From the President Springtime has been a busy time. In March I attended the SHVL
Conference in Williamsburg. There were 10 of the SCAHA
board members in attendance. It was an outstanding conference
and a fun place to meet. An important bylaws change was made
by the SHVL membership; the name has been changed to
“Society of Healthcare Volunteer Leaders”, replacing the word
Southeastern. The reasoning behind this is to ensure healthcare
volunteer leaders from other states that they are not only wel-
come but encouraged to participate in SHVL. Next year’s Con-
ference will be in Lexington, KY, April 8-10, 2018.
All three district spring meetings were held in April. Coastal was
hosted by McLeod Medical Center Auxiliary at Dillon on April
6; Piedmont was hosted by Laurens County Memorial Hospital
Auxiliary at Laurens on April 11; and Midlands by Palmetto
Health Baptist Parkridge Hospital Auxiliary at Columbia on
April 19. The meetings were well attended, and each program
had great presentations. Thanks to the three local auxiliaries and
the SCAHA district chairs and co-chairs that helped in the plan-
ning and implementation of the meetings.
At the Coastal meeting, we were pleased to announce that we
now have a Co-Chair for that district. Welcome to Patti McInnis,
a member of the McLeod Medical Center Dillon Auxiliary, for
agreeing to serve on the board. We look forward to having her
on the board.
Have a great summer, and I’ll be back in touch again in August via the Hotline.

Midlands District Spring Meeting Wednesday, April 19, 2017
The Parkridge Hospital Auxiliary may be young (just 3 years old this past March), but they did a fantastic job in hosting the Midlands District Spring Meeting in Co-lumbia on April 19, 2017. Carole Howell, auxiliary board members and auxiliary members volunteered many hours in planning and preparing the event which was held at Ashland United Meth-odist Church. They are to the congratu-lated on a job well done. Needless to say, the overall evaluation was EXCELLENT with the following com-ments:
Beginning our lovely spring day with a reminder that it is “time to refresh and reboot”, Stephanie John, a licensed marriage and family therapist from Pal-metto Health Coun-seling, helped us
find our balance and experience kindness with her presentation, fun and games. Participating in games afforded us the op-portunity to mingle with many other volun-teers we don’t see very often.
Tammie Epps. a media relations manager at Pal-metto Health and a Zumba teacher, got us rebooting and moving with her stretching exercises. After a delicious lunch which was enjoyed by the 55 attendees, Beth Greer,
a native South Carolinian who grew up in Brazil and ministers under the umbrella of Life and Godliness Ministries, present-ed a lovely selection of hymns which will help us to bloom where we are planted. Carole Howell, Manager Volunteer Ser-vices at Parkridge, ended the very enter-taining day by commenting on Reseting Ourselves. Wonderful door prizes, includ-ing the lovely spring plants which decorat-ed the assembly hall, were awarded. Thank you again, Parkridge for being an excellent host! It was all meaningful. Appreciate all the hard work that
went into making this a huge suc-cess!”
Best seminar EVER. Great job! Just an all around great day! Thank you Midlands!

Piedmont District Meeting
Thursday, April 11, 2017
The Piedmont District Meeting held on April 11 was a very successful event. The number of registered members was 88 and
we had 72 that actually attended along with several special guests and presenters. We received back 51 evaluations and all were very positive. Our theme of ‘Touching Others thru Physical and Spiritual Wellbe-ing’ was well received. The topics of skin care, missions, hospice care, and keeping humor in our daily life were enhanced by musical presentations Kipper Ackerman, harpist, and Phillip Dean, soloist. I want to give special thanks and appreciation to the Laurens County Auxiliary group for their talent and hard work in putting this meeting together. They did an outstand-ing job!

From the Editor The last couple of months have been very busy. This issue of the HotLine has pictures
from the three District Meetings in April, as well as pictures from
SHVL meeting in Wil-liamsburg, VA.
The SHVL was attended by many
volunteers, DVS, and Gift Shop Managers. There were many in-formative workshops we attend-ed, giving us ideas to imple-
ment at our various hospi-tals. Our first day there we had snow falling
in the morn-ing
and then clear-ing
late morning. No accumulation, but was fun watching the white flakes falling.
The next issue I will begin includ-ing the bio's of your SCAHA board members. Also,
Marje Warner has been giv-
ing a little his-tory of SCAHA in the Hot-Line.
Hope everyone has a great sum-mer and looking forward to seeing
everyone at the Fall Meeting.
