Hot Knife Rope Cutter Safety Precautions Please read all instructions carefully before using the hot knife rope cutter. The hot knife rope cutter is intended for use on synthetic ropes which will melt on contact with the hot blade. It is not suitable for use with natural fibre ropes or steel cable ropes. By design the blade of the hot knife will get very hot during use and will remain hot for a period of time after use. Always allow sufficient time for the blade to cool down after use and keep the blade away from flammable materials. Never touch the blade while it is hot. The use of heat insulating gloves is recommended but is not required. The hot knife should be used in a well-ventilated environment. Some level of smoke is to be expected during cutting. Always ensure that the hot knife is unplugged from the power socket when removing or installing the cutting blade. Do not use if the power cable or the plug are damaged. Do not use two rope cutters simultaneously as any contact between two blades could cause a short circuit. Do not use the hot knife rope cutter on a wet rope or in the presence of water. Only use the tools and accessories supplied with the hot knife rope cutter. Getting to know the rope cutter

• A – cutting blade

• B – blade apron

• C – temperature control dial

• D – cutting machine

• E – trigger switch

• F – power cable

• G - plug

Installing the blade

• Ensure there is no power to the rope cutter and that it is unplugged from the power socket.

• Using the Allen key tool, turn the nuts on the blade apron anti-clockwise.

• Insert the two legs of the cutting blade into the blade apron.

• Using the Allen key tool, turn the nuts clockwise to hold the blade securely in place. Do not over tighten.

• The cutting blade must be securely in place or the blade will not heat up correctly.

• Test the installation by cutting a sample piece of synthetic rope following the instructions for proper use that follow.

Proper use of your hot knife rope cutter

• Place a piece of synthetic rope (preferably waste material / test sample on first use) on a wooden block or other suitable

cutting surface.

• Please note that the blade is expected to scratch and damage the wooden block/cutting surface so choose your surface

carefully.

• Adjust the temperature control wheel to the middle position.

• Place the blade on the synthetic rope.

• Press and hold the trigger switch to heat the blade.

• Gently push the blade down and in a back and forth motion cut through the rope.

• If the temperature is insufficient rotate the temperature dial towards you (and away from the blade). The maximum

temperature setting is 8, and the minimum is 1. You will notice the red indicator light shine brighter the higher the

temperature setting.

• Avoid the blade burning red hot, ideally do not hold the trigger switch at max power for longer than 15 seconds.

• For larger ropes it may be necessary to cut the rope in stages, releasing the trigger switch and allowing the rope cutter and

blade to cool before starting again. This will help extend the life of the machine.

• Do not apply excessive force when cutting or the blade may become warped.
