Welcome Welcome to the Hope and Homes for Children 2014 Future Gifts Catalogue. We are delighted to end our 20th anniversary year with a wonderful range of gifts and an equally varied collection of Christmas Cards, to suit a wide range of budgets and tastes. We hope there is something here for everyone.

The UK Government will double your donationBetween the 12th September and 12th December the UK government will be

supporting the Hope and Homes for Children NUMB3RS campaign. During this time all donations made by individuals will be matched by the UK government and will help us support vulnerable families, giving them the means to lift themselves out of poverty and prevent children being placed in orphanages (see page 13 for more details). Please note: The prices of Future Gifts do not include the full matched amount.

Instructions Buying a friend or loved one a Future Gift is a special way to continue your support of our work. 1. Life and soleA pair of shoes can be a life saver for a child in Africa. Avoiding cuts and infections can mean the difference between life and death whilst shoes are often a requirement for attending school.

This simple gift could buy a pair of shoes for a child.

2. My first toyToys bring comfort, fun and learning to a child’s life. Many of the children we rescue from orphanages will never have owned their own toy.

3. Passport to lifeChildren leaving orphanages have nothing, sometimes they don’t have an identity or even a name. A birth certificate is one step towards a child discovering his or her identity. The certificate will also ensure they are registered for health care and ultimately to work.

Your gift could provide a child with a birth certificate giving them an identity and a future.

4. Blanket coverageChildren leaving an orphanage for the first time to go and live with a family need a proper bed and bed clothes. This gift will make sure they sleep warm and snug each night in their new home.

Your gift could ensure that a child leaving an orphanage has a proper set of bed clothes.

5. Up and awayThe vulnerable families we work with often need a little bit of help to access vital services such as hospitals, nurseries and schools. This gift could help to pay for travel costs such as a regular taxi fare or a bus ticket.

6. Candles and cakeImagine growing up without ever celebrating your birthday, something most children growing up in orphanages never get to do. Birthdays are the time where children are made to feel extra special and are an essential part of a happy childhood.

Your gift could ensure that a child in a Small Family Home is able to celebrate their birthday, perhaps for the first time.

10. Play awayMany of the children we rescue from orphanages have severe special needs. Often the best way to ensure they get the love and care they need is in a Small Family Home. The right toys and play equipment are vital in going towards creating a family environment alongside the carers that give them the care they deserve. This gift could buy a specialist toy for a child with special needs.

11. The iron, the switch and the wardrobe

Small Family Homes provide a loving family environment for children and young adults. In many cases these children have special needs and the homes need to be specially adapted to meet each child’s requirements.

13. Saving and changing livesOur social workers are at the front end of our work to remove children from orphanages and to support the most vulnerable families. They often face hostile and difficult situations and may be helping children with severe special needs. We need to equip these champions with the right skills.

Your gift could help to pay to train a social worker so they are fully equipped to face another difficult day.

14. My first family

Foster parents give their home and their love to children who have been rescued from loveless orphanages. Each foster family is specially selected, trained and supported to ensure they give a child all the care and nurturing he or she will need.

Your gift could allow us to recruit and train a new foster family to care for a child.

The UK government will match all donations to Hope and Homes for Children pound for pound, between September 12th to December 12th 2014. This funding is through the UK Aid Match scheme.

This means that any Future Gifts that you buy from this catalogue and any additional donations you make will be matched as long as we receive them within the appeal timespan.

For example, if you are a UK resident and you buy a £10 Future Gift and add a £10 donation this will be matched pound for pound by the UK Government, resulting in £40 for Hope and Homes for Children.

Unfortunately purchases of Christmas cards and calendars are not eligible.
