Honouring Veterans

In the Beginning• The program was developed jointly between
the Masonic Lodge # 12 and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 48
• Based on a similar program in the US• They approached Council in 2012 for in-kind
support to install the banners for a 3- year period during November
Year 1• The Legion coordinated the application for
permission to display the banners and ordered the banners
• 22 banners were installed @ $200.00 each• The biggest cost was the bracket @ $125.00• The banner was $75.00
Year 2• Look at cost saving by sourcing brackets with
community college @ $40.00• Increased the number of banners to 57• Excess funds through cost savings used to
replace damaged banners
Year 3• Total banners installed - 160• This simple program now takes two weeks and
the in-kind support includes labour hours and rental equipment
Recognizing Service Animals
• In the parking lot of the town’s post office there are two banners placed to honour service animals
• Gander- Canine• Princess Louise - Horse
The Future• Program likely to continue• The program is very popular and more
requests are expected• 2014 - 18 banners of 160 damaged – 11.25%• Future banners may be mesh instead of solid
vinyl• The Town stores the banners, but they remain
the property of the purchaser
