LAUREUS’ APPROACH TO PARTNERSHIP
LAUREUS’ APPROACH TO PARTNERSHIP
A successful Laureus World Sports Awards depends on the strength and depth of the relationship with the Host Partner.
The aim of these guidelines is to assist in the development of a partnership that goes beyond simply delivering the Host Partner’s rights and maximises its benefit for both parties. Laureus will work to create a product that exceeds the Host Partner’s expectations and is tailored to fulfil their own unique objectives.
As well as explaining the make-up and history of the organisation, this document outlines the various areas of benefit to be gained through partnership with Laureus and sets out the rights and benefits of the Host Partner in relation to each component part of the property.

ABOUT LAUREUS
ABOUT LAUREUS
The guiding principle of Laureus is to effect social change through sport. Laureus is
comprised of three core elements:
1. The Laureus World Sports Awards referred to as ‘the Awards’
2. The Laureus World Sports Academy referred to as ‘the Academy’
3. The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation referred to as ‘the Foundation’
Collectively, they honour the extraordinary achievements of athletes, past and present,
and support the most vulnerable communities by harnessing the power of sport to
promote social change.
The Awards is recognised as the
premier honours event in the
international sporting calendar, each
year acknowledging the greatest
achievements in sport. It supports the
guiding principle of Laureus by raising
funds and bringing the organisation to
the world’s attention.
The Academy is a unique association
of 46 of the greatest living sporting
legends, who volunteer their time to
the Foundation and, as the ultimate
sports jury, vote each year to decide the
winners of the Awards. All the members
of the Academy share a belief in the
power of sport to break down barriers,
bring people together and improve the
lives of young people around the world.
The Foundation uses the power of sport
to help tackle pressing social challenges
through a worldwide programme of
sports-related community development
initiatives funded and supported by
itself and its partners.
THE LAUREUS ORGANISATION
Laureus was founded in 2000 by
Richemont and Daimler. Laureus has
been funded and supported by its
Global Partners Mercedes-Benz (since
2000) and IWC Schaffhausen (since
2004).
The Laureus organisation is based in
London and is made up of Laureus
World Sports Awards Limited (‘Laureus
Limited’) and the Laureus Sport for
Good Foundation. Laureus World
Sports Awards Limited is a 50/50 joint
venture between its Founding Patrons
Richemont and Daimler. It is responsible
for organising the Laureus World Sports
Awards and for marketing the Laureus
brand internationally. Laureus Limited
is a private company, not a charity, but
all of its profits are distributed to the
Foundation.
The Foundation is a charity limited by
guarantee and is registered under UK
charity law (No. 1111364). It is responsible
for running the global operations of the
Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.
HOW LAUREUS IS FUNDED
The Awards is owned and operated by
Laureus Limited and funded entirely
through sponsorship from the Global
Partners and the hosting rights fee
from the Host Partner. All annual
profits of this commercial enterprise
are distributed to the Foundation to
invest in sports-related community
programmes around the world.
The Foundation is funded partly
by Laureus Limited and the Global
Partners, and partly by other donations
from individuals and corporations. This
funding is supplemented on a local basis
for National Foundations by ‘Country
Patrons’ (the title given to sponsors of
National Foundations) and from other
corporate and individual donations.
The Academy Members give all of
their time and their endorsement of
the Awards and the Foundation as
volunteers, free of charge.
In addition, the Foundation holds a
number of fundraising initiatives at the
Awards and throughout the year to raise
additional funding from companies and
private individuals.
This fundraising takes the form of
sports-themed days hosted by Members
of the Academy, gala dinners hosted
by Members of the Academy and other
initiatives.
LAUREUS’ SPONSORSHIP STRUCTURE
Laureus has a simple sponsorship
structure that aims to maximise value
and minimise clutter for the sponsors at
all levels.
Laureus is supported by sponsors at
various levels who enjoy rights to the
Foundation, the Academy and the
Awards as is shown in Table 1 above.
GLOBAL PARTNERS
The Global Partners are the year-round
partners of Laureus and, as such,
uniquely enjoy rights across all three
component parts of Laureus. Laureus
currently has two Global Partners with
equal rights to Laureus: Mercedes-Benz
and IWC Schaffhausen.
HOST PARTNER
Host Partners typically enjoy a package
of global rights that relate exclusively
to the Awards and the Academy.
Rights relating to the Foundation are
available on a national level. The Host
Partner is responsible for providing key
operational support to the Awards.
Host Partner rights are outlined
throughout this document and a
detailed summary is provided in
Appendix 1.
LAUREUS’ NATIONAL FOUNDATION COUNTRY PATRON
All National Foundations are entitled
to create partnerships with a Country
Patron, whereby any associated
partnership rights are restricted to the
territory in which it operates.
Country Patrons are not granted
category exclusivity in relation to
the Global Partners of Laureus and
conversely the Global Partners will
receive category exclusivity with
regards to Country Patrons of National
Foundations. The Global Partners of
Laureus are recognised at all times both
at a global and a local level.
OFFICIAL SUPPLIER
Laureus also enters into official supplier
deals with companies in relation to
significant areas of expenditure such
as flights and hotel accommodation,
insurance, merchandise, food and
beverage, computers and office
equipment.

THE LAUREUS WORLD SPORTS AWARDS
ABOUT THE LAUREUS WORLD SPORTS AWARDS
Typically held in the spring of each year,
Laureus celebrates athletic achievement
on a global scale. There are awards
in various categories such as Laureus
World Sportsman of the Year,
Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year,
Laureus World Team of the Year
and Laureus World Sportsperson of
the Year with a Disability.
Over the years, the Awards has
honoured some of the biggest names
in sport including Usain Bolt, Novak
Djokovic, Roger Federer and Michael
Schumacher (winners of the World
Sportsman of the Year), Jessica Ennis,
Kelly Holmes, Annika Sorenstam
and Serena Williams (winners of the
World Sportswoman of the Year) and
Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton, Yao
Ming and Lindsey Vonn (winners of the
World Breakthrough of the Year). In
2013 the Laureus Academy honoured
Michael Phelps with a special award to
mark his exceptional achievement in
Olympic Games. A full list of the awards
categories and the winners is included in
Appendix 3.
In addition to the sports celebrities
attending as Award winners and
nominees and the Academy Members
who judge them, the Awards is attended
by a rare mix of some of the world’s
best-known celebrities such as Morgan
Freeman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kevin
Spacey, Michael Douglas and Catherine
Zeta Jones as well as dignitaries such
as HSH Prince Albert II and HRH Juan
Carlos, his majesty The King of Spain,
and leaders of sports businesses and
federations such as Bernie Ecclestone
and Sepp Blatter.
THE AWARDS TELEVISION SHOW
The show is broadcast in over 100
countries and territories and seen by
over 245 million people each year,
making it the most highly viewed and
widely distributed Awards ceremony
after the Oscars.
The television show is broadcast in a
number of formats from live, delayed live
and highlights programming.
The 2013 show was aired as a live
broadcast in over 40 countries around
the world. Post-produced versions of the
show and Awards news programming
(distributed via Laureus platforms and
via Reuters) feature on leading channels
worldwide.
HOW DO THE AWARDS WORK?
There is a two-part voting process to
find the winners of the Awards.
Firstly, a Selection Panel of the world’s
leading sports editors, writers and
broadcasters votes to create a shortlist
of six nominations in each category. In
2013, a Selection Panel of more than
2,000 of the world’s leading sports
journalists and broadcasters voted
in the nomination process, which is
monitored by independent auditors
PricewaterhouseCoopers.
The members of the Academy then vote
by secret ballot to select the Award
winners.
There are five categories voted for by
the Selection Panel:
Laureus World Sportsman of the Year
Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year
Laureus World Team of the Year
Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year
Laureus World Comeback of the Year
Two categories are voted for by
Specialist Panels:
Laureus World Action Sportsperson
of the Year, chosen by a panel of the
world’s leading action sports journalists
Laureus World Sportsperson of the
Year with a Disability, which is overseen
by the Executive Committee of the
International Paralympic Committee
Other honours are awarded at the
discretion of the Academy to people
who have made an outstanding
contribution to society through sport.
Among these are:
Laureus Lifetime Achievement Award
Laureus Sport for Good Award
Laureus Spirit of Sport Award
Each winner receives a Laureus
statuette. The universal nature of sport is
celebrated by the representation of the
five continents, which are engraved on
the base. The statuettes are 30 cm high
and weigh 2.5 kg. Each figure contains
670 g of solid silver with a 650 g gold
finish base.
The Laureus World Sports Awards (‘the Awards’) is the premier global sports awards honouring the greatest sportsmen and women across all sports each year.
“It’s one of the most modern cities in the world. I should come to visit more in the future.”

SPORT FOR GOOD
THE LAUREUS WORLD SPORTS AWARDS
LAUREUS: HOST PARTNERS
The Host Partner plays a central role in
the Awards. The Awards are hosted
in some of the world’s most prestigious
locations and the Host Partner sets the
tone and the backdrop for the Awards.
The first Laureus World Sports Awards
was held in Monaco in 2000.
Since then, the Awards has become a
major event in the sporting calendar
taking place in:
MONACO 2000 – 2003
LISBON 2004 – 2005
BARCELONA 2006 – 2007
ST PETERSBURG 2008
ABU DHABI 2010 – 2011
LONDON 2012
RIO DE JANEIRO 2013
Host Partners are typically rotated every
two years and selected no later than two
months prior to the Awards.
AWARDS SCHEDULE
In addition to the main Awards
Ceremony, there are a number of
subsidiary events designed to provide
extra hospitality opportunities,
showcase local venues and provide the
Host Partner with Local Sponsorship
opportunities. Previous subsidiary
events include driving experiences at
F1 tracks, golf days, yachting regattas,
tennis exhibitions, a charity football
match and Laureus Sport for Good
project visits. The schedule and format
of the subsidiary events will be a joint
decision between the Host Partner
and Laureus.
The Host Partner enjoys rights in relation
to all Laureus events.
EVENT SCHEDULE
THE LAUREUS WORLD SPORT AWARDS: RIGHTS AND BENEFITS
This section sets out the Host Partner’s
Rights at the Awards and how Laureus
manages them.
HOSPITALITY AT THE AWARDS
The Host Partner is entitled to 60
hospitality places at the Laureus Awards
and the subsidiary events.
Although Laureus handles the overall
invitation process, the Host Partner is
responsible for the central management
of its local guests – in particular, the
allocation, and distribution of invitations
and guest packs. It is expected that
guests of the Host Partner will live
locally and arrange their own transport
to the Awards. However, Laureus will
organise accommodation and transport
for a limited number of local guests, to
be agreed between both parties.
LAUREUS AWARDS TELEVISION SHOW
The Host Partner is guaranteed at least
1.5 minutes of exposure in the Laureus
Awards Television Show. The show is
broadcast in over 100 countries and
territories and seen by over 245 million
people each year, providing significant
positive media value to the Partner in
front of a global audience. In addition,
the Host Partner is entitled to purchase
additional commercial opportunities
(where available to Laureus), for
example, associated advertising or
broadcast sponsorship packages in
key territories.
PR AND COMMUNICATIONS
Laureus has an in-house
Communications Team, dedicated to
ensuring that the Host Partner receives
maximum PR value from the Awards.
Laureus will work closely with the
Host Partner to develop a strategy
that delivers on the Host Partner’s
key communications objectives. The
Host Partner and/or their local agency
will be able to meet with the Laureus
Communications Manager on a regular
basis leading up the Awards.
Laureus supports the Host Partner in
creating its own communications and
marketing materials, subject to approval
by Laureus. Likewise, the Host Partner
has the right of approval over any
Laureus communications which include
Host Partner content.
HOST PARTNER USE OF THE LAUREUS MARKS
The Host Partner is entitled to use the
Laureus Marks in its marketing activity
for the duration of the contract. Usage
of the Laureus Marks is subject to the
Host Partner Rights (see Appendix 1) as
well as the Laureus Brand Guidelines,
which will be provided at the beginning
of the partnership.
LOCAL SPONSORSHIP
The Host Partner is entitled to sell
rights packages to local sponsors (see
Appendix 1b). These packages may
consist of hospitality opportunities
around the Awards and associated
events, media rights in the host territory
only and branding space at subsidiary
events. The Host Partner is not entitled
to pass through any of the global rights
it receives from the partnership.
Local Sponsor packages are created
with the consultation and approval of
Laureus.

SPORT FOR GOOD
THE LAUREUS WORLD SPORTS AWARDS
BRANDING AT THE AWARDS
The Host Partner Mark is prominently
displayed at the Awards on all major
Laureus signage, branding (where
space permits) and Laureus printed
materials, including Awards publications,
stationery and on the Laureus website
(www.laureus.com). Inclusion in these
materials will be subject to Laureus’
Global Brand Guidelines. The guidelines
uphold a policy of ‘parity’ for the Host
Partner and all the Global Partners
when appearing next to each other on
Laureus’ brand platforms. This parity
has to date ensured equal status for the
Host Partner and the Global Partners
by positioning branding in one of three
colour ways:
Laureus Pantone 539, reversed white
or mono black. The parity principle
does not apply when the Host Partner
positions the Laureus Marks next to its
own Mark (e.g. in a composite logo) for
use in Host Partner promotional activity
or where the Host Partner is the only
commercial partner involved.
These rights are set out in more detail in
the Host Partner Rights (see Appendix 1)
and in the Laureus Brand Guidelines.
All branding and signage at the Awards
is managed by the Laureus Brand Team,
which has final approval on the location
and creative execution.
Appropriate branding sites are selected
by the Brand Team following a detailed
reconnaissance of the Awards site. These
sites will be communicated to the Host
Partner at Awards planning meetings.
The Host Partner has the right of
approval over all creative executions of
Awards print materials and branding
that include the Host Partner Mark.
A sample of Host Partner branding at
the Awards is included in Appendix 7.
The Host Partner should advise Laureus
of any additional branding activity
planned around the Awards.
PRODUCT PLACEMENT AT THE LAUREUS AWARDS
The Host Partner is entitled to include
a premium in the guests’ welcome
packs. Details of the maximum size and
weight of the premium will be discussed
at meetings of the Local Organising
Committee, and it is assumed that the
premium will not conflict with existing
product categories of Laureus and/or
the Global Partners.
The Global Partners are entitled to
product placement at the Awards in sites
of approximately equal prominence.
Product placement is carefully managed
by the Laureus Brand Team in order
to strike a balance between Laureus’
desire to provide its Partners with
opportunities for brand and product
exposure whilst protecting the editorial
integrity of the Awards television show
and guarding against the perception of
over-commercialisation.
For this reason, the Laureus Brand Team
has final say on the location and creative
execution of all product placements.
USE OF LAUREUS IMAGERY IN HOST PARTNER PROMOTIONS
Laureus manages all still and moving
image photography, capturing key
moments throughout the year including
the Laureus Awards and Laureus
Foundation activity.
A selection of images for use in Host
Partner communications programmes
is made available through the Laureus
online image library powered by Getty
Images – www.laureusarchive.com – and
in the form of an annual Photographic
Compilation CD, which is sent to the
Host Partner within two months of each
Laureus Awards.
In relation to moving imagery, the Host
Partner is sent the Laureus Awards
Highlights DVD within two months of
each Laureus Awards with all of the
highlights of the show. This DVD also
includes highlights of previous Laureus
Foundation project visits.
If the Host Partner would like to use
moving images from the Awards
Highlights DVD, a written request
detailing the type of footage and
its intended use should be sent to
Laureus for approval. If still images
from the online library or photographic
compilation are required, the Host
Partner should send reference numbers
of the images and their intended use.
Approval should be granted within ten
working days.
Stricter rules apply in relation to the
way in which the Host Partner can use
the imagery of Academy Members and
other celebrities attending Laureus
events and projects throughout the year.
ORGANISATIONAL & OPERATIONAL SUPPORT
As part of the Host Partner deal,
Laureus requires provision of support
in the following areas (a more detailed
summary is provided in Appendix 2):

GLOBAL MEDIA COVERAGE
THE LAUREUS WORLD SPORTS AWARDS
Laureus has a year-round television
presence across the globe. The flagship
‘Laureus World Sports Awards’ provides
the annual highlight (and provides the
vast majority of television news content).
TELEVISION SHOW
The Laureus World Sports Awards TV
show is available as a live, delayed live or
post-produced programme.
Beyond the Awards programme itself,
the Awards event provides Laureus with
its largest media hit of the year, with over
500 accredited media covering the event
and delivering Host Cities and Partners
with valuable global exposure.
The 2013 show was aired as a live
broadcast in over 40 countries around
the world. Post-produced versions of the
show and Awards news programming
(distributed via Laureus platforms and
via Reuters) feature on leading channels
worldwide.
In addition to the Awards, there are a
number of further platforms from which
Laureus extracts significant media
exposure for the Global Partners.
MEDIA CENTRE
This is traditionally set up in close
proximity to the Awards venue. The
media centre forms the hub of all media
activity around the Awards, with press
conference rooms, interview areas
and working facilities for around 150
international journalists.
RED CARPET
The dramatic red carpet, which features
photographers and cameramen lining the
pens and reporters conducting interviews,
provides the basis for the Awards night
coverage and headline pictures.
SUBSIDIARY EVENTS
In addition to the Awards ceremony,
Laureus offers additional media
platforms at subsidiary events.
Past years have seen the Laureus
Football Challenge presented by IWC
Schaffhausen including current and
former international footballers such
as Patrick Vieira and Edgar Davids,
engaging over 100 print and broadcast
media, and the Laureus Golf Challenge
presented by Mercedes-Benz hosted by
Laureus Academy Member Gary Player.
SPIRIT OF SPORT
Since 2010, Laureus has produced a
stand-alone half-hour TV magazine
show each month. Each episode consists
of five or six credible sports-related
stories – each with a Laureus connection.
Ranging from profiles with top
contemporary sportsmen and women,
to reviews of major sporting events,
coverage of partner-sponsored sporting
events and news on Laureus and the
Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, the
programme is diverse entertainment.
Spirit of Sport has an excellent global
distribution, through a number of
broadcast partners including Supersport
(Pan-Africa), Universal Sports (North
America), NTV (Turkey), Dubai Sports
(Pan-Middle East & North Africa), Globo
(Brazil), Trace (France) and Star Sports
(Pan-Asia), delivering audiences in
excess of 20 million each month.
THE WORK OF THE ACADEMY AND THE FOUNDATION
Throughout the year, the Laureus
Sport for Good Foundation is joined
by members of the Academy in visiting
supported projects across the globe,
providing a unique platform to engage
international and local media.

1. The Academy Members endorse,
participate in and vote for the
winners of the Awards
2. Academy Members volunteer their
time to the Laureus Sport for Good
Foundation as guardians, goodwill
ambassadors and, in some instances,
trustees of National Foundations to
raise the profile of the Foundation
and raise funds for the Foundation
RIGHTS IN RELATION TO THE ACADEMY
The Academy is made up of some of
the world’s most famous sportsmen
and women who volunteer their time to
support the Laureus organisation. It is an
extremely important and valuable part
of the Laureus organisation.
The rules of engagement with the
Academy (set out below) must be
strictly adhered to. All requests by the
Host Partner for Academy time will
be passed through the Host Partner
Manager in the first instance and
the proposal will be subject to the
contracted consents and approvals
process. The Academy office will finalise
approvals with the Academy Member.
ENTITLEMENT FOR HOST PARTNER
All Academy Members are invited to
attend the Awards. The majority of
Members will aim to arrive in the city
two days before the Awards, with the
intention of attending subsidiary events
and fulfilling media commitments before
the Awards ceremony itself.
As part of their rights and benefits, the
Host Partner is guaranteed a number
of appearances or ‘units’ of time at the
Awards and any subsidiary events.
The entitlement rights are as follows:
Guarantee of 20 Academy Member
appearances at the Awards ceremony
The appearance at a single subsidiary
event (Foundation visit on behalf of
a sponsor, press call, fundraiser) will
constitute one ‘unit’ of time
A unit shall be no longer than two
hours, excluding travel time (except
in the event that travel time is greater
than one hour when it will be at the
discretion of the Academy Member to
treat such time as an additional unit)
The Host Partner is entitled to 20 units
of time at subsidiary events with no
rights to carry over unused units to the
following year
IAN BOTHAM, STEVE WAUGH, MICHAEL VAUGHAN, SHAUN POLLOCK AND KAPIL DEV AT THE CRICKET PRESS CONFERENCE, ABU DHABI 2010
Reasonable efforts will, however, be
made to meet requests for specific
members of the Academy
Any requests for Academy Member
time should be made by the Host
Partner a minimum of two weeks
prior and, if asking to try to arrange a
specific Academy Member, at least one
month in advance
Laureus will be responsible for all
Academy Member travel and
accommodation costs in relation to
an appearance
ACADEMY ENDORSEMENTS, PROMOTION AND ADVERTISING
Subject strictly to the rules set out in
this section, the Host Partner is allowed
to take its own film and photography of
Academy Members at the Awards and
subsidiary events for use in advertising.
Any use by the Host Partner of the
Academy Members’ imagery is subject to
the following general conditions.
1. The context of any such promotional
use and/or advertising must always
relate to the role of the Academy
Member in relation to the Host Partner
and the Awards. Academy Members
and celebrities attending the Awards
and Foundation project visits do
consent to the use of their images
but only where such usage is strictly
contextual and is not used to create an
implied endorsement by those sports
people with any brand using
the imagery
2. The Academy Members will not under
any circumstance endorse specific
products or brands, or be placed in a
position where they are seen to do so
3. The Host Partner will not use Academy
Members’ likeness and/or image in
brand or product advertising
4. Images of the Academy Members may
only be used in isolation where activity
is in the context of their association
with the Foundation. For all other
use, communications material must
depict a minimum of three Academy
Members in each usage whereby the
communication is clearly supporting an
association with Laureus
The Host Partner must submit to Laureus
for approval a proposal setting out
the intended promotional use and/or
advertising no later than two months
before the proposed activity.
ACADEMY FORUM
In addition to the Awards package, the
Host Partner has the opportunity to
host an Academy Forum. The Academy
Forum provides an opportunity for
countries to engage with Laureus and
the Academy on a smaller scale than the
Awards and often will be hosted as a
precursor to the Awards.
The Academy Forum is a dynamic
and integrated platform for Academy
Members to engage and debate
a number of issues relating to the
Academy, the Awards, the Foundation
and sport in general. As part of the
Forum, Academy Members will spend
up to a week in the Host Partner city
taking part in sports summits, media
opportunities, exclusive dinners and visits
to local projects.
This is a unique opportunity to showcase
the region and local venues alongside
the world’s greatest sporting legends,
through high-profile sports discussions,
focused media events and local
Foundation activities.
The rights to host an Academy Forum can
be considered as part of the overall Awards
contract or as a separate package.

THE LAUREUS SPORT FOR GOOD FOUNDATION
The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation (‘the Foundation’) is a charitable company
registered with the UK Charity Commission and governed by its Board of Trustees.
The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation believes sport can change the world for the better.
Making this belief a reality, the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation offers sports projects
across the world invaluable support in four forms: funding, training in the use of sport as a
force for good, support with social impact monitoring and access to a global network of
Sport for Good programmes that share knowledge with one another all year round. This
helps boost the impact of all the programmes that Laureus supports, ensuring that young
people the world over can access the full transformational power of sport. Currently the
Foundation supports over 140 projects worldwide across six continents in 34 countries.
The Academy Members are actively involved in many of these projects providing
support and raising awareness by showing how the power of sport can help tackle social
challenges. A full list of the Foundation projects are included in Appendix 5.
HOW THE FOUNDATION WORKS
The Foundation is divided into two parts:
the Global Foundation, which runs the
Laureus Sport for Good Foundation
from its headquarters in London, and
the eight National Foundations (see
Appendix 5), which manage the projects
that the Foundation funds at a local level.
The Global Foundation provides the
central management and coordination
for Laureus’ National Foundations
– providing the link between the
Academy and the Awards to maximise
the benefit of all Laureus’ activities for
the Foundation. The Global Foundation
currently raises and distributes funds
to National Foundations, which are
in turn responsible for raising funds
and supporting projects in their own
territory.
The Foundation supports community-
based organisations that bring about
positive social change through sport.
These organisations are supported
and not owned by Laureus, and as
such Laureus has no right to enforce
any brand legislation on them. Laureus
protects its Global Partners and in
turn requests that the Global Partners
respect the charities it supports and
their right to independent revenues.
RIGHTS AND BENEFITS IN RELATION TO THE FOUNDATION
Laureus aims to ensure that the Host
Partner enjoys a significant and credible
legacy following the Awards. This may
be achieved in the following ways:
Laureus would work with the Host
Partner to create a new project or
partner an existing project in the region
There would be an opportunity to
create a Laureus National Foundation
in the region
Laureus will work with the Host
Partner on other sport-based
initiatives relevant to the Partner’s
long-term social objectives
Laureus is able to bring a wealth of
experience in the management and set-
up of social initiatives, including:
Trustees drawn from regional leaders
and top athletes can oversee the
Foundation
Administrators to run the Foundation’s
activities throughout the region
Organisation and coordination of
fundraising activities
Awareness and PR campaigns on
Foundation’s activities
Visits by top international athletes to
the region
FOUNDATION PROJECT VISITS
During the Awards, Members of the
Academy may visit any new or existing
local projects that have been set up.
The Host Partner is requested to advise
Laureus of preferred projects and timing
for visits.
Project visits will be co-ordinated and
managed by the Local Organising
Committee and the Laureus Sport for
Good Foundation Team with all costs
(including insurance) covered by the Host
Partner. The Host Partner is responsible
for creating and managing a programme
of events during the project visits to
ensure that the project attendees and
the projects themselves derive maximum
benefit from these visits.
Laureus conducts project visits to fulfil a
number of objectives:
To raise the profile of the Host Partner
and Laureus activities with a view to
increasing awareness and funding of
the projects
To engage the Academy and motivate
project participants
To promote the power of sport
through the world’s media by
highlighting the plight of the people in
the projects and the impact of sport in
tackling their issues
PROTECTION FROM OVER-COMMERCIALISM
To maintain the credibility and integrity
of the Foundation, it is important that
projects are not over-commercialised.
If brands are seen to be inappropriately
exploiting the Foundation projects
for commercial gain it could seriously
compromise the organisation’s
reputation.
In order to protect against this Laureus
will ensure that:
Foundation projects are to be strictly
maintained as brand-free zones
(except for Foundation/Global
Partner merchandise and interview
backdrop when appropriate i.e. press
conferences, media activities, etc as
set out in the Global Brand Guidelines)
No branding/product placement
will be allowed on children or other
recipients of project funding
Academy Members are invited to
wear Laureus/Global Partner branding
at all times whilst on projects but to
otherwise be brand neutral

CONSENTS AND APPROVALS PROCESS
Laureus is committed to providing a written
answer to the Host Partner approving a

should also respect a similar time period
when sending requests to Laureus. All
approvals will be provided in writing.
In some cases, Laureus recognises that
the Host Partner will require approvals in a
shorter timeframe.
All reasonable endeavours will be made to
expedite the approvals process in the case
of urgent requests.

the Host Partner is kept up to date with
