Purpose of Writing:Hosea, like all the prophets, wrote to convince Israel of her sins and call her back into the true worship of God. If the country didn’t turn back, she would end up once again in slavery to another nation, just as she once had been in slavery to the nation of Egypt. Hosea tried to warn the people about this coming judgment, but they refused to listen.

Place in the Canon:Historically, Hosea is a window into the final days of the northern kingdom. Theologically, it shows us how great and loving and merciful God is and how sinful we are. Devotionally, Hosea prompts us to respond to God with humility and obedience.
