It allows for community members who are unable to participate in patient visits, still contribute a huge support in our patient volunteer program. Each week a designated volunteer calls our hospice families to assure supplies and medicines are on hand before the weekend and to check on the general status of the patient and family and provide support. A report is made to the staff and actions are taken as needed. Just recently unveiled, these are just some of the responses we have received from our patients and families participating in this newly unveiled program: “So nice to talk with someone that is so very caring and supportive!” “It is so nice to know there is yet another layer of support if I would need something.” “Hospice is just wonderful by adding this extra support program.” As hospice volunteers, we have the opportunity to do sacred work. We have an immense privilege of journeying alongside our patients and their families. For anyone that might be interested in assisting in the “Tuck-In”program or for more information on our volunteer opportunities, please contact Debbie Workman at 301.334.5151 or 301.616.4873.
