HELP US SAVE SOME
Grand Opening of Independence CampusOn April 29th, 2011, Hope House
celebrated the Grand Opening of our renovated Independence campus. Our staff and guests enjoyed a beautiful, blue sky day for touring the campus. Several speakers addressed the crowd discussing what the new campus means to Hope House, our community and our clients.
The $5 million capital campaign project included updates for the shelter and daycare buildings; the existing Therapy Building was transformed into the Community Partnership Building; and a new Therapy Building was constructed.

The new Therapy Building.
The Community Partnership Building features a salon, as well as medical and dental office, which we believe to be
the first for a DV shelter in Missouri. These well-equipped spaces allow our community partners to offer their services to our clients, helping them to address their many needs within the safe confines of our campus.
The new Therapy Building includes three group rooms that are large enough to accommodate the growing number of clients seeking our therapy services. It also includes three observation rooms to monitor new staff and interns in their work with our clients.

What Are Those Funny Little Boxes?
These strange little boxes are suddenly showing up in every magazine, newspaper and flyer. But what are they?
They’re called QR codes (Quick Response codes) and they are the link between the digital world and the physical world.
Using a barcode scanner on your smartphone, you can scan one of these codes and be taken to a website, a video, or anywhere online for more information. If you don’t have a barcode or QR scanner yet, just search for it in your apps store on your phone. Most are free. Download it and start having fun with this amazing technology.

Blackjack, roulette, craps, bingo, plinko... we had it ALL at our 5th
annual Spring Fling casino night at Hilton Garden Inn. Cheers and jeers rose up from the crowd as the cards were dealt and the dice were tossed.
At the conclusion of the crazy/fun night, we’d raised almost $34,000!
Although the day started out rainy, the sun finally fought its way through
and a beautiful day was on tap for our 7th annual Celebrity Golf Classic at Creekmoor Golf Club. 33 teams enjoyed their day on the links, but the team from PricewaterhouseCoopers ended up on top and walked away with the coveted traveling trophy. The tournament raised almost $73,000 for Hope House programs.
The Plaza Rotary Club recently spent a work day
in our Lee’s Summit shelter. They removed carpet, and installed tile floors in a play area, dining space and bedrooms. They also gave us matching grant money to pay for materials. The non-porous surface of a tile floor makes maintenance easier, which is essential because we house an average of 133 women and 87 children each month in our shelters.

Kids Get Moving
Variety, the children’s charity,
provided grant funding that was used to purchase outdoor play equipment, a variety of balls, jump ropes, and a tricycle for our new Independence shelter playground. With Variety’s support, Hope House created an area for children ages 2-12 to get outside and get moving. Through play, children get to explore the world, take risks, learn to work in groups, and resolve conflict.
