Strategic pathways guide our work with students, families, and the community.

It is always amazing when Hopkins Public Schools’ professionals put their talents and energies to work in an environment that has educational excellence as its foundation. Three years ago, the Hopkins School Board set three pathways for our schools to follow: Innovation, Inspiration, and Partnership.

Our dedicated staff demonstrates innovation and inspiration daily. From digital curriculum and International Baccalaureate to coding and our expanded world language program, our teachers add energy and enthusiasm to research-based best practices that enhance student learning.

We recently partnered with Hennepin County Library on a White House-sponsored program to better connect libraries, classrooms, and students. A partnership with Minnesota State Colleges and Universities makes it possible for all students who graduate from Hopkins to earn college credit for taking required coursework. Partnerships are at the core of our educational excellence and allow for collaboration with neighboring school districts and leveraging resources with local corporations.

It is very rewarding to write about the accomplishments Hopkins Public Schools has celebrated, and this report will provide a glimpse into the pathways of this creative and strategic school district.

If you need more information, please visit our schools. They are amazing and dynamic places!

EARLY CHILDHOODClosing the achievement and opportunity gap starts early in Hopkins through early childhood and preschool programs. Our goal is to support future school-readiness by providing the best possible environment for children’s learning. From ECFE (Early Childhood Family Education) classes and workshops to preschool options in every elementary school, our comprehensive early childhood program is serving more families with young children each year. Attributing to our program’s success is our ability to adapt to families’ unique needs. In addition to expanding preschool offerings, we have new course topics, free monthly classes, interpreters, and provide on-site one-to-one visits.

FISCAL HEALTH

According to a 2015 survey, the Hopkins community listed “good teachers” as what they like best about the District. And for good reason. Hopkins has earned a reputation for creativity and innovation, largely due to the flexibility and trust afforded to our teachers.

Our Early Childhood program supports learning for our youngest community members starting at birth, setting a strong foundation for school success. A quality preschool experience is another important step toward school readiness. All Hopkins preschools have a 4-star Parent Aware rating and feature embedded STEM curriculum.

We prepare students for postsecondary experiences by providing learning opportunities that encourage critical thinking and creativity, cultural competency, pursuit of individual passions, and real-life applications of learning.

Hopkins students demonstrate success in a variety of ways. Students have the option of enrolling in college-level courses through our Advanced Placement (AP) or College in the Schools (CiS) programs. There are also interventions for students whose potential is higher than their performance.

The classroom environment is as important as the learning itself. Students are surrounded by caring adults, both in the classroom and in after-school programs. They have many opportunities to participate in service-learning projects that positively impact their school, the local community, and even the world.

The mission of Hopkins High School is to ensure all students graduate with the skills necessary for postsecondary success. Students who graduate from Hopkins High School are not only academically prepared for college, they are also prepared for life.

The Hopkins District has a rich history of using technology to personalize, enhance, and transform education. Digital learning environments are sprouting up all over Hopkins in preschool through high school. We know that technology is always evolving, so we partner with corporations, universities, and our neighboring school districts to learn, share, and improve — never forgetting that our mission is to provide the best instruction possible for our students.

Rated by community members as one of the most effective Community Education programs in the metro area, Hopkins Community Education encourages all members of the school community to actively participate in classes and events. No matter where you are in life, we welcome you to spark a passion for lifelong learning.

We are committed to fiscal responsibility and a balanced budget. This commitment ensures that maximum resources reach our classrooms.

BUDGET STABILITYDuring the last seven years, the District has built a healthy fund balance — a reserve that has helped the District weather the state aid and tax shifts that have affected all Minnesota school districts.
