malt and Lacons original yeasts.
Following their launch in 2013, these multi award winning ales have gained a phenomenal following and are
enjoyed throughout East Anglia and beyond every day of the year.
We know the discerning ale drinker expects quality, consistency and flavour with every pint and our tried and tested brewing techniques ensure this.
At The Buck, we aim to have four of Lacons crafted ale range available at any one time.
Throughout the year, we will also showcasea seasonal or heritage brew from their collection.
Light amber, packed with a smooth citrus punch. Balanced dry
pine and zesty flavour throughout that
finishes with a robust long bitterness.
With a chestnut tint,complex passion fruit
and lychee tartnessleaps forward,
followed by a charming balanced fruity malt
on the finish.
Distinctively balanced with a golden hue.
Crisp fruit greets the nose before a wave of melon and grapefruit flavour. The finish is
graciously bitter sweet.
Balanced use of hops and malt paves the
way to lightly spicedcharming flavours.
The finish is a perfect mix of fruitiness
and bitterness.

We are passionate about our food and hope you find something to enjoyfrom our menu. You can order what you want, when you want and eat itwherever you want.
We place great emphasis on quality ingredients and wherever possible use suppliers who can provide thebest from the Norfolk larder.
Ultimately, quality is our overriding benchmark and this dictatesour purchasing policy.
Our Head Chef Jack Gosling has an eclectic palate and after working for a number of years at the Wildebeest spent 2 years cooking in Sydney. This widened his horizons and gave his palate a taste for the regions culinary influences. These are reflected in his menu at The Buck, where he combines our own culinary heritage with a few global influences.
Our bar nibbles are great with a pint or as an accompaniment to a main meal.

Drawing from our rich archive stretching back over 250 years, Lacons Heritage Range are
crafted to be a modern expression of some of Lacons original and most iconic recipes.
Heritage Range
Full bodied from roasted malts, this exceptional
dark stout carries a gentle crimson radiance.
Valiant stone fruits are balanced by a hint of
citrus and blackcurrant,and a smooth dry finish.

Golden amber with a fragrance of woody
forest berries. It has smooth biscuity
malt flavours that mature to a rounded
nutty and lightly spiced end.

The palate of today’s drinker has evolved greatly over time and these brews have been
innovatively modernised with contemporary flair and brewing techniques to create an
exciting and unique range of ales.
Original bottle labels were the inspiration in developing the heritage ranges iconic pump clips.

and refreshing stonefruits on the nose.
Toasted nutty flavoursblend with roastedcoffee into a warm
slightly sweet ending.

revival brims with lustful tropical fruits.
Divine aromas of citrus continue long into a
finish that is laced with delicate floral notes.

flaxen ale with boldhoppy aromas and atang of tropical fruit.A blend of American
hops lead to a pungent bitter finish.

Dark copper barleywine with prominent flavour of berry fruit,
laced with spice. The finish is warming,
smooth and sweet. A unique style of beer
with ‘hop wine’ overtones.

Head Brewer | Wil WoodFrom humble beginnings to multi award winner, our Head Brewer has built an enviable reputation in the brewing world over the last two decades including the creation of Lacons award winning range of ales.
Beginning at Oakham Ales as Second Brewer, Oakham won over 200 awards during his nine year tenure including Supreme Champion Beer of Britain in 2001 and runner up Champion Beer of Britain in 1999.
Fulfilling a dream to live in the Scottish highlands in 2006, Wil became Head Brewer of Fyne Ales, gaining internationalrecognition for the brewery with a string of awards includingthose from the Peterborough, Salisbury, Paisley, Aberdeen and Helensburgh festivals.
Wil’s global accolades include an array of bronze, silver and gold medals at the last four International Beer Challenges.
So far at Lacons, Wil and his team have crafted the current CAMRA Champion Golden Ale of Norfolk with ‘Affinity’ andthe overall winner of the SIBA East Beer Competition in 2014 with ‘Encore’ to name but a few.
A selection of our award winning ales are always available at Honingham Buck, served in our signature tulip glassware which bears the brewery’s name as a mark of distinction and quality.
EncorE Perfect with any of our meat or poultry dishes.
Its dry pine and zesty flavours have the characterto stand up well against the fuller flavours of pork
and beef whilst the robust long bitterness of it’s finish does not overwhelm lamb or chicken.
Pale AleWith it’s golden hue, crisp fruit and a bittersweet
finish this works wonderfully with our fish platter.If you have never tried it now is the time to give it a go.
FalconThe perfect pint to go with our ploughman’s.
Its character works perfectly with our home made cheese, sausage rolls and ham whilst the lightly spiced flavours stand up admirably to chef’s perfect piccalilli.
AFFINITYFor the perfect combination we always recommend
a pint of Affinity with our hugely popular pork quavers & apple sauce. Its full body and
tartness is a perfect match.

Our Chefs recently took some time out to discover which ales marriedwell with our food offering and after a number of well deserved pints the results are suggested opposite.
We would never dream to tell you what to drink but these are well worth a try...

yeasts which have been perfectly preserved in the National Collection of Yeast Cultures in Norwich, Norfolk.
After each fermentation we carefully harvest the yeasts, test them in our brewery laboratory for viability and use them in subsequent brews to maintain the authentic Lacons taste.

Norfolk is the 5th largest county in England and a fine place to visit. With nearly 100 miles of coastline, our flatlands house the largest lowland forest in Britain, we also have the highest concentration of medieval churches in the world and the wonder that its the Norfolk Broads.
The Honinghams Buck seats in the centre of the county and will soon offer a number of differing letting rooms for overnight stays in addition to ourestablished fine beers, drinks and food.
For ramblers we have a wonderful array of local seasonal walks which are always shown on the Honingham Parish website. Walkers cans also scale the neaby Ringland Hills.
Golfers are spoilt for choice with nearby Barnham Broom, Old Costessey and Bawburgh clubs that cater for all abilities.
And if you are looking for a fun family day out there is alway the nearby Dinosaur Park at Lenwade.
