The Magic Millions National Yearling Sales presents a very good opportunity to secure value for money yearlings that are eligible for the $10m Magic Millions Race Series. It is an ideal time of the year to secure a yearling with our warm Queensland winter weather offering favourable conditions to break in and grow out purchases from this sale. Often this sale can present opportunities late in the season. This year we were presented with an ideal chance to purchase a potential Oaks filly in this lovely filly by very good sire SHOWCASING.

I felt she was ideally placed with KRIS LEES who has stables at both the GOLD COAST and NEWCASTLE which provide plenty of opportunities to place this very nice New Zealand bred filly. Kris is a great trainer, but in particular I feel he does great things with fillies. That was also the case with his late father MAX LEES who had an amazing record with the fairer sex.

SALE OVERVIEW

This filly was an absolute standout for me as one of the better fillies of the sale.

The obvious factor is that she is a full sister to the very good New Zealand filly (OUR) INTRIGUE (NZ) who has won 3 races and has been runner up at Group 2 level last season for the all conquering Tony Pike stable. She looks a sure fire Group winner in the season ahead as a 4yo mare.

This filly is a lovely physical type. She has good strength and size and a nice quality head. She will develop into an imposing filly.

I had to fight hard to buy this filly. Top New Zealand agent PAUL MORONEY was underbidder. He purchased the filly’s full sister (OUR) INTRIGUE as a yearling. This further confirms the opinion connections have of her.

SHOWCASING is an outstanding sire in both hemispheres. Most recently he has supplied the Royal Ascot Group 1 winner of this season in ADVERTISE who was also runner up in a very fast July Cup.

After the sale this filly was sent for a 4 week spell after the sale before being broken in and spelled for another 4-6 weeks. She will then have another pre-training prep before another spell, before she heads to the Gold Coast for her first prep with Kris Lees. The filly will be broken in and pre-trained by master horseman GREG BENNETT at his boutique Canungra property “Fenwick Farm”.

Until recently SHOWCASING shuttled to New Zealand farm Haunui Farm (also the breeders of our filly). He is no longer shuttling due to his significant success back at home in Europe.

SHOWCASING is the sire of this year’s Group 1 Royal Ascot Commonwealth Cup winner ADVERTISE. His daughter QUIET REFLECTION also won the same race 3 years earlier before also claiming the Group 1 Haydock Sprint.

SHOWCASING is by OASIS DREAM, and is from my favourite sire line in GREEN DESERT (who has given us I AM INVINCIBLE).

From limited opportunities and mare quality in the Southern Hemisphere, SHOWCASING has done a good job in this part of the globe. His better performers have included: XPRESSION (Gr 2 Wakefield Challenge), SHOWBOY (Gr 2 Wakefield Challenge), CYLINDER BEACH (Gr 3 Gunsynd Classic), and HARDLINE (Listed Karaka Millions).

Worldwide, SHOWCASING is the sire 358 winners of which 37 are stakes winners.

MONSUN is one of the best sires and broodmare sires in the world when it comes to stamina. The opportunity to buy yearlings out of daughters of MONSUN are few and far between in the Southern Hemisphere.

MONSUN is best known in Australia as the sire of Melbourne Cup winners FIORENTE, PROTECTIONIST and ALMANDIN.

As a sire MONSUN has produced 22 individual Group 1 winners worldwide.

As broodmare sire, MONSUN is proving to be just as potent. His daughters have already produced 15 individual Group 1 winners worldwide.

I felt the mix of Showcasing x Monsun was a lovely mating. It is already proven through this filly’s full sister (OUR) INTRIGUE who has been a Group 2 runner up as a three year-old filly over 2100m at Ellerslie.

This is the first yearling we have provided the stable. Kris Lees is now a proven Group 1 winning trainer from his Newcastle stables.

In 2018 he added a full time stable at the Gold Coast which provides further flexibility to place his team to advantage from Sydney to Brisbane.

The Lee’s stable is a regularly visitor to all the major carnivals. Kris trained his first Group 1 winner in 2004 and now his Group 1 tally has reached the double figure mark thanks to several high class gallopers including LE ROMAIN, LUCIA VALENTINA, SAMANTHA MISS & COUNTY TYRONE.

Kris is a second generation trainer following on from his late father MAX LEES. The stable has been the dominant force in Newcastle since the 1970’s when the stable unleashed Golden Slipper winning colt and subequent champion sire LUSKIN STAR.

Grant Morgan is the Managing Director of Ontrack Thoroughbreds. Grant has over 20 years professional work experience and a lifelong passion for the Australian Racing and Breeding industry. His experience provides clients with the history of a proven track record in a wide range of roles. Prior to embarking into management and consultancy roles, Grant enjoyed hands on experience with horses through both thoroughbred and harness racing. During the past 18 years, Grant has been professionally employed within the Thoroughbred industry as CEO, Marketing Manager, Racing Manager, Business Manager, Riders Agent, Racing Journalist, Bloodstock Agent, Industry Consultant and Form Analyst. In those roles he has been employed or contracted to a wide range of high profile clients including Eliza Park Stud, Australian Associated Press (AAP), Racing and Sports, Racenet, Magic Millions, Racing NSW, Queensland Country Life, Gold Coast Racing, Australasian Turf Monthly and Best Bets/TVN.

Grant attends all major thoroughbred sales throughout Australasia. As a bloodstock agent or racing manager, Grant has secured a growing list of smart gallopers. The crowning achievement for Grant has been the multiple Group 1 wining sprinter Brazen Beau. Selected, purchased and managed by Ontrack, Brazen Beau was a $70,000 yearling buy. Brazen Beau has amassed prizemoney of over $1.4m including demoralizing Group 1 wins in the Coolmore Stakes and the time honoured Newmarket Handicap. In the Spring of 2014, Grant secured a highly sort after multi million dollar stud deal for Brazen Beau and his owners with HH Sheikh Mohammed’s Darley Stud.

Other smart performers that Grant Morgan has selected, purchased, managed and or syndicated include Savanna Amour, Barlinnie, Grand Reve, Currigee, Fabiarna, Faster Son, Flying Minstrel, Rumbird, Sovereign Dream, Chevron Island, Man O Mars, McLaren Vale, Diamond Glow and Harada Bay. ONGOING EXPENSES:

Ongoing expenses on this filly will commence from1 October 2019 and will be billed direct monthly onitemised account. On average we estimate the ongoing monthly expenses to be:

10%=$600 per month, 5%=$300 per month, 1%=$60 per month.

PRIZEMONEY:

Prizemoney is paid direct to each 10% and 5% shareholder direct to their nominated bank account from Racing NSW/Racing VIC/Racing QLD etc. 1% shareholders receive prizemoney at the end of each month from Ontrack (there is no provision for the Racing NSW/Racing VIC/Racing QLD to pay smaller syndicate shareholders not named in the racebook at this point).

LIVESTOCK MORTALITY INSURANCE:

The filly carries mortality insurance for the syndicated value of $180,000. This cost is included in the initial share purchase price. Ongoing cover after 12 months from June 2020 will be at expense of each individual shareholder. An insurance certificate of currency is provided and available for potential subscribers to shares in this syndicate.

ONGOING MANAGEMENT FEES:

At Ontrack we charge low ongoing management fees providing value for money in our professionalservices to maximise your success and enjoyment.

HORSE MANAGEMENT FEE (MONTHLY):

We charge a Monthly Horse Management Fee of $33 (inc GST) per month. This fee is charged on your first horse only. For example, owners with more than 1 horse pay a maximum of $33 per month regardless of how many horses you have with us. If you have shares in 10 horses with Ontrack, in real terms you are paying just $3.30 per horse, per month. This fee is charged to each owner commencing from 1 October 2019.

HORSE MANAGEMENT SERVICE INCLUSIONS:

The Horse Management Fee (monthly) covers a wide range of services we provide to all owners foreach horse under our care including:

• Expert management of each horse by the Ontrack team headed by Grant Morgan. • Professional Campaign planning in conjunction with our trainers • Professional pre-race analysis including pre-post market, ratings, speed map & comments. • Regular Videos, Photos, Progress reports and Audio Updates for your horse. • Assistance with Raceday Owners Ticket Privileges. • Copies of winning race DVD’s posted to each owner following race wins. • Assistance to secure winning raceday photos. • Assistance with ongoing Livestock Insurance requirements. • One Monthly itemised statement/invoice for each horse. • ARDEX horse management platform for communications & account management. • Access to a secure online Owners Portal located at www.ontrackowners.com.au. • 24 hour secure online payment facility. • Invitations to regular social events & racing tours.

We use a combination of email, voice message and video to provide regular updates on the progress of your horse. We also encourage our clients to visit their horses on a regular basis at the stables and spelling farms.

EVENTSOntrack stages several social events each year. These include racing & breeding tours, shareholder dinners, stable inspection days, race-days and stud tours. These events enable clients to get to know other owners. This is also a valuable source of business networking for many.
