NORTH AMERICAN MISSION BOARD - 2019 Missionaries are grateful for all that you do to support and encourage

them. This week during your prayer time, please pray for Sam and

Joanna Choi.

COMMUNITY FOOD PANTRY The Community Food Pantry continues to give out bags every

Thursday with nutritious staples to individuals and families who live in

Winn Parish. They accomplish this task through the work of volunteers

from all over our parish. They operate solely through gifts and

donations from churches, individuals, businesses, and clubs – without

any government funds. Along with food items, they now offer eggs

donated every week from a local business, school uniforms, Christian

books and devotionals, New Testaments, homemade jellies and jams,

an opportunity to pray with a minister, and enhanced choices on the

“Lagniappe” table. Thank you for keeping this local ministry alive.

A Note from Pastor Danny Keyes I have some inside information about our new pastor. This information did not come

from the search committee because that information is confidential at this point,

which is as it should be. I know this, OUR NEXT PASTOR IS A FISHERMAN.

Before all you avid fishermen get worked up about taking him to your favorite “hot

spots” and some others of you start imagining him spending too much time on the

water hear me out. I will be shocked and disappointed if he is not a fisherman in the

context of Matthew 4:19 when Jesus told Peter and Andrew “Follow me and I will

make you fishers of men”.

In a sermon I preached here a few years ago I talked about two distinct personalities

a church takes on. One is called “keepers of the aquarium”. That church spends

almost all its time and resources’ making sure the church is safe, comfortable, and

clean for its members. Clean the glass, change the water, feed the fish, check the

lighting, make sure all the fish are happy. The other kind of church is called “fishers

of men”. Most of the time and resources of this church are focused on those beyond

the walls of the church, those outside the “aquarium”. Unlike an aquarium where the

owner picks the kind of fish they want, this church trusts the leadership of Jesus

through the Holy Spirit to lead them to the “fish”. There are all kinds of good

fishing spots for our church. Our own families, neighbors, friends, coworkers, even

folks we don’t know, or some folks we wouldn’t like to spend much time with.

Some will have different interests, different backgrounds, different colors, and a lot

of other differences, but the one thing they will have in common with each of us is a

need for the grace of God through Jesus.

I’m convinced our new pastor will be a fisherman, and he will invite and challenge

us to go “fishing” with him. This is in fact, the calling and mission of the church and

all believers. Helping people find and follow Jesus is the basic task of any church.

Matthew 28:19 says “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the

name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit”. We might as well start

checking out our “fishing gear” and make sure it is all in good condition and maybe

even make some trips to the fishing hole even before Bro. Whoever shows up.

See you in church Sunday,

My Reflections of a Busy Weekend Why I love FBC Winnfield, our people. On 02/02/2020, you may have

noticed the over 80 youth attending worship, but you may not have saw the

months of preparation required by our youth committee to make it happen.

You may not have noticed that our members collected over 80 containers of

soup for hungry children in our community as part of the kids on mission

Souper Bowl of Caring. You may not have noticed that we launched two new

ministry opportunities to serve families. Our preteen and youth ministry

members have started volunteering as Extended Session assistants and will

serve one Sunday a quarter. We also began our Buddy Ministry to assist

special need students in attending Sunday School and Worship.

We are also excited to announce the launch of our Live Stream church service

that will allow you to be able to view our services from your phone tablet or

computer when you can’t be with us in

person. https://www.fbcwinn.com/live-stream/

Our church family is “Relentless” in their pursuit to reach our community

with the gospel. I’m so glad to be able to call them my church family. I hope

you will join us in person or via the live stream this week.
