RESIDENTIAL HOUSING AND MEAL INFORMATION

Need to be convinced that living on campus at Wichita State University is the best deal around? Take a look at everything we have to offer—chances are, you haven’t even seen choices like this since your last trip to your favorite buffet.

•Plus, when you live with us, there are no extra bills. •All rates include gas, water, electricity, local phone service, Ethernet and wireless, cable tv and food. •There are 19 all-you-can-eat meals served in the Fairmount Café each week (breakfast, lunch, and dinner during the school week and brunch and dinner on the weekends). If you miss a meal during the day you can replace it by eating at Late Night dining offered Sunday through Thursday.

- With a 19 meal plan you can eat all 19 meals served during the week. With a 15 meal plan you can eat 15 out of the 19 meals served … and so on. All meal plans include either $200 or $300 Shocker Dollars—a part of your meal plan that we have set aside for flexible spending.

2. Keep the yellow copy of the application/contract for your records.

3. Mail the completed white copy of the application contract along with the $75 application fee and $200 prepayment for Fairmount/Brennan or $75 application fee and $200 deposit for Wheatshocker to:

As soon as we receive all of your paperwork and payments, we’ll send you a confirmation. Room assignments will be sent out beginning June 1 then periodically throughout the summer; at that time you’ll also receive in-formation about your roommate as well as tips and guidelines for the big move.

Room and Board payments for Fairmount Towers and Brennan Halls are due twice during the academic year.

•One half of the above Academic Year Grand Total is due during class registration in August and one half of above Academic Year Grand Total is due during class registration in January. •Payment must be made no later than the day before classes begin.

•Payment must be made even if financial assistance is not available at the time payment is due. Stude who receive financial assistance must apply the money they receive toward tuition and fees first and then to room and board.

Defining the room. A double room is a room with a roommate and up to 2 suitemates (no more than 4 people sharing a bathroom).A single room is a room

with no roommate and up to 2 suitemates (no more than 3 people sharing a bathroom).A large room is a bit larger (see floor plans) than the standard room

for the building. Take a friend, mom, or dad to lunch! When you purchase a 19, 15, 10 or 5 board plan you get 10 free guest passes for the year.

Fairmount Towers

Fairmount Towers is the largest of the university’s residence halls, with the capacity to house up to 600 students. Composed of two high-rise living units and a central dining facility, it was constructed as a private dormitory around the time the institution became a state university in 1964.

Brennan Hall

Brennan Hall, a three-unit complex, was constructed as a men’s dormitory to accommodate the influx of students the University experienced following World War II. The north unit was occupied in 1953, followed by the middle and south units in 1962.

In the fall of 1994, WSU President Eugene Hughes proposed buying the apartments to “make a new building out of an old building.” With an invest-ment of about $11.6 million in revenue bonds, the university gutted the six-story, U-shaped building and replaced virtually everything. The first phase of renovation was completed by the fall 1996 se-mester. It is now a prime housing option for sopho-mores, married students and single-parent students with no more than two children.

The Process Applying to live on campus is a four-part process that involves submitting your housing application, receiving and returning/accepting your contract, selecting your housing preferences, and receiving your assignment. The date you apply for housing is the date used to determine your priority when offering contracts and when assigning housing, so applying earlier means that you have a better chance of getting one of your top preferences.

You must be admission complete before applying for housing. Admissions applications are deemed complete when all items listed as application requirements have arrived and been processed by the Office of Admissions. Recommended/suggested items do not affect completion. Items submitted electronically appear online in a couple of days; items submitted by mail can take two weeks or more to be processed and appear online.
