Hornet Spotlight—Ja’Vontrez Burden and Traye McCook
This week’s Hornet Spotlight shines brightly on PHS Senior Ja’Vontrez Burden. Ja’Vontrez has
been representing the Hornet football and wrestling team through-
out his entire high school career. When Ja’Vontrez is not hus-tling on the football field
or pinning opponents on the mat, he can be found
spending quality time with his brother and girl-
friend. Ja’Vontrez proclaims Coach Carroll as the teacher that has inspired him the greatest during his years at PHS because he has motivated
Ja’Vontrez to always strive to do his best in any-thing and everything he chooses to do, and to never settle for less. After high school Ja’Vontrez
plans on serving our country by joining the Air Force. Good luck, Ja’Vontrez!
This week’s Hornet Spotlight also shines brightly on PHS Senior Traye McCook. This busy Hornet has been
an active member of the PHS FFA and tennis team all throughout his high
school career. Traye has been a part of the Hornet football team during the course of his junior and
senior years. He was also a vigorous member of the FCA during his sopho-
more and junior years. When Traye gets a spare mo-ment from his busy Hornet Schedule, he enjoys hunt-ing and fishing. Traye declares Coach Carroll as the
teacher that has motivated him the most during his years at PHS because of his great coaching abilities that he portrays through Christian values. After high
school Traye plans on attending ABAC to later become a County Agent. Good luck, Traye!

Mrs. Prothro’s fourth block class re-searched a variety of cultures. They dis-
cussed many different characteristics of each culture, which consisted of most
celebrated holidays, roles of the women
and men, the religion, the foods, and edu-cation. These students also had the oppor-
tunity to display their talents and knowledge for the rest of the school by
creating a collage of the posters in the hallway outside Mrs. Prothro’s room. Be sure to check them out when you are on that end of the school.
PHS Dream girls are progressively preparing themselves for a Christmas abundance of joy for the Pelham Parkway Nursing Home
residents. These girls will be singing Christmas carols and presenting cards and candy canes to make these wonderful people feel the Christmas spirit for this very
special holiday. The girls will perform on December 13th.
On December 2nd, the FBLA members traveled to the Pelham Parkway Nursing Home to decorate a Christmas
tree for the residents. The FBLA members who attended were Lacey Brogren, Cheyenne Brooks, Chris Burroughs, Tra’Keena Easom, Jajuan Frazier, Megan Hornsby, Tim-
breanna Hudson, Johnathon Leggett, and Tobi Willis. They also took
pictures and visited with the residents there. Thanks to the
FBLA members for
s p rea d ing th e Christmas spirit to

Mrs. Whigham’s 12th grade Language Arts classes have
been busy cre-ating their own monsters prior
t o r ea d in g about Victor Frankenstein’s
creation in The Introduction to Frankenstein. While vacation-ing with her husband and friends, Mary Shelley began
writing the novel when she was only nineteen years old. The
Seniors also created and shared stories of their monsters
in anticipation of the Frankenstein unit.

FCCLA ‘s No Kid Hungry is a good opportunity to help kids across the globe. Ten million
children go without food everyday, and with only a $1.00 donation, you can help in the effort to make sure this does not continue. So
when you see a member of FCCLA, ask him/her, “How can I help?”

Everyone has heard of or seen the Hollywood star Paul Walker. You may know him from Fast
& Furious, Into the Blue, Flags of Our Fathers, Hours, Joy Ride and many more movies. Paul
was killed in a fiery car crash north of Los Angeles along with driver, Roger Rodas. They
were taking a drive waiting on the charity event to start that they were hosting. Rodas lost
control of the vehicle and smashed through a
lamppost and into a tree before being engulfed
in flames. They were pronounced dead on the
scene. Further investigations have shown that
speed was a contributing factor. These two are
gone but never forgotten.

Cyber Monday is the Monday after Thanksgiving. The term “Cyber Monday” was basically created
to save on online shopping. This day has quickly become one of the biggest shopping days of the year. Also, it has become an international market-
ing term. Countries like Canada, UK, Portugal, Germany, Chile, Columbia, Ireland, Japan, and China also use this day for their online shopping savings. You spend less money by shopping online,
especially where there are numerous amounts of discounts and sales going on all around the world.

Mika ft. Ariana Grande Popular Song
Mika’s song, Popular Song, featuring Ariana Grande has become a really “popular” song. The song hits a subject that most parents tell their children over and
over which is, “The people who think they’re cool by picking on you now won’t be when they grow up, they’ll be coming to you for a job one day.”
The song
makes this point clear with the lyrics
“Always on the look out for someone
to hate, Picking on me like a dinner plate.
I hid during class and between them.
Dunked me in the toilet, now it’s you that cleans them.”
