GENERAL MANAGER’S WELCOMEDear Customer

The 2016 edition of our Horticulture Buyers’ Guide presents some exciting new products and revolutionary advancements, which highlights Croplands commitment to local and collaborative research and development.

A new 1060mm air blast fan for our 4000L Cropliner, which is perfect for tall tree crops such as almonds, macadamias and avocados. The fan design is patented and produces a huge volume of air with less hp and is amazingly quiet. In fact I was personally involved in some competitor comparison trials where this fan literally blew away the competition.

A new Micro Power Pack – a self contained, independent oil system for our 2-row, 3-row and Quantum Mist Tower Sprayers. It is environmentally friendly, cooler, quieter, lighter and significantly reduces the reliance on tractor hydraulics. The system has taken 3 years to complete and holds a design registration.

We hope this guide can assist you in choosing the right Croplands sprayer for your application needs. Should you require any guidance, please don’t hesitate to contact your local Croplands Horticultural Dealer or Area Sales Manager who will be happy to discuss your individual requirements.

Yours Sincerely

Sean Mulvaney General Manager, Croplands (Australasia)

Over 16,000 Quantum Mist fan heads have been sold worldwide.

TURBULENT SPRAY ADVANTAGEHigh-volume, turbulent, directional air for excellent coverage.

The best way of delivering spray to the intended target is via a high volume, turbulent airstream, and the Quantum Mist does it perfectly, penetrating deep inside the canopy.

The fan heads can be directed to target specific areas of the canopy, ensuring the coverage is optimised for the conditions, and reducing off target drift.

Key points of difference between Quantum Mist Vineyard sprayers and other two and three-row air assisted sprayers:

» The Quantum Mist is quick and easy to calibrate. The heads perform well across a wide range of configurations with different head angles and distances from the canopy. On this basis, the sprayer should not require constant adjustment to optimise its performance between different blocks

» The Quantum Mist 3-row sprayer coverage performance is constant across all sprayed rows, including the two outer rows that are only sprayed from one side. Most other multi-row sprayers’ performance depends on air interaction between opposing spray heads, with individual spray heads showing weak performance into wind when used individually. In contrast, the wide band, high volume turbulent air produced by Quantum Mist fans can deliver excellent coverage and deposition, even when used to treat single vine sides. Operating costs should be significantly lower than those for other two and three-row air assisted vineyard sprayers. This is largely a result of low input power required to drive the energy efficient fans

» Good air assistance is required to penetrate canopies and deposit coverage-efficient fine spray droplets. The best vineyard sprayers each use one of three different types of air assistance. Quantum Mist sprayers use the direct throughput SARDI fan technology that produces a wide band of high volume turbulent air at the canopy – with none of the energy inefficiency associated with pressurising and pumping air around ducts and corners

In real terms the air performance efficiency of Quantum Mist sprayers in comparison with other two or three-row sprayers allows:

» Hourly fuel consumption reductions of up to 42%

» Increased work rate reduces tractor operating hours to spray the property – extending the operating life for a tractor up to 1.5 years

» Potential to increase travel speeds (compared to maximum travel speeds recommended for other sprayer types) that can result in work rates increases of 0.4 additional hectares treated per hour – equivalent to a reduction in spraying time of 5 hours over a 100 hectare vineyard

» Consistent application rates and coverage across all three rows sprayed

» The Quantum Mist 3-row sprayer tested showed up to a 12.75% reduction in decibel compared to other brand sprayers. This reduces noise discomfort to operators and neighbours

QUANTUM MIST™ TOWER SPRAYER

2000 litre Quantum Mist™ XL series sprayer with 3 fans per side, standard self-steering drawbar, single axle and 180 L/min diaphragm pump.

Intensively grown tree crops, such as apples and stonefruit, require more spraying than most other tree crops. The Quantum Mist™ tower sprayer provides unrivalled coverage and other added advantages over standard sprayers.

Using 8 nozzles per fan, equating to 24 nozzles per side, more droplets in the upper part of the tree can be achieved and at higher travel speeds.

Other advantages include:

» Highly targeted areas for thinning sprays

» Shut off for top fans for smaller trees in developing orchards

» More high-volume air in a wider spray swath giving unmatched spray coverage at lower application rates

» Higher spraying speeds compared to traditional airblast sprayers

XL QUANTUM MIST™ TOWER FEATURES » 2000 and 3000 litre tank options

The Self Propelled (SP) Cropliner sprayer is perfectly designed to suit the needs of orchards and is an impressive machine that should be considered when upgrading your spraying equipment.

The SP Cropliner can go more places than your current tractor and trailed or linkage sprayer combination, thanks to its low and compact design.

This unit is built with operator comfort and practicality in mind, with an air conditioned fully enclosed cab with carbon filters, featuring radio/CD player and

excellent visibility from the windscreen and rear camera.

With four wheel steer the tight turning capability of the SP Cropliner means that properties with narrow headlands are no challenge, and you will increase your spraying efficiency by quickly getting into the next row.

SARDI FLUORESCENT DYEFor thorough spray coverage analysis, all sprayer operators or owners of sprayers should consider investing in Croplands SARDI fluorescent dye. The dye is tank-mixed with water and sprayed onto the target crop. There are no residue issues as this is food grade quality dye. A UV-light is needed to assess coverage results.

SPRAYWISE CONVERSION TABLEAre you confused about water rates in tree crop and vine applications?

Croplands and Nufarm have developed an easy to follow table to simplify the process and answer your questions on dosage rates converting L/ha to L/100m.

WINDMATE HAND-HELD WEATHERMETERWeather plays an important part during application. Measuring conditions on the spot such as wind speed, delta T and temperature make a vital difference in the daily decision making of an applicator. An increasing number of labels make it mandatory to note these conditions before commencing application. For everybody who applies chemicals, the WindMate is a must have tool.

FEATURESTemperature in °C or °F

Relative humidity in % (does not need re-calibration)

Wet bulb temperature in °C or °F

Dewpoint in °C or °F

Delta T in °C or °F

Windspeed in Km/hr, MPH, knots, m/sec, Ft/min and Beaufort (also gives maximum and average)

Compass and wind direction (using wind vane)

Comfort index (takes into account the impact of wind, temperature, relative humidity and sun strength)

ALBUZ ceramic nozzles for orchard, vineyard and other horticultural crops set the standard in precision and wear resistance. Many of the crop protection products used in this intensive farming system are abrasive and require an air-assisted fan-type sprayer for coverage. The wear characteristics of the highest quality ceramic materials used by ALBUZ means the flow and droplet spectrum is consistent and reliable. Choose from the options below and on the following page for your application. Talk to your Croplands Area Sales Manager for more information if required.
