Exhibition Catalogue
“Horarium derives from the liturgical works named the Book of Hours; a sort of diary or calendar that organizes different liturgical rites and prayers into a daily, monthly and annual cycle. It represents a formula for the organization and temporal management of human behaviour, integrated in a cycle analogous to those of the microcosmic or macrocosmic worlds. I generate creation and labouring cycles that repeat and describe a temporary space reflected in the final pieces of my artwork. For me, it is a way to connect with the universe’s cyclical rhythms.”

Javier León Pérezb. 1977, Seville, Spain
Javier’s monochromatic abstract landscapes undulate withrhizomatic movement. In his three-dimensional works, small
elements of carefully folded Japanese paper interweave witheach other tracing a dance, drawing the viewer into aparallel reality. As with poetry, the message is implicit, it pointsto a new place that opens up new possibilities.
In his paintings as well as sculptural paper works, the detailedprocess and craftsmanship, an eternal repetition of smallelements that cover the surface, act as a mantra, a sacred
formula and deeply personal ritual for the artist. For the viewer, the first impact of the powerful colours and the tactile velvetytextures slowly move into a full aesthetic sensory experience. The eyes explore the surface and discover differences indensity, quantity, as well as the games of light and shadow.
León Pérez’s studied at the School of Arts in Seville and apostgraduate at the Unviersidad Complutense de Madrid. His
works have participated in several biennales including deBiennial Paper of Contemporary Art at the Rijswijk Museum inHolland.
After successfully exhibiting with Puerta Roja at internationalart fairs throughout Asia for the past year, León Pérez's workshave been acquired by collectors in the Philippines, Indonesia,Taiwan, South Korea and Hong Kong
