La Gomera

La Gomera & Tenerife

For centuries, erosion and volcanic activity have sculpted La Gomera’s spectacular landscape of deep ravines, fertile valleys and cliffs, resulting in the beautifully unspoilt island that it is today.

Situated in the western part of the Canary Islands, and only 47 kilometres from Tenerife, this idyllic paradise boasts an average annual temperature of 23˚C enabling you to enjoy your stay all year round. The hottest month is August and the coolest, February. From the north, the ‘alisios’ winds absorb the humidity from the sea and deposit it in the high mountain regions, causing the so-called “horizontal rain” which nourishes the laurisilva forests.

The island has something special to offer all its visitors; whether you are looking to take advantage of the spectacular trekking, mountain-biking, deep-sea fishing, diving, sailing… or just want some simple rest and relaxation. Discover an island full of contrasts; from its laurisilva forests, to its vast palm groves and impressive ravines and cliffs overlooking the sea. A network of footpaths cover the whole island and let you explore its most extraordinary spots, particularly the Garajonay National Park.

Garajonay National Park

Home to one of the oldest forests in Europe, the Garajonay National Park is a 3.984 hectare area of hills and valleys located in the centre of the island. Named after the island’s highest peak ‘Garajonay’, the park was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986 and its network of trails throughout dense vegetation and ancient forest is perfect for walking and hiking.

For animal and bird lovers too, the forest is a delight, with approximately 1000 invertebrates, and remarkable species including laurel pigeons.

Did you know?

La Gomera is known as the ‘Columbian Island’ as Christopher Columbus stopped here for supplies & provisions on his way to the New World.

Fred. and the Canary Islands

The relationship between the Olsens and the Canary Isles dates back to 1904. The Olsen family had owned land on the isolated Canary island of La Gomera since before the first World War and it was Thomas Fredrik Olsen who established a small agricultural centre in the south of La Gomera - prompting a sea route based on tomato and banana exports to Europe from their own plantations.

The family is responsible for the creation of over 1000 jobs throughout the Canary Islands and its inter-island ferry service, the Fred. Olsen Express, is credited with completely transforming the island’s economy and bringing the people closer together than ever before in their history.

South in this paradise, hidden among beautiful and magical gardens, crowning the quiet town of Playa Santiago, you will find a true Eden, Hotel Jardín Tecina.“ ”

Tecina Golf

Designed by one of the UK’s most renowned golf course architects, Donald Steel, the Tecina Golf is world class - a true piece of art made for player’s enjoyment. Providing an ideal, versatile and comfortable way to play for beginners and advanced golfers alike, the Tecina Golf is a 6,340 metre long, par 71 (18 holes) course overlooking the sea.

Playing a few rounds of golf is a great way to spend your holiday in the Canary Islands. The Tecina golf course offers a spectacularly beautiful panorama spanning the Gomeran landscape and over the Atlantic Ocean to Mount Tiede, on neighbouring Tenerife.

Page 11: Hotel Jardin Tecina Brochure

11

One of the top ten golf courses in Spain, La Gomera’s semitropical climate enables golf to be played throughout the year; and to offer the best possible conditions, sand was imported from Africa to cover the fairways, greens and tees.

Unique in so many ways, Tecina Golf’s most notable feature is that it plays, rather like a ski run, downwards along a dramatically sloping hillside with a 175m elevation change from top to bottom; providing the golfer with an almost continuously downhill golfing experience. This means that spectacular sea views are available on every hole, a claim that not many other courses around the world can match!

A short walk from Hotel Jardín Tecina, the course also provides storage facilities for clubs and equipment, green fees reservations and golf classes with professionals can also be booked separately.

If you would like for us to arrange a golf holiday to the Hotel Jardín Tecina & Golf, complete with flights, transfers and ferry crossing, please ask.
