1.0 Overview SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) is a network management structure and protocol defined by IETF RFCs. SNMP is used for monitoring the status and performance of network devices. It is a TCP/IP based network protocol, using UDP communications.

DragonWave Horizon Quantum products implement SNMP MIB objects in both RFC-1213 defined interfaces and as enterprise branch proprietary objects. RFC-1213 statistics and counters are maintained for the internal loopback interface, and the management system interface. The DragonWave enterprise OID is 7262, and the Horizon family branch is 2, within the DragonWave OID. The Horizon family branch is further sub-divided into Horizon Compact (outdoor/ODU) systems in branch 2, Horizon DUO (indoor) systems in branch 3 and Horizon Quantum (indoor) systems in branch 4.

DragonWave Horizon products are supplied with two standard MIB definition files covering Horizon family definitions (IDU/ODU) and Horizon specific objects.

1.1 Tree Structure To DragonWave Enterprise MIB A graphical- representation of the SNMP tree to DragonWave Horizon product family branch is shown below.

1.2 Horizon Quantum MIB Structure The following diagram illustrates the MIB structure for Horizon Quantum systems. The folders represent the MIB branches or folders. Horizon Quantum systems fall under the DragonWave corporate enterprise number of 7262, therefore all Horizon Quantum numeric OIDs will begin with an OID of:

    1 .3 .6 .1 .4 .1 .7262 .2 .4

(The above list is from MIB v1.02 released with Horizon Quantum firmware version 1.02)

1.3 Retrieving SNMP Objects Via Numeric OID

If a commercial NMS system (such as HP OpenView, CastleRock SNMPc, etc.) with MIB definition file import capabilities is unavailable, the SNMP statistics can be retrieved using alternative means. One such solution is to manually retrieve values of interest using programs such as SNMPGET. SNMPGET can be obtained from the NET-SNMP project at http://net-snmp.sourceforge.net. Using the SNMPGET program for example, the following command can be used to retrieve the current RSL from a DragonWave Horizon Quantum product wireless interface 1 with SNMP configured and enabled. The command below assumes we are using SNMP v1 requests, with a read-only community string of public, and accessing a DragonWave Horizon Quantum with a default IP address of 192.168.10.100.

    ./snmpget v1 cpublic 192.168.10.100 .1.3.6.1.4.1.7262.2.4.5.4.1.1.5

The DragonWave Horizon Quantum branch of the MIB contains sub-branches that cover various statistics and settings. These values can be retrieved and set using SNMP v1 or v2c.

    1.4 Wireless Ports

The Horizon Quantum modem is available in several hardware configurations. The IDU may contain one or two Intermediate Frequency interfaces and may be connected to one or two ODU radios. In this case OID objects are referenced by index values of 1 or 2 respectively. For example, the OID of the RSL for the radio connected to wireless port 1 is .1.3.6.1.4.1.7262.2.4.5.4.1.1.5.1, while the OID of the RSL for the radio connected to wireless port 2 is .1.3.6.1.4.1.7262.2.4.5.4.1.1.5.2

2.0 Suggested List of Monitored Objects The following table offers a list of some objects that may be useful to monitor on a DragonWave Horizon Quantum system. Objects are listed by numeric OID. This is useful if the MIB import and compilation facility is not available in the chosen SNMP monitoring software package.

Note that for Ethernet port statistics **, adding numbers 1 through 8 to the numerical OID will return the data associated with specific port numbers 1 through 8.

Example: For hzQtmEnetPortRxBytes the Numeric OIDs for each of the eight ports is 1.3.6.1.4.1.7262.2.4.4.1.3.1.2.1 through 1.3.6.1.4.1.7262.2.4.4.1.3.1.2.8

3.0 DragonWave and MIB-II Interfaces The DragonWave Horizon Quantum products currently maintain RFC-1213 statistics for two network interfaces, the internal network loopback interface and the management system interface. In the .iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.interfaces branch, instance 0 refers to the network loopback interface, and instance 1 refers to the management system interface. The data port (P1) or bridged traffic is not monitored at this time via an RFC-1213 compliant interface. A sample of the RFC-1213 defined MIB structure is shown below.

This is an important configuration!!!! There are three groups GR-A (OR-A), GR-B (OR-B) and GR-C (AND). Any Ethernet port can belong to any one of these three groups. These port groups are mutually exclusive. That means, one port cannot belongs to two or more groups Example: OR-A ={Port1, Port2}, OR-B {Port3,Port5}and AND ={Port4} RLS will not trigger due to local Ethernet port state if 1. Either Port1 or Port2 is up AND 2. Either Port2 or Port5 is up AND 3. Port4 is up. For any reason if RLS triggers, Port1, Port2, Port3, Port4 and Port5 will all be shutdown.

4.2 SNMP Traps Suggested trap severity ratings have been provided. Critical alarms indicate that the link has failed, Major alarms indicate events that will or are affecting link performance, Minor alarms indicate configuration problems or conditions that are transient, and Information alarms are notices of non-traffic or performance affecting events including clearing of any Critical, Major, or Minor traps. All traps sent using SNMP are sent with Enterprise OID .1.3.6.1.4.1.7262.2.4.21 unless otherwise specified, generic and specific values are detailed in the table below. Generic Specific Name Severity Description

    0 ColdStart 4 AuthenticationFailure

6 1 hzQtmlinkDown Critical A linkDown trap signifies that the sending protocol entity recognizes a failure in one of the communication links represented in the agent's configuration.

6 2 hzQtmlinkUp Information A linkUp trap signifies that the sending protocol entity recognizes that one of the communication links represented in the agent's configuration has come up.

6 3 hzQtmExplicitAuthenticationFailure Major Authentication of the peer horizon node has failed. The severity is critical, the probable cause is an incorrect authentication configuration on horizon faulty cable between the modem and radio, and recommended course of action is to check both ends of the link.

6 4 hzQtmExplicitAuthenticationFailureCleared Information The condition has cleared. The peer node is now authenticated. 6 5 hzQtmHitlessAamConfigMisMatch Minor Hitless Automatic Adaptive modulation configuration mismatch 6 6 hzQtmHitlessAamConfigMisMatchCleared Information Hitless Automatic Adaptive modulation configuration mismatch cleared. 6 7 hzQtmHitlessAamActive Major Hitless Automatic Adaptive m
