• Derived from a Latin term for “enslaved” or “bound to”
• Influence on the brain that manifests in 3 ways:
1 Craving for the object of addiction1. Craving for the object of addiction2. Loss of control over its use3. Continuing involvement despite adverse consequences.
DEFINITION
A primary, chronic disease of brain reward, motivation, memory and related circuitry. Dysfunction in these circuits leads to characteristic leads to characteristic biological, psychological, social and spiritual manifestations.
